Opis:
This article analyses the first traces of postsecular turn in historical theory, arguing that they first emerged in Dominick LaCapra’s book History and Its Limits: Human, Animal, Violence (2009) and in Allan Megill’s subsequent polemic with that work. The author claims that what prevails in LaCapra’s narrative is the rhetoric of “resisting apocalypse”, thus demonstrating how he inscribes postsecular themes with the issue of trauma, together with its religious connotations. The discussion between LaCapra and Megill is treated here as a point of departure for considering the forms that the postsecular can take in historical theory.

Opis:
Well-organized management of a supply chain involves the control of inventory levels and fast response to the changing customer demands. Enterprises cannot cope with this problem which contributes to the growing stock levels and therefore increases costs. The main goal of the article is to present a simulation approach to the problem of inventory management in a supply chain. The work shows the use of computer simulation techniques in order to emulate a supply chain system and its stochastic behaviour. The procedure for the usage of simulation modelling was described in a case study containing an analysis of an online store. The simulation results are presented using statistical parameters, which means that managers can get not only information concerning the expected value of the parameter looking decision-making, but also statistics to the characteristics of the risk associated with the decision associated with possible uncertainty.

In British theatre of the last three decades, we observe a significant shift from the more verbal, playwright-focused model of theatre whose meanings are determined primarily by the literary concept of drama to the one which exercises more profoundly artistic autonomy of theatre. Complicite is one of the leading theatre companies that are responsible for this shift. In the performances of Complicite, the theme of violence has been explored frequently. The whole variety of theatre devices were employed in depicting images of violence. The article discusses plays such as Mnemonic, The Street of Crocodiles, Measure for Measure and The Master and Margarita, A Disappearing Number, Shun-kin and The Encounter and mentions others.
W ciągu ostatnich trzech dekad można zaobserwować w brytyjskim teatrze odejście od modelu teatru opartego na słowie, którego znaczenia determinowane są przez literacką koncepcję dramatu na rzecz teatru, który korzysta w większym zakresie z autonomii artystycznej teatru. Complicite to jedna z tych grup teatralnych, które stoją za tymi zmianami. W przedstawienich Complicite, temat przemocy pojawia się regularnie i do jej zaprezentowania wykorzystywany jest cały wachlarz środków artystycznych. Artykuł omawia sztuki: Mnemonic, The Street of Crocodiles, Measure for Measure, The Master and Margarita, A Disappearing Number, Shun-kin, The Encounter i kilka innych.

Opis:
Problems with commodities and the delivery of products have accompanied trade since its beginnings. It is not possible to stock up, as there will always be limitations – of storage space, resources or financial resources. The e-commerce sector in the age of Industry 4.0 era faces its own specific problems: on the one hand, customers want customised products fast, on the other hand, shops have to lower storage costs and efficiently manage the supply chain. The paper proposes a framework of simulation modelling with a regression module for shops operating in the e-commerce sector; it is a tool for decision-makers that simulates the ordering and delivering process with a varying number of products, suppliers and a varying demand. The aim is to define a novel approach where computer simulation and regression models are integrated and combined in order to provide decision-makers with information about the average delivery time to customers ordering online products and possible delays. The results of analyses show 90% reliability of the regression model in terms of changes in the average delivery time depending on number of products sold by the shop, demand fluctuation, the number of distributors and the average delivery time of products from the distributor.
Problemy z zapasami i dostawą produktów towarzyszyły handlowi od początku jego istnienia. Nie jest możliwe utrzymanie cały czas wysokiego stanu zapasów, ponieważ zawsze będą istniały ograniczenia – powierzchni magazynowej, zasobów materialnych lub zasobów finansowych. Sektor e-commerce w dobie Przemysłu 4.0 boryka się z własnymi specyficznymi problemami: z jednej strony klienci chcą szybko dostać dostosowane do swoich potrzeb produkty, z drugiej zaś – sklepy muszą obniżyć koszty magazynowania i efektywnie zarządzać łańcuchem dostaw. W artykule proponuje się połączenie modelowania symulacyjnego z modułem regresji dla sklepów działających w sektorze handlu elektronicznego; jest to narzędzie dla decydentów, które symuluje proces zamawiania i dostarczania dla różnej liczby produktów, dostawców i zróżnicowanego popytu. Celem artykułu jest zdefiniowanie nowego podejścia, w którym symulacja komputerowa i modele regresji są zintegrowane i połączone w celu dostarczenia decydentom informacji o średnim czasie dostawy i ewentualnych opóźnieniach do klientów zamawiających produkty online. Wyniki analiz modelu regresji pokazują iż 90% zmian średniego czasu dostawy zależy od liczby produktów sprzedawanych przez sklep, wahań popytu, liczby dystrybutorów oraz średniego czasu dostawy produktów od dystrybutora.

