Opis:
The monitoring of greenhouse gases originating from different sources will be a crucial problem during this century. Experiments have been performed in order to obtain stable isotope composition of CO2 emitted by large industrial off-gas emitters. A special set for sample collection in field conditions was designed and tested. Two different methods of CO2 extraction were elaborated: vacuum extraction and extraction with carrier gas. Preliminary results of CO2 stable isotope composition emitted from an electric power plant during one working season are presented.

Opis:
The possibility of application of naturally existing differences in isotope contents 18O/16O, 2H/1H in waters for investigation of transport and mixing of various waters in the tributary-river system is presented. Experiments carried out on the Bug-Narew rivers-Zegrze Lake and the BugoNarew-Vistula rivers systems have indicated that the hydrogen isotope ratio 2H/1H can be used as an intrinsic tracer of natural mixing processes occurring in rivers. The IRMS methodology was used for isotope ratio measurement of water samples. The degrees of water mixing as a function of distance from the confluence point of rivers were determined. The obtained results indicate that in water systems where the natural differences in ?2H are higher than 5‰ this technique can replace the time-consuming and expensive dye (or radiotracer) dispersion tests for evaluation of pollutant transport in rivers.

Opis:
In the present work the carbon and nitrogen isotopic composition of food products bought in the retail trade in Warsaw is demonstrated. The research was carried out using meat (pork, chicken), hen eggs and honey. These products originated from the conventional and ecological farms. The values of the isotopic ratios are expressed as δ notation and correspond to the international standards (V-PDB for δ13C, and air for δ15N) according to the following general formula: δ(‰) = [(R sample / R standard) – 1] × 1000, where R represents the ratio between the less abundant and more abundant isotopes, in particular 13C/12C and 15N/14N. The results received in our laboratory, were compared with results presented in the literature for similar products. The results of the study show that the N and C stable isotope ratios in the tested products can be applied to verify their authenticity.

Opis:
The numerous publications on the positive impact of sea buckthorn and its products on human health concern mainly the fruits and seeds. However, there is little data relating to the properties of sea buckthorn leaves. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the chemical composition and isotope content in the leaves of sea buckthorn Hippophae rhamnoides L. depending on where its existence. The habitat conditions significantly differentiated the studies traits. Mean crude protein content in the leaves reached 235.0 g∙kg-1 d. m. The most proteins contain plants growing on native soil in the Dolna Odra Power Station. The ash content, fat, fiber and total carbohydrates was significantly higher in the leaves of sea buckthorn growing on sandy soil reclaimed from using ash from coal with NPK 60 – 70 – 70 + sludge. Their average concentration was: 49.2, 63.0, 128.1, 587.4 g∙kg-1 d. m., respectively. The concentration of micronutrients was varied and depended significantly from the place of living plants. A higher level of δ15N found in sea buckthorn grown on land reclaimed and fertilized with NPK. The conditions living of sea buckthorn didn’t differentiate δ13C value. It cannot be unequivocally determined whether the results of the study on the influence of habitat conditions on chemical and isotope composition of sea buckthorn leaves are permanent. Therefore, it is necessary to continue the research.

Opis:
Literature studies show that there are few data on sulfur isotope ratio in available the Polish coals. Elaboration of a method for the separation of sulfur from coal and measurement of sulfur isotope ratio of Polish coals is the scope of this work. The aim of the study was the preparation of coal samples and extraction of the particular form of sulfur. The stable compounds (Ag2S and BaSO4) were converted into sulfur dioxide. Sulfur isotope ratio in the gas phase was determined using a mass spectrometer. Samples were taken from selected Polish coal mines. Hard coal from Upper Silesia Basin, one sample from the Bogdanka coal-mine and one sample of lignite from the Be?chatow coal-mine.
