Opis:
We present the results of electron paramagnetic resonance investigations of GaN bulk crystals doped with Mn. The EPR experiment shows the Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ resonance in all the investigated n-type crystals, while in highly resistive samples extra doped with Mg acceptor the Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ resonance decreases. This is a consequence of the location of Mn acceptor level in GaN band gap. The analysis of the spin relaxation times reveals the Korringa scattering as the dominating spin relaxation mechanism in n-type GaN:Mn crystals. The effective exchange constant determined from spin relaxation rate temperature dependence is of the order of 14 meV.

Magnetic, structural, and optical properties of ZnMnO films grown with atomic layer epitaxy are discussed. Atomic layer epitaxy films were grown at low temperature using organic zinc and manganese precursors. From magnetometry and electron spin resonance investigations we conclude that lowering of a growth temperature significantly limits formation of Mn precipitates and inclusions of different foreign phases of manganese oxides to ZnMnO host.

Opis:
The authors described micro-scale carbonate concretions occurring at a depth of about 41 m within Holocene sandy sediments filling the Guadiana River paleovalley, representing the transitional fluvial- -estuarine facies. Despite their minute sizes, the micro-concretions show a complex internal structure. Regular distribution of Mg, Mn and Ca can be assigned to a chemical zoning, pointing to precipitation under varying chemical conditions. Based on morphological and chemical peculiarities, four types of concretions can be distinguished. Detrital Fe-Mg-carbonates form nuclei. At first, Mn-rich carbonate precipitated as a coating, which is coherent with the sequence of precipitation of carbonates associated with bacteria-mediated oxidation of organic matter. Subsequently, the main bodies of concretions precipitated as Fe-carbonate (siderite). The last precipitation episode is marked by enrichment in Ca. The XRD patterns show the presence of a mixture of discrete carbonate phases.

In this paper we investigate electron emission/capture from/to the DX state of indium in CdTe by means of high pressure freeze-out cycle and steady-state photo-conductivity experiments. The results indicate that the DX state is occupied by two electrons. A comparison with deep level transient spectroscopy data shows that two-electron emission occurs at low temperatures, while one-electron emission takes place at high temperatures.

Opis:
New biostratigraphical and carbon isotope data are presented for the Upper Jurassic limestones of the Raptawicka Turnia Limestone Formation (High Tatric unit, Western Tatra Mountains, Poland) from the Mały Giewont area. The Kimmeridgian, lower Tithonian and lower part of the upper Tithonian have been identified on the basis of calcareous dinocysts and calpionellids. Eight microfossil biozones are distinguished: acme Fibrata, acme Parvula, Moluccana, Borzai, Tithonica acme Pulla(?), Malmica, Chitinoidella and Crassicollaria (pars). The Kimmeridgian/Tithonian boundary is indicated at the top of the Borzai Zone 76 m above the base of the Raptawicka Turnia Limestone Formation. The microfossil stratigraphy suggests the late Early Kimmeridgian age (acme Parvula Zone) of the ammonites described by Passendorfer (1928). The taxon Taramelliceras ex gr. compsum found 14 m above those ammonites is Late Kimmeridgian in age. Seven microfacies types (MF) are identified in the Upper Jurassic limestones of the Mały Giewont area. The Bositra-Saccocomidae MF occurs across the Lower-Upper Kimmeridgian boundary. The planktonic and benthic foraminifera occur in the Upper Jurassic deposits of the Raptawicka Turnia Limestone Formation. The genera Lenticulina Lamarck and Spirillina Ehrenberg are common in the Kimmeridgian and Tithonian limestones. The palaeobathymetric evolution of the Kimmeridgian-Tithonian deposition recorded in the Mały Giewont sections reveals: the transgressive episode at the Lower/Upper Kimmeridgian boundary interval, the transgression peak during the Early Tithonian (Malmica Zone) and gradual shallowing of the High-Tatric swell in the Late Tithonian. Integrated isotope stratigraphy and biostratigraphy enabled correlation with the pelagic section of the Sub-Tatric succession in the Długa Valley section. The middle part of the Raptawicka Turnia Limestone Formation (Upper Kimmeridgian) might be correlated with the upper part of the Czajakowa Radiolarite Formation (red radiolarites) and Czorsztyn Formation in the Długa Valley section. The upper part of the Raptawicka Turnia Limestone Formation of Early Tithonian age corresponds mostly to the Jasenina Formation. The overall similarity of the δ13C decreasing values recorded in the Kimmeridgian–earliest Tithonian interval of the Mały Giewont (this study) and Długa Valley sections indicates that the generally shallow-water deposits of the Raptawicka Turnia Limestone Formation accumulated below the zone influenced by changes in the composition of marine water caused, for instance, by intense rainfalls.

