Opis:
The article is an anthropological interpretation of the monument White/Wash II – a Memorial for the Victims of the 1946 Pogrom designed by Jack Sal and erected in Kielce, the town where the pogrom took place. The analysis includes functions and communicational relationships of the monument in the urban architecture and artistic space. The cognitive process revealed that the image of a house is an axiological center of the artist’s architectural narrative. Thus, the polymorphism and polysemy of the monument are perceptible. The monument allusively invokes the archetype of a house, the symbol of the Jewish “shtetl”. It also assumes the form of a symbolic memory sign – a medallion – with an outline of the house and the backstreet where the pogrom took place in the postwar history of the Jewish nation. Jack Sal’s monument develops an innovative language of public discourse, and being a cultural text, it creates a code that indicates the values which are manifested in the urban space – living and building – representing the idea of a family nest, an existential expression of a human community. The artist’s symbolic narrative refers to the subjective, personal consciousness of viewers and their hermeneutic intuition which allows for recognizing the values common to people of different nations, times and cultures.

Opis:
The article recalls the late poet, whom the author knew very well, and interprets his literary output. The author focuses on the last two volumes of poetry published by the writer from Piotrków Trybunalski, central Poland, which were designed as bilingual books, in Polish and English, comprising Polish and American motifs related to the history of the poet’s family, his favourite books and cultural fascinations. The first book published in 2001 was meant to be an introduction to the full version entitled The Tale of an Old Photoalbum. The Story of Kajetan Szczukocki and translated by Piotr and Aleksandra Szczypa. However, the bilingual version of the book has not been published, yet. The other book Valley of Consciousness translated by the same team was published in 2012. Jerzy Misztela made himself known as a regional author – a bard and glorifier of Nadpilicze, the area around Piotrków Trybunalski situated in the Pilica River Valley. The beauty of his native village Stara Wieś near Rozprza, where he spent his childhood and adolescence, formed him as a poet of the „home river” of Luciąża. Besides strong regionalism and folk-literary tradition in the post-war Polish literature, characterized by great sensitivity to rural life and nature, his literary output recalls universalism of European culture, intellectualism and going through sensuously perceived existence, being aware of people and generations passing away and of history. Realism combined with aestheticism, emotionalism and mythization imbues Jerzy W. Misztela’s work with considerable epic values making him some sort of „Homer of Nadpilicze”.

Opis:
The article discusses the questions of poetics and philosophy in Bogdan Loebl’s poetry comparing two poems: Dopóki bolisz [Until You Hurt] by the aforementioned author and Leopold Staff’s sonnet Kowal [Blacksmith]. The confrontation of the two poems is designed as a ready-to-use lesson plan, especially helpful for students attending the last year of high school in view of the final exam. The article includes the contexts of both genesis of the two discussed poems and functions of cultural discourse.

Opis:
The article’s aim is to renew the research issues concerning regional romantic groups active in Warsaw in the years 1829–1830, in particular to describe the situation of the group of poets of Warsaw and Lithuanian background gathered around the two issues of the annual Melitele edited by Adam Mickiewicz’s friends, Antoni Edward Odyniec and Stefan Witwicki. The annual managed to develop forms, subjects and ideas of romanticism adopted years earlier by the Vilnius-based Society of Philomaths, and promote Mickiewicz’s poetry of his Russian period. In this way Melitele became the centre (medium) developing literary life in Warsaw and spreading patterns and patriotic ideas of freedom, and thus affecting integration of the Warsaw-based circles of young men of letters and patriots around the axiology of Polish romanticism. The annual created regional climate that revived poetry and critical reviews on a nationwide scale in the time preceding the November Uprising.

The aim of this paper was to analyse in depth the existing research on the effectiveness of forced cooling and the directions in its improvement and development against the background of the increasing needs of machine tools and machining processes. The forced cooling methods used and their importance from the point of view of the development of machine tools are discussed. A detailed review of the state of the art in this field, including the latest research reports, is carried out. The essence and methods of forced cooling parameters improvement through holistic modelling, numerical simulations and optimization are presented. Moreover, the currently achievable effectiveness of forced cooling is illustrated with the results of the research conducted by the authors. Finally, conclusions are drawn and suggestions concerning the future research in this field are put forward.

Opis:
This paper deals with the precision modelling of the ball screw unit’s thermal behaviour in the turning centre and its impact on the tool head positioning error. The error components along controllable axes X and Z are described in detail using an FE model integrating the changes in thermal and force loads and deformations occurring during the motion of the nut as a heat source. The impact of the nut work cycle on the thermal deformations of the ball screw and the displacements of the slideways and the screw points along both the axes and on carriage positioning precision is demonstrated.
