Opis:
The paper discusses the design and technology problems of planar, large-scale sonar arrays. It covers the fundamental operating parameters that bring the original array design to the requirements of an actual sonar system and briefly discusses state of the art technology issues. The main part of the paper includes a description of array design using PU elastomers in the volumetric filling version. This material is used both for the internal framework, the casing, sealing housing and the coupling layer. The author highlights the limitations and risks of using polyurethane to manufacture planar sonar arrays, especially those for deep water operation. Examples of designs and technological problems are given and discussed. They are the result of many years of experience gathered in the designing and testing of arrays made for the various sonar systems at the Department of Acoustics and Department of Polymers of the Technical University of Gdansk.

Opis:
There are a number of problems involved in measuring complex electrical impedance of ultrasonic transducers. This is because in the frequency function impedance tends to change values rapidly, in particular where resonances are involved. Measuring impedance using accurate bridge methods is a tedious and time-consuming process. While modern automated systems offer shorter test periods and high accuracy, they are very costly. This is why the project aims to implement new methods for computing impedance without these limitations. The article proposes a new, simplified method for measuring the electrical impedance of ultrasonic transducers. In the method complex impedance is calculated from results of two measurements of the transducer’s impedance magnitude only: with the known reactance and without it. To demonstrate the practicality of this method the authors included in the article the value of complex electrical impedance computed using the method and compared these with the results of measurements taken with an automated typical measurement system.

Opis:
This article describes a new echosounder model designed specifically for institutions responsible for the management of inland waterways, artificial and natural reservoirs, and marine coastal waters. The basic requirement related to the need of sounding shallow waters is measuring the smallest possible depths. Using separate transducers (sending and receiving) and attenuating them, and introducing a high dynamic range TVG circuit allowed the measurement of depths from 20cm at a maximum range of 100m. Water temperature is measured in order to include sound velocity corrections. The echosounder is manufactured using modern technology, with a PC 104 computer, robust FLASH memory emulating a hard disk, 8 inch color LCD panel, thermal printer with paper band for instant profile printouts, and a floppy disk drive for permanent storage. The echosounder interfaces to GPS.

Opis:
An important task of fishing gear designers is to develop effective selective fishing gears by optimizing its geometry. The high accuracy hydroacoustic system for codend geometry measurements was designed for developing the construction of cod codend for the Baltic fishery. The system consists of 10 pairs of hydrophones, measuring microprocessor device and notebook computer. The high frequency short pulse excitation combined with the matched digital filtering make it possible to obtain high resolution of measure data. Additionally the thermistors mounted in the hydrophones are used to calculate the local sound velocity and enable precision calibration of obtained measuring data. The construction solutions, the measuring procedure and examples of obtained data are presented below.