Artykuł omawia losy rosyjskich żołnierzy o przekonaniach monarchistycznych, internowanych w obozie w Tucholi oraz mieszkających w Toruniu. Bazując na policyjnych źródłach z Archiwum Państwowego w Bydgoszczy, przedstawia agitację monarchistyczną prowadzoną wśród internowanych oraz poza obozem. Obok opisu głównego przejawu aktywności grupy (kolportowanie prasy monarchistycznej pochodzącej głównie z Berlina) zasygnalizowana została międzynarodowa współpraca rosyjskiej emigracji monarchistycznej. The article discusses the fate of Russian soldiers with monarchistic views who were interned in the camp at Tuchola and those who lived in Toruń. On the basis of material kept in the State Archives in Bydgoszcz it presents monarchist agitation among internees in the camp and outside it. Aside from the description of a main activity of the group (distribution of the monarchist press, mainly from Berlin), there is also an outline of international cooperation of Russian monarchist emigration.

Volatility indices became a important factors on capital markets and are considered as fear factors. First volatility index VIX, was defined for Chicago Board of Trade in 1993, and was developed in 2003. In next years we observed growing numbers of volatility indices on main capital market around of the world. There were more than 20 volatility indices on capital markets at the end of 2012. The aim of this study is construction of the volatility index considering to Warsaw Stock Exchange trading rules and market participants. We also test the “fear factor” properties of this index.

The paper is an introduction to the Historyka’s special issue about “Core Concepts of Historical Thinking.” It presents framework and assumptions which shape a profile and content of the volume. It shows understanding of “knowledge of the past” broader than discipline of history only, as well as the methodological characteristics of such an account. It pays an attention to the link between conceptual thinking and the meaning of subjectivity in the modern humanistic reflection. Discussion about “core concepts of historical thinking” concerns not an allegedly, abstract and static structure of concepts which would rule historical thinking per se, but it is focused on the role of concepts which are shaped in the practices of specific researchers and their interactions with the material analyzed. The paper also situates the discussion in the context of recognized currents and ideas about meaning of concepts in humanities, especially in the methodology of historical research. In conclusion, the circumstances of the volume’s emergence is shown.

Mając na uwadze szeroki potencjał omawianego zjawiska, autor skupia się na detalu scenicznym i werbalnym, odnosząc się przy tym do twórczości Mariny Carr, teatrów Complicité oraz Ex Machina, a także niespodziewanie aktualnej – również w kontekście  wojny w Ukrainie – brazylijskiej inscenizacji Czekając na Godota w Teatrze Oficina Uzyna Uzona z São Paolo w reżyserii Zé Celso.
The article deals with the subject of the connection between horror and imagination in selected contemporary theatre performances. Bearing in mind the wide potential of the discussed issue, the article focuses on stage and verbal detail, referring to the works of Marina Carr, Complicité, Ex Machina, as well as the unexpectedly current – also in the context of the war in Ukraine – Brazilian staging of Waiting for Godot at the Teatro Oficina Uzyna Uzona from São Paolo, directed by Zé Celso.

In this article reactions of audience are taken into consideration in view of hermeneutic process that characterises theatre semiosis. Research material covers four performances, i.e. "1989" (dir. Katarzyna Szyngiera - Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre and Teatr im. Juliusza Słowackiego in Kraków), "Once Before I Go" (dir. Selina Cartmell - The Gate Theatre in Dublin), "Tosca" (dir. Ognian Draganoff - The National Opera in Iasi) and "Drive Your Plough Over the BOnes of the Dead" (dir. Simon McBurney - Complicité).  The study is of comparative character and discusses a spectrum of possible functions ascribed to the audiences' reactions.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the link between regulations and size of country-level investment crowdfunding markets in Europe. The author discusses the outlook and potential drivers behind the size of investment crowdfunding markets across European countries, with deeper insight into a leading market of the United Kingdom. The conclusions are supported by a quantitative analysis. Key findings indicate that regulatory aspects of investment crowdfunding correlate, on average, stronger with market size than non-regulatory factors. Besides, the size of population matters for crowdfunding market volumes, and British regulatory framework for investment crowdfunding appears as an attractive role model to consider in Poland.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to explore interdependence between foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows and competitiveness of national economy. The relationship between these two macroeconomic variables is analysed for Poland for the period between 2005 and 2016. The author discusses the structure, dynamics and drivers behind the competitiveness of Polish economy based on the methodology of the World Economic Forum. The conclusions are drawn from an investigation of over 270 rank correlations. Several statistically significant relationships were identified for the variables, suggesting that certain causal links in both directions between FDI inflows and competitiveness existed. The concluding remarks consist of several recommendations for the policymakers.

The program for pension system reform, launched at the beginning of 1997 in Poland, was called by its authors “Security through Diversity”. This title emphasizes that pension reform, which is designed to guarantee security for the insured, has to combine pay-as-you-go pillar together with mandatory, fully funded pillar as well as voluntary, funded pillar. This paper discusses consequences of the changes implemented in the year 2013 and consequently analyzes the changes in the composition of the pension funds’ portfolio, in particular the prohibition of investing in debt securities issued and guaranteed by the State Treasury.

