Opis:
Examples of geoengineering methods (static and dynamic probings) that can be applied to analyses of geological environments are presented. The potential is shown by the results of the determination of the values of the soil-density index (ID), the soil-behaviour index (Ic), the constrained modulus (M), the overconsolidation ratio (OCR) and their vertical changes. The values obtained for ID and Ic facilitate the determination of layers with a specific character. This is demonstrated for several aeolian and glacial deposits in Poland. The application of static probings to the analyses of changes in OCR and M made it possible to identify several depositional phases and the effect of postdepositional processes. Usages of the probings can significantly contribute to the interpretation of palaeo-environments (e.g. in the context of geostatistical models), but the results obtained should be handled cautiously.

Opis:
The lithology, structure and geophysical characteristics of the glaciolacustrine clays deposited in the Wierzchowo proglacial lake were determined using static penetration tests (CPTU) in combination with standard lithological measurements. The deposits are divided into four lithological units (R1 to R4) on the basis of overconsolidation. Units R3 and R4 are separated by mass-flow deposits. The depositional conditions history of the lake result represent four phases: (1) an initial (low-energy) phase with the deposition of the rhythmically laminated sediments of units R1 and R2, which are divided by an erosional interval; (2) a phase of non-deposition with some desiccation structures and extended consolidation of sediments; (3) the main phase characterised by deposition of the rhythmically laminated sediments of unit R3; and finally, (4) the youngest phase, which represents alternations of deposition and erosion. The results show that sedimentation in the Wierzchowo proglacial lake was less continuous, and that the depositional processes were more complex than in the neighboring Złocieniec glacial lake.

Opis:
The Cone Penetration Test is one of the most versatile and widely used geotechnical tests over the world. Some differences in technical solutions between the equipment manufactured by different producers and the relatively quick wear of the penetrometer itself make the issue of quality and comparability of the CPTU results very actual. The tests were conducted in the testing ground of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The test site is located in the northern part of Poznań, within a marginal zone of the Poznań Phase of the Weichselian (Vistulian) glaciation. The subsoil consists of glacial till of the Riss glaciation and glacial till of the Vistulian glaciation, separated by fluvioglacial sandy sediments and covered with fine and medium sands with single gravel grains. The quality of geotechnical parameters of the tested subsoil was assessed for the initial constrained modulus and undrained shear strength. To determine these parameters, static penetrometers produced by two different manufacturers were used. The tests and the results of analysis were performed in three stages. In the first stage, each penetrometer was used to investigate homogeneity and diversity of the subsoil structure in the test sites. The subsoil structure diversity was examined by grouping statistically similar Rf coefficient values along the profile. In the second stage, the level of accuracy and precision in the assessment of the corrected cone resistance - qt, friction on the friction sleeve-fs, and pore pressure - u2 was determined for individual penetrometers. In the next stage, the differences between the constrained modulus and undrained shear strength were determined for both penetrometers. This analysis takes into account the level of precision of the corrected cone resistance.

Opis:
This article contains the analysis of the correlation between the cone resistance qc from CPTU tests and shear modulus G0 determined from seismic tests SDMT and SCPTU. The analysis was performed for sands located in Poland, characterised by differential grain size distribution and origin. The significant impact of the independent variables; grain size, preconsolidation stress σ’p, geostatic vertical stress σ’v0 and relative density index on the dependencies analysed, were examined in three stages. Firstly, a general relationship between the cone resistance and shear modulus G0 was established; in the second stage, an analysis was carried out in selected groups of subsoil; and in the third stage, the influence of other independent variables was taken into account. In each stage, the functional form of the dependency was determined, and their statistical significance was assessed throughout coefficient of determination R2. For more variables, multivariable regression analysis was applied for assessment. Conducted analysis showed that the overall view of the relation between the cone resistance qc and shear modulus G0 has low evaluation of the statistical significance. This fact is consistent with the theoretical assessment of this relationship. To obtain a satisfactory assessment of this dependency, it is necessary to construct empirical equations for individual groups of soil, taking into account other independent variables; preconsolidation stress σ’p, vertical stress σ’vo and relative density index. This approach allows to assess the local correlation relationship, which is very useful during the geological project.

Opis:
The subject of this article is the analysis of the relationship between G0/MDMT and KD, where G0 is the small strain shear modulus, while MDMT and KD are respectively the constrained modulus and the horizontal stress index determined from DMT tests. This relationship allows to determine a profile with depth of G0 from standard DMT test results, useful when data from non-seismic DMT investigations are available. The analysis was based on a large amount of data for a wide range of soils of different origins in Poland. The dataset included OC and NC loams, silts, medium sands, silty sands and fine sands. The overconsolidation ratio (OCR) was estimated using data from CPTU and DMT tests. The obtained empirical G0/MDMT vs. KD relationships were compared with the correlations established by Marchetti et al. [1] for different soil types. To account for the significant influence of overconsolidation, an original empirical relationship between G0/σ'p and KD, where σ'p is the preconsolidation stress, was defined based on data from all investigated fine-grained soils.
Zbiór danych obejmował iły, gliny OC i NC, pyły, piaski średnie, piaski pylaste i piaski drobne.