Opis:
An issue of mean residence time (MRT) evaluation, i.e. the period of time from rainfall until drainage of groundwater by rivers (Danube River Basin, Vistula River Basin and Narew River Basin), is discussed Asimple method of evaluating the groundwater MRT for the Danube River Basin based on tritium data is introduced. It has been confirmed that the historical tritium level in the rivers, being higher than in precipitation, has its end and is reversed, opening a new pathway in understanding the surface-groundwater interaction and specifically in evaluating MRT of groundwater. The authors have defined a separate notification for mean residence time of the whole water in the basin (τ) and mean residence time for groundwater in the basin (τwp). Based on the tritium study the obtained τ values are 6.5 and 5.7 years for the Vistula River Basin (VRB) and the Narew River Basin (NRB), respectively. In turn, the obtained τwp values are 8.0 and 6.0 years, respectively. NRB is a lowland plain and a morphologically, geologically and hydrogeologically uniform basin. The obtained τ wp of groundwater is thus representative for the whole basin. Instead inmorphologically non uniform VRB basin groundwater τwp is a generalized value,i.e.averaged over contributed parts of the basin.

Opis:
The points of the national network of groundwater monitoring comprise a stable benchmarks in quality and quantity monitoring. The obtained data (tritium and δ18O) are important for understanding the groundwater cycling and are indirect indicators of aquifer vulnerability to anthropogenic pollution. The goal of this paper is to present the relation of the tritium content and delta value of stable isotopes of oxygen against the groundwater sampling depth in 2004–2012. It is demonstrated that the remains of “nuclear” tritium concentration is still present in groundwater as a tritium peak at depths around 30 m. Determination of dynamics of recharge in groundwater bodies, based on national network observation points is associated to the estimation of the groundwater residence time in aquifers and remains one the vital problem of hydrogeology.

In this paper we present our observation of electric dipole spin resonance and current induced spin resonance in ZnO bulk crystals, both effects result from spin-orbit coupling. Electric dipole spin resonance originates from admixture of spin state due to spin-orbit interaction which leads to probability of spin-flip caused by electric component of microwave field. In current induced spin resonance phenomenon the electric component of microwave field induces electron motion leading to mean ac spin-orbit field that acts on electron spin. Spin-orbit interaction can be described in terms of the Rashba field, an effective magnetic field that induce spin resonance. In contrast to magnetic and electric dipole spin resonances the current induced resonance is characterized by dispersive-like line shape.

Electrical and magnetic properties of ZnCoO thin films grown on silicon substrates by atomic layer deposition method are investigated. The films were grown using reactive organic precursors of zinc and cobalt. The use of these precursors allowed us the significant reduction of a growth temperature to 200°C and below, which proved to be very important for the growth of uniform films of ZnCoO. We have measured the microwave AC conductivity and EPR for two types of ZnCoO samples, with different Co fractions.

The level of nitrate concentration in groundwater is a measure of the degree of contamination of the environment. However, it says little about the origin of nitrates. Stable isotopes of N and O (δ15 N and δ18 O) can differentiate between manure and chemicalfertilizers. This is the reason for undertaking a study on groundwater with high concentration of nitrates in the national monitoring network to recognize the origin of nitrates. Contrary to expectations, the results suggest that nitrates are derived mostly from manures and less from chemical fertilizers. Further studies are urgently needed.

Optical and magnetic properties of ZnMnO films are discussed based on the results of cathodoluminescence, photoluminescence, and magneto-photoluminescence investigations. We show that photoluminescence/cathodoluminescence emissions are strongly quenched and become in-plane inhomogeneous in samples with increased Mn fractions. Strong polarization of photoluminescence is observed, even though excitonic lines do not shift and are not split at magnetic fields up to 6 T.