Purpose: The aim of the article is to present the results of research conducted using the statistical method on the results of project management certification exams (IPMA-Student). The purpose of the research was to determine which elements of post-graduate students' competences are best developed. Design/methodology/approach: In the study, the statistical method and the individual case method were used. The data came from the IPMA-Student portal, from the results of the exam in electronic version. MS Excel 2013 software was used to prepare the results of the analysis. Basic statistical analyses were made. In addition, the analysed groups were compared due to the IPMA-Student's exam result. One-factor analysis of variance was used for this purpose. Findings: In the course of the work, the level of management competence in the various areas of technical, behavioural and contextual competence was identified. Practical implications: The results of the research and conclusions can be used as material to indicate which elements of project management competence require support and can be useful in the formulation of training programmes both at universities and in training companies. Originality/value: The research is based on the actual results of business certification exams carried out by an international independent professional association. Therefore, the result of the research is not based on a declarative description of students' competences, but on the real results of the exam.

Opis:
The paper deals with the subject related to the assessment of the influence of the axis angle of the metal components of the hip joint on the emission of cobalt ions. The tribological tests were carried out with the use of a simulator for the examination of hip joint endoprostheses, the structure of which enables the fixation of endoprosthesis components in accordance with the anatomical structure of the human hip joint. During the tests, the simulator performs flexion and extension movements as well as loads occurring in the human hip joint while walking. Loss-wear tests were carried out for nine variants of the “head–cup” system settings. These settings were determined on the basis of CT images obtained from patients after arthroplasty. After the tribological tests were completed, samples of the lubricating fluid with the wear products suspended in it were collected in order to determine the concentration of cobalt ions, which was carried out using the atomic absorption spectrometry method. As a result, the influence of the head antetorsion angle (α) and the acetabular anteversion angle (β) on the concentration of cobalt ions was analysed.
W pracy poruszono problematykę związaną z oceną wpływu kątów elementów endoprotezy stawu biodrowego na emisję jonów kobaltu. Badania tribologiczne przeprowadzono przy użyciu symulatora do badania endoprotez stawu biodrowego, którego konstrukcja umożliwia mocowanie elementów endoprotezy zgodnie z budową anatomiczną stawu biodrowego człowieka. Podczas testów symulator wykonuje ruchy zgięcia i wyprostu oraz obciążenia występujące w stawie biodrowym człowieka podczas chodzenia. Testy zużycia przeprowadzono dla dziewięciu wariantów ustawień układu „głowa–panewka”. Ustawienia te zostały określone na podstawie obrazów CT uzyskanych od pacjentów po endoprotezoplastyce. Po zakończeniu badań tribologicznych pobrano próbki cieczy smarującej z pozostałymi w niej produktami zużycia w celu oznaczenia stężenia jonów kobaltu, co przeprowadzono metodą atomowej spektrometrii absorpcyjnej. W rezultacie przeanalizowano wpływ kąta antetorsji głowy (α) i kąta antewersji panewki (β) na stężenie jonów kobaltu.

Celem artykułu jest klasyfikacja systemów zabezpieczenia społecznego osób niepełnosprawnych w państwach Unii Europejskiej z uwzględnieniem polskiego systemu zabezpieczenia społecznego na tle krajów Wspólnoty. Do oceny wykorzystano wybrane wskaźniki ekonomiczne, takie jak: udział wydatków na osoby z niepełnosprawnością w ogóle wydatków socjalnych i PKB państwa oraz wydatki na osoby niepełnosprawne per capita. Analizy wybranych państw dokonano głównie na podstawie dokumentów opublikowanych przez Komisję Europejską. Zakres czasowy badań to lata 2009–2016. Na podstawie przeprowadzonej klasyfikacji stwierdzono, że polski system zabezpieczenia społecznego zalicza się do średnio zaawansowanych. Do państw z wysoko rozwiniętym systemem zabezpieczenia społecznego osób niepełnosprawnych zaliczono między innymi kraje skandynawskie (Dania, Szwecja, Finlandia). Do państw z nisko zaawansowanym systemem zabezpieczenia społecznego osób niepełnosprawnych zaliczono między innymi Maltę i Cypr.
The aim of this article is to classify the security systems for disabled people within the European Union in relation to the Polish social security system in light of other European Union countries. The results were based on economic indicators such as: the role of expenses for disabled people within the overall national social expenses and GDP as well as the expenses for people with disability per capita. The analysis of the chosen countries took place mostly based on documents published by the European commission. The time period included the years 2009–2016. Based on the classification which has been carried out it has been concluded that the Polish social security system can be considered mid‑advanced. The countries which were considered to have a highly developed social security system for people with disability included mostly Scandinavian countries (Switzerland, Finland, Denmark). Countries with the lowest advancement rate for their social security system for people with disability included, among others, Cyprus and Malta.
