Opis:: The author shows how the breakthrough that took place in medicine, especially in surgery and anatomy at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, shifted to the perception of human corpses. Public autopsies and demonstrations of electroplating found their reflection in the literature, contributed to the development of painting techniques, but most of all within the reach of the desacralization of the corpses and changes in morals.

Opis:: The paper asks whether editing of 18th-century texts is still needed. By answering this question, she tracks the changes in editing on the example of Polish research on the Enlightenment. On the one hand, it shows how vital classical editing of the 20th century was: publishing volumes of collected works, correspondence, poetry, anthologies – types of editions whose development peaked in Poland in the communist era when cultural policy financially supported scientific editions in order to use them for ideological goals. On the other hand, the author points out how much the demand for critical editions has changed in modern times, especially in the field of humanistic themes and turns, i.e., gender studies and women’s journals, in which the author of the paper specialises (intimate women’s journals of the 18th and 19th centuries). The paper also deals with the digitisation of sources and scientific editions. The author recognises the advantages of this digitisation challenge and points to its rarely discussed limitations. The conclusion emphasises the importance of scientific anthologies and the editorship itself, which enables direct contact with the text and its more profound understanding, especially in order to understand tradition and the present day.

Opis:: Szkoła Rycerska to jeden z ważniejszych projektów modernizacyjnych przeprowadzonych w połowie lat 60. XVIII wieku przez Stanisława Augusta i jego współpracowników, tuż po wstąpieniu na tron Polski. Projekt edukacyjny wyprzedzający o kilka lat powołanie Komisji Edukacji Narodowej, pierwszej w Polsce i w Europie władzy oświatowej o charakterze współczesnego ministerstwa oświaty publicznej, świeckiej. Aby inicjatywa nowoczesnej szkoły się powiodła, potrzebna była dobrze przygotowana kadra, także kierownicza (duża jej część to cudzoziemcy), odpowiednio skonstruowany edukacyjno-wychowawczy program (początkowo oparty na zachodnich wzorcach) i podręczniki. Formującą rolę odegrał w wypadku udowany rytuał wspomagany przez teksty: katechizmy, dialogi, formularze, które traktować trzeba jako narzędzia mnemotechniczne, ale też budujące tożsamość absolwenta Szkoły, w założeniu kuźni elity wojskowej i administracyjnej państwa. Nie można w jej opisie pominąć warstwy obyczajowej wymykającej się programom wychowawczym i kadeckiej codzienności, w której nie brakowało też pojedynków czy wstydliwych chorób.
The School of Chivalry is one of the most signifi cant modernisation projects carried out in the mid-1760s by Stanisław August and his collaborators shortly after he ascended to the Polish throne. It was an educational project implemented a few years before the establishment of the Commission of National Education, the fi rst educational authority in Poland and in Europe, the function of which corresponded to the present ministry of public, secular education. For the initiative of a modern school to be successful, it needed a well-qualified personnel, including the management staff (a high number of them were foreigners), an appropriately structured educational programme (initially based on Western models), and textbooks. What played a forming role in the case of the Corps of Cadets was an complex ritual supported by the following texts: catechism books, dialogues, forms, which should be treated as mnemotechnical tools, but also as ones building the identity of a graduate from the School, which was intended to be a breeding ground for the military and administrative elite of the state. Its description cannot ignore the moral layer that escaped the educational programmes and the cadets’ everyday life, which was not devoid of duels and embarrassing diseases.
