The term Łódź region connected to the regional organization of the country appears in 1999 according to the organization of the EU countries. It refers to the Łódź voivodeship which has functioned, within a bit different borders however, since 1919 with a small break from 1975 to 1999. The above mentioned voivodeship is not a natural region of either physical or geographical properties as it is situated in the main watershed of Poland, in the keystone of the watersheds of three rivers: Bzura, Pilica and Warta. Nor is it a homogeneous historical unity. After all historical divisions corresponded with neither geographical nor cultural properties of regions. What is extremely interesting about the history of Łódź is the fact that it was established in such a place which created a center of rapidly developing economic region. The next historical paradox is that the administrative distinction of the region as well as a formal recognition of Łódź as its capital happened in a time when the conditions supporting the development of the city and region changed dramatically due to the World War I. Since then Łódź has been in a state of permanent restructuring linked with making up for the civilization losses occurred in the nineteenth-century city eruption. The insufficiency of the restructuring actions towards the historical part of the city as well as uncoordinated development of its outer area (which was the outcome of mistakes in planning and land development) led to a regression phase of the city and its region in the final period of industrial age (which was also the end of the communist regime). Study of conditions and urban arrangement directions of the city of Łódź accepted by the Łódź City Council in 2002 (main designer – Mirosław Wiśniewski), which the talk will touch upon, as well as the Voivodeship arrangement plan passed by the Same of Lodz Voivodeship in the same year describe not only the scale of the development problems but also the aims of the land policy. Apart from the problems of the material sphere, the most crucial point at present is, as the research shows (Krystyna Rembowska), the problem of low territorial consciousness, (...) feeling of our own territorial distinction and our own territorial group – the problem of lack of identity. The paper suggests that the material evidence (architectural heritage) as well as the elements of the „founding myth” of the city and region should be used in a greater degree in the process of building the regional identity. Those two points would help present the role which the strategy of the Polish Kingdom government played in the years 1815 – 1830 in the beginning of the development of industrial Łódź – especially an ingenious plan of the Head of Mazowieckie Voivodeship Committee (Voivode) - Rajmund Rembieliński. The paper also includes the thesis that Rembieliński, while establishing a set of industrial cities and creating the conditions for their development, very accurately predicted the future structure of the set. As a „background” of the region capital he used the already existing „colonies”, which were being established from the Poniatowski’s period to the times of the Prussian annexation (1793-1807) as well as private industrial cities build in the times of the Duchy of Warsaw (Ozorków) and the beginnings of the Polish Kingdom (Aleksandrów Łódzki and Zduńska Wola). He made the right choice of the place for the region capital by localizing its center first in Zgierz (1820) and right after that (in the years 1823-25) in Łódź. The choice was much better than the one by the Prussian authorities which wanted to make Nowosolna a capital. A very rapid development of Zgierz confirmed the correctness of the decision. Yet it was seen even better in Łódź, where its founder equipped the city in an unmatched assets based on a well-thought-of strategy and a finessed work. Among the most essential ones we can mention: spatial form of the city organism which was strictly subjected to the production needs and territorial immensity of the areas designed specifically for industry with specially arranged cascade of Jasień river to receive important clients. Moreover we must mention the invitation of important industrialists of those times since the very establishment of the city and, last but not least, taking into consideration the production of cotton fabrics in the city development plan. The author also advances a thesis that Rembieliński, having noticed the beginnings of the industrial region as well as having localized and adapted a place of the greatest potential for becoming a central point of the region, managed to anticipate and put into practice the ideas set in the theory (established over one hundred years later) by Walter Christaller (Die Zentralen Orte in Suddeutschland, Iena 1933).

The article discusses the research of organizational culture at the retail sport outlet. Increasing consideration of the organizational culture as the key to success, not only in the literature but in practice as well, was the main reason such research was conducted. The aim of the study was to answer the following questions: what should be done to build employee-friendly organizational culture and whether it would contribute to the success of the company. The study was conducted based on competing values framework by K. Cameron and R. Quinn, within the group of employees of chain retail sport outlets. The existing and desired organizational culture was evaluated. As a result of this analysis good examples were identified, practices that should be ceased were indicated, and new ones were suggested.

