- The second half of the eighteenth century has seen the top flourish of the organbuilder’s art in Pommerania. These were the times when the most magnificent instruments were built, among them those in Our Lady and St. Nicolas Church in Gdańsk or in the Cathedral Church at Oliwa. Unfortunately, during the World War II most of these invaluable monuments have perished and only quite limited number survived. However, the majority of the instruments do not possess their original forms as they were modernized several times. As a consequence of these modernizations in organ in St. Nicolas Church the conventional (tracker and sticker) action has been replaced with a pneumatic mechanism. Also the original stops have been lost which are discussed by the author dividing them according to manuals. It is proposed by the author in conclusion to restore the original tuning of instrument, though it is both highly expensive and perplexed operation, thus obtaining one of the best concert instruments of this kind in Poland.
