Opis:: Artykuł skupia się na studium przypadku dotyczącym osoby biograficznie doświadczającej życia w dwóch kulturach, tym samym ukształtowanej przez życie i wychowanie w dwóch państwach, w wyniku migracji rodziców z PRL-u do Stanów Zjednoczonych na początku lat 80. Analiza oscyluje tutaj pomiędzy próbą wpisania narracji rozmówcy w refleksyjność bliską koncepcji człowieka marginalnego a kwestią poszukiwania, definiowania, konstruowania i rekonstruowania przez narratora jego tożsamości. Tekst ma także na celu dostarczenie kolejnego wglądu w problematykę złożonej tożsamości migrantów.
The article is focused on the case study concerning the person biographically experiencing living in two cultures, in that process formed by living and bringing up in two countries, as a result of the migration of parents from the People’s Republic of Poland to the United States at the beginning of the 80s. The analysis oscillates here between an attempt to write down this narration into the reflectiveness close to the concept of marginal man and the issue of seeking, defining, constructing, and reconstructing the narrator’s identity. The text also aims to provide further insight into the complex issues migrants’ identity.

Opis:: The article concerns the users’ experiences of interacting with well-being chatbots. The text shows how chatbots can act as virtual companions and, to some extent, therapists for people in their daily reality. It also reflects on why individuals choose such a form of support for their well-being, concerning, among others, the stigmatization aspect of mental health problems. The article discusses and compares various dimensions of users’ interactions with three popular chatbots: Wysa, Woebot, and Replika. The text both refers to the results of research on the well-being chatbots and, analytically, engages in a dialogue with the results discussed in the form of sociological (and philosophical) reflection. The issues taken up in the paper include an in-depth reflection on the aspects of the relationship between humans and chatbots that allow users to establish an emotional bond with their virtual companions. In addition, the consideration addresses the issue of a user’s sense of alienation when interacting with a virtual companion, as well as the problem of anxieties and dilemmas people may experience therein. In the context of alienation, the article also attempts to conceptualize that theme concerning available conceptual resources.

Opis:: The article focuses on the case study of the life history of Weronika, a person biographically experiencing the consequences of the transformation process in Poland. On the one hand, the text concentrates on showing the change in the status of the narrator’s family from a privileged position in the socialist period to the experience of unemployment and poverty after 1989. On the other hand, the text analyzes the necessity of the narrator’s mother’s emigration to Italy in the mid-1990s. Thus, the article focuses on the narrator’s experience in the context of being a migrant woman’s child. This experience is related to the time of socialization and education, which was difficult for the narrator, and the consequence of which is shown in the text in connection to the narrator’s persistence in trajectory. The text also presents the perspective of transnational motherhood within the framework of Polish women’s migrations after 1989. Also, an important perspective adapted in the article is the experience of migration by the narrator, who at the time of the interview has also been living in Italy for 10 years. Permanent emigration of the narrator is associated in her life history with high biographical costs. The article is, therefore, an attempt to present migration as a source of suffering in relation to the context of being a migrant’s child and being a migrant oneself. The analysis of Weronika’s case is also an attempt to show the relationship between the individual experience of the narrator and the mechanisms of collective influence. Thus, the text treats the analyzed life history as one of the biographical accounts reflecting the biographical and social processes assigned to a specific time frame. In this perspective, the text aims to reconstruct the complexity of these processes and to interpret the experienced social reality in an individual biography.

Opis:: The article focuses on the analysis of the autobiographical narrative interview with Helga Kuske. Narrator, born in the post-war decade, in East Germany, experiences biographically the symbolic universe of the German Democratic Republic as well as the trajectory associated with the biographical difficulties of coping during the systemic transformation. Case study of Ms Kuske life story oscillates between an attempt to capture her biography in the context of the post-war history of East Germany and a study of her life history with reference to the concept of the symbolic universe of Berger and Luckmann. The text also aims to show the relationship between individual biographical experience and collective processes on the example of the impact of GDR mechanisms on the process of the controlling the life course of the GDR population.
Artykuł skupia się na analizie autobiograficznego wywiadu narracyjnego z Helgą Kuske. Narratorka, urodzona w powojennej dekadzie, w Niemczech Wschodnich, doświadcza biograficznie uniwersum symbolicznego Niemieckiej Republiki Demokratycznej, a także trajektorii związanej z trudnościami biograficznymi radzenia sobie w okresie transformacji systemowej. Analiza przypadku Pani Kuske oscyluje między próbą uchwycenia jej biografii w kontekście powojennej historii Niemiec Wschodnich a studium historii jej życia w odniesieniu do koncepcji uniwersum symbolicznego Bergera i Luckmanna. Tekst ma także na celu wskazanie zależności między jednostkowym doświadczeniem biograficznym a procesami kolektywnymi na przykładzie działania wschodnioniemieckich mechanizmów kontrolowania przebiegu życia mieszkańców NRD.

Opis:: The subject of the article concerns the issue of constructing and reconstructing national identity. The object of interest here is a sociological case study of Serbian national identity. It includes reconstruction and interpretation of in-depth interviews conducted in Serbia with the representatives of Serbian symbolic elites. The concept of symbolic elites is approached in the discussed research from Teun van Dijk’s perspective. Thus, they are individuals and groups directly involved in the production of public opinion, who have an impact on the content of publicly available knowledge, and the creation and legitimization of public discourse. The work is embedded in the methodological framework of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and is based on the assumptions of the Discourse‐Historical Approach (DHA). In this optics, the most important thing is the historical and social context of the studied process of the discursive construction of national identity. Therefore, the conclusions also touch upon the historical, political, and social perspective of the formation of Serbian national identity. The reflection also aims at presenting the analysis from the contemporary perspective (mainly in 2008-2020). Thus, paying attention to the political divisions in Serbia and the country’s road to democratization and European integration, the discussed research study shows the comprehensive specifics of the studied national identity.

Opis:: The aim of the paper is to share our reflections on the meaning, goals, and course of analytical workshops, which are treated by the authors not only in terms of methodological procedures, but also as a process of grounded theory building, where the phase of collective work is pivotal. We present the idea of workshops worked out within interpretative sociology and qualitative analysis and developed in different fields, yet we mainly focus on biographical research analysis. The knowledge and practice transfer between scholars in this respect is also one of the frames of our reasoning. The paper consists of several sections: firstly, we present a short overview of workshop practices in the field of biographical research referring mainly to students’ workshops; in the second part, we describe advantages of workshop practices for researchers and their possible outcomes; the third section describes examples of research and analysis of the same empirical material done by researchers representing different methodological approaches; finally, we finish with concluding remarks.
Celem artykułu jest refleksja na temat wartości pracy warsztatowej w metodzie biograficznej. Wspólna praca nad tekstem jest nie tylko elementem pracy analitycznej, ale powinna być uznana za jeden z niezbędnych kroków procedury analitycznej prowadzącej do refleksji teoretycznej. Artykuł składa się z następujących części: krótkiej prezentacji historii idei warsztatów analitycznych w polu badań biograficznych zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do pracy ze studentami; opisu korzyści charakterze edukacyjnym, analitycznym i teoretycznym, jakie płynąć mogą z pracy zespołowej; charakterystyki konkretnych przykładów warsztatowej pracy badawczej i jej rezultatów w formie tekstów pokazujących różne podejścia analityczne i teoretyczne.