The paper presents development of an experimental stand with centrally located specimen for the investigation of heating and drying processes in porous building materials. Additionally, the paper contains preliminary results of measurements which test and verify the assumed operation conditions of the stand. In order to control parameters of air which was used to heat and dry the specimen, the stand was operating in a closed loop and was equipped with several elements, i.e., the cooler (humidity condenser), fan with variable rotation speed, humidifier and heater. Moreover, the stand consisted of two square and parallel ducts with air streams which had identical parameters. This allowed for two measurements at the same time.
W artykule przedstawiono prace nad stanowiskiem doświadczalnym z centralnie umieszczoną próbką do badań procesu grzania i suszenia porowatych materiałów budowlanych. Dodatkowo w artykule zawarto wstępne wyniki pomiarów, które weryfikują zakładane warunki pracy stanowiska. W celu kontroli parametrów powietrza wykorzystywanego do podgrzewania i suszenia próbki, stanowisko pracowało w pętli zamkniętej i było wyposażone w kilka elementów, tj. chłodnicę (jednocześnie osuszacz powietrza), wentylator o zmiennej prędkości obrotowej, nawilżacz i nagrzewnicę. Aby uzyskać dwa strumienie powietrza o identycznych parametrach, pozwalające na wykonanie dwóch pomiarów w tym samym czasie i weryfikację powtarzalności proponowanej metody badawczej, układ składał się z dwóch kwadratowych i równoległych kanałów pomiarowych. Próbka została umieszczona w środku każdego kanału, co pozwoliło na wielowymiarowy transport ciepła i wilgoci wewnątrz próbki. W trakcie pomiarów zmierzono wilgotność w różnych położeniach i całkowitą wilgotność próbki, stosując odpowiednio system mierników rezystancji i siłomierza. Zmienność temperatury próbki mierzono kilkoma termoparami typu K i termografią w podczerwieni. Pomiary eksperymentalne przeprowadzono dla następujących zakresów prędkości powietrza, temperatury i wilgotności względnej: 0,1-10 m/s, 15o-60o i 10-90%. Podczas pomiarów rejestrowano i analizowano czasowe zmiany temperatury i wilgotności w kilku punktach próbki oraz zmiany całkowitej ilości wilgoci w próbce.

Besides centrifugal pumps, centrifugal fans are the most common turbomachines used in technical applications. They are commonly used in power engineering systems, such as heat engines and chillers, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, supply and exhaust air systems. They are also used as machines consuming final energy (electricity). Therefore, any improvement in their efficiency affects the efficiency of energy generation and the level of electricity consumption. Many efforts have been made so far to find the most efficient numerical method of modelling flows in fans. However, only a few publications focus on the unsteadiness that may have an impact on device efficiency and noise generation. This paper presents an attempt to identify unsteadiness in the flow through a centrifugal fan by means of computational fluid dynamics and computational aeroacoustics methods. The works were performed using the Ansys CFX commercial software and the results of numerical studies are compared with experimental data.

The Polish Fireball Network (PFN), has been undergoing continuous development. Since then, several large grants have been obtained, which were at least partly used for modernization purposes. In recent years, two more grants have been obtained, which allowed for the expansion and modification of the existing PFN infrastructure. In 2021, the PFN76 Kozienice was modernized, but also the PFN14 Zielona Góra station was reactivated and the new PFN77 Suhora station was launched in 2022. Thanks to these improvements, the tracking of meteoroids entering the Earth Atmosphere above Poland became more accurate, which facilitates the search for meteorites and increases the chances of finding new fresh meteorites in Poland. On the night of May 10, 2021, PFN stations registered an exceptionally slow bolide. The phenomenon named PF100521 Wykrot appeared over central Poland in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship at 21:32 UT and calculations showed that some meteorites may have fallen. This phenomenon was used to conduct a series of analyzes to show how observational uncertainties affect the final results. Two variants of the results are presented in this work.

Cosmogenic radionuclides in meteoroids are produced in space in the process of activation. These nuclides have various lifetimes in range from a few days to several hundred thousand years and can therefore be helpful in solving several problems related to the study of meteoroids and their remains, both in space and on the Earth. The simplest application of cosmogenic radionuclide decay in meteorites is to determine the terrestrial age of meteorites, especially those whose fall has not been observed. In this article, we present an additional application of cosmogenic radionuclide measurements, namely for the verification of origin of rocks that show equivocal features and may potentially represent meteorites.
