Opis:
Tree saps are nourishing biological media commonly used for beverage and syrup production. Although the nutritional aspect of tree saps is widely acknowledged, the exact relationship between the sap composition, origin, and effect on the metabolic rate of human cells is still elusive. Thus, we collected saps from seven different tree species and conducted composition-activity analysis. Saps from trees of Betulaceae, but not from Salicaceae, Sapindaceae, nor Juglandaceae families, were increasing the metabolic rate of HepG2 cells, as measured using tetrazolium-based assay. Content of glucose, fructose, sucrose, chlorides, nitrates, sulphates, fumarates, malates, and succinates in sap samples varied across different tree species. Grade correspondence analysis clustered trees based on the saps’ chemical footprint indicating its usability in chemotaxonomy. Multiple regression modeling showed that glucose and fumarate present in saps from silver birch (Betula pendula Roth.), black alder (Alnus glutinosa Gaertn.), and European hornbeam (Carpinus betulus L.) are positively affecting the metabolic activity of HepG2 cells.

Opis:
New technology in the maritime sector often forces shipowners to assemble many new devices on their ship, which can increase the safety of sea travel. With each additional device on the navigation bridge, there are additional sets of data that need to be observed. The following article describes one of the possibilities of using augmented reality technology to support navigational decisions. The research used “smartglasses” technology and AR glasses from Meta Glasses.

Opis:
Every year, new vessels equipped with dynamic positioning (DP) systems are built in shipyards around the world. Due to the increasing number of offshore vessels, a client hiring a vessel should analyse the vessel's positioning capability charts to determine which water areas the vessel is designed for. These charts are represented as polar diagrams. In the centre of the chart is a shape symbolising the ship's body, and the values on the chart represent the maximum wind speed that can affect the ship at a given angle, at which the vessel will maintain its position. Vessel capability charts can also be used by the crew during thrusters failures to determine at what angle to the wind direction the vessel should stand to minimise the impact of wind forces. Analyses that determine a vessel's ability to keep position can be performed by classification societies or other companies with approval from classification societies. The article presents the concept of a pathfinding algorithm to determines the route of the ship’s passage with minimal energy consumption. The algorithm uses the information about environmental forces affecting the ship and information about thrust allocation obtained from Capability Plots.

Opis:
The mechanism and kinetics of O3 formation after an electron pulse have been studied in the Ar-O2 systems by time resolved optical measurements at gamma = 260 nm. The second order rate constant of energy transfer from excited Ar(4s,4p) states to O2 molecules: (1) Ar*,Ar** + O2 → O2* + Ar, was found to be (8.9 ± 2.1) x 10-10 cm3 s-1. It was found also the evidence of the third order process contribution to the energy transfer: (2) Ar*,Ar** + Ar + O2 → products, with the rate constant in the range (1.5-3.7) x 10-29 cm6 s-1. The rate constant of the deactivation of excited ozone molecules by O2 was found to be (5.1 ± 0.6) ´ 10-15 cm3 s-1.
