    The article discusses Indonesian and Polish phraseological units, and specifically fixed expressions (idioms) and formulaic expressions (phrasemes). The linguistic units considered come predominantly from Indonesian and Polish dictionaries of phrases. The research also aims to provide a thorough description of such phraseological units characterized by either identical or similar formal structures between the compared languages. Particular focus is placed on identicality or similarity in qualitative and/or quantitative terms. The formally identical phraseological units include expressions having the same number of components arranged in the same order in the expression’s structure and having units with meanings having the same non-phraseological use. The formally similar phraseological units display certain lexical and grammatical qualitative and/or quantitative differences.

    This paper focuses on Indonesian and Polish idioms analysed from an inter-lingual standpoint, with particular emphasis on their image components. The research material comes from general and specialized (phraseological) dictionaries of both languages. The objective is to assign Polish translation equivalents to selected Indonesian idioms. As no text corpora or translation series are available for Indonesian and Polish, the investigation is limited to systemic (lexicological) equivalence. The analysis of the Polish equivalents of Indonesian idioms covers stable set phrases which carry the same image, idioms which carry an analogous image, and idioms with identical meaning which carry a different image. Also considered are false equivalents (pseudo-equivalents).

    The article discusses Indonesian translations of the New Testament. Focus has been placed on methods of translating the Greek word άρτος ‘bread’. Long unknown on the Indonesian islands, bread was first brought there by the European colonizers. A study of the renditions of the Greek word άρτος in Indonesian (Malaysian) editions of the New Testament showed that translators tended to express the Greek lexeme literarily, as demonstrated by the frequent use of the noun roti ‘bread’ (also spelled rawtij or rawti in older versions). Wherever the lexeme άρτος appears in its literal sense or as a synonym of food or meal, it is replaced with units having more general meanings such as makanan (makan) ‘food, nutriment, nourishment, provisions and rezeki (formerly also occasionally translated as ridjycki or redjeki) which stands for ‘basic necessities of life, daily sustenance’. Only on rare occasions does one come across the equivalent nafkah used in a sense that is synonymous with rezeki. Only in two places in the Second Thessalonians (in a 1913 translation) has the lexeme άρτος been replaced with the noun nasi or ‘rice’. The device fits within the realm of dynamic equivalence.

    The object of the linguistic analysis are articles published in the years 1895–2005 in „Przewodnik Katolicki” – one of the oldest Polish periodicals and the oldest Catholic weekly in Poland, chich to a large extent has preserved its traditional line. The research conducted in this paper is of an empirical, material and interpretative character. Its purpose is the analysis of linguistic facto excerpted from „Przewodnik Katolicki” which were used by the magazine editors to express positive emotions. Only morphological indicators of positive emotions (inflectional expressive forms, morphological expressive forms) have been analyzed. Analyzing the expressive forms, the author reveals their factual emotional values coded in the elements constituting those constructions, i.e. inflectional morphemes and morphological formants. To achieve this goal he also takes into consideration other aspects of the process of expression. He includes both interactions between the constituent elements (the inner context) of inflectional and morphological structures and the activity of other components of an utterance or consituation which jointly organize the emotional meaning of expressive forms. The reconstructed senses are presented in the form of explications, following the ideas of Anna Wierzbicka and Stanisław Grabias, as analytical formulas equivalent with the defined constructions.

    The article discusses emotive expressions that express negative emotions of the sender excerpted from Przewodnik Katolicki from the years 1895–2005. The author studies nominal primal negative emotional expressions that belong to the class of personal names (nomina personae), i.e. words that are semantically non-derivable and whose meanings include a fixed emotional component that is obligatory revealed in the statement. This group of units also includes words that are derived morphologically but the latter group includes only those words in which the formant is not the carrier of emotional marking. The excerpted lexical elements have been semantically analyzed. The analysis made it possible to identify their expressive meanings. In the reconstruction of their basic components (linguistic signs of emotion that are indicators and not carriers of meaning but whose signifieds correspond to a verbal proposition.), different factors that co-create the emotional value of peiorativa are considered, particularly the contextual influence. The analysis of the research material makes it possible to prove that the emotionally charged words used by the journalists writing for the weekly make their statement more powerful, add to its sharpness or pungency and, therefore, enhance the process of shaping the personal outlook of its readers.

    The topic of the article are selected aspects of the language of Dobra Czytanka wg św. ziom’a Janka, which is a stylized hip-hop slang version of the Gospel According to St. John. The article presents a selection of lexical and phraseological devices that depart from the traditional canon of Polish Biblical style. The features include various modifications in Biblical onomastics, forms of address, and in phraseology and fixed Biblical phrases. Such transformations lead to a specific desacralization of Biblical content. However, the desacralization occurs only as opposed to the texts that perpetuate the traditional Polish Biblical style, which is characterized by hieratic quality and ritualization. The authors of Czytanka make the Biblical content clear and comprehensible for representatives of hip-hop subculture, following the principle of dynamic translation of Biblical text.
