    Te article above is dedicated to the image of the priest as presented in Pope Benedict XVI homilies delivered by him on Good Tursday during the Krzyżma mass. Unlike his predecessor John Paul II Pope Benedict XVI usually did not write letters to priests on Good Tursday, which is the reason why this homily this should be considered to be the speech of the Vicar of Christ adressed to all priests. Te article is divided into two major parts. Te former refers to the identity, whereas the latter focuses on the mission, which is in line with the principle that our actions are the result of who we are. Te first part addresses two signifcant issues, which are: special belonging to God and conforming to Christ’s image. Te second part, on the other hand, tackles such issues as acting in persona Christi and representing people before God. Topics tackled, style, issues addressed, and langauge attest the author’s greatness and wisedom, and should be spread among people, since they provide a valuable lesson on the priest’s identity and mission, especially for the priests.
    Homilie wygłoszone przez papieża Benedykta XVI w Wielki Czwartek podczas Mszy Krzyżma, ukazują ważność i znaczenie Chrystusowego kapłaństwa. Papież doskonale ukazuje na czym polega tożsamość i misja. Osoba wyświęcona, staje się szczególną własnością Boga, oderwana od tego świata, aby trwać w sposób niezachwiany przed Nim. Kapłan staje się nie tyle sługą co raczej przyjacielem Jezusa, a Ten trwa zawsze przy tych, których powołał. Ta bliskość pozwala na działanie i przemawianie „in persona Christi” w imieniu samego Jezusa. Homilię są różnorodne, choć zawierają wspólne elementy. Papież zdecydowanie nawiązuje do tekstów Pisma Świętego, jak również do ojców Kościoła i historii, porusza również symbolikę. Homilię stanowią doskonałą inspirację dla księży, którzy chcą głębiej pojąć, jak wielkim darem obdarzył ich Bóg.

    Powyższy artykuł ukazuje bł. ks. Henryka Kaczorowskiego jako kapłana ufającego opatrzności Bożej. Jego życie pełne było trudnych doświadczeń, które tylko wzmacniały jego wiarę i ufność. Najtrudniejszym sprawdzianem był czas II wojny światowej, a zwłaszcza pobyt w obozie koncentracyjnym w Dachau, skąd został wywieziony do Harteim, gdzie najprawdopodobniej został zagazowany. Jest to wspaniały przykład człowieka, który w każdym doświadczeniu, nawet tym najtrudniejszym, doszukuje się zamysłu Bożego. Dlatego też w każdej okoliczności należy wykazać się postawą pełną ufności. Zwłaszcza księża, którzy borykają się z wieloma problemami, mogą wiele się nauczyć od bł. ks. Henryka, szczególnie że nie ma tak trudnej sytuacji z którą dzięki Bogu nie można sobie poradzić.
    The blessed priest Henryk Kaczorowski is shown as a priest trusting in Divine Providence in the above article. His life abounded with difficult experiences which strengthened his faith and trustfulness. The toughest test of his faith took place during the World War II, especially during his imprisonment in the Dachau concentration camp from where he was deported and probably gassed in Harteim. His life serves as a prime example of a man who tried to find Divine Providence in every single experience, regardless of how difficult it is. Thus, one should adopt a trusting approach under any circumstances. Especially priests facing numerous problems have much to learn from the blessed priest Kaczorowski, as there exists no situation with which one could not cope with God’s help.

    The present paper develops the concept of ethics as a reflection on the qualitative potential of financial activity. It suggests that the quantitative‑instrumental utility of financial categories, such as profit and loss, can be fully actualized exclusively in an appropriate qualitative‑autotelic surrounding – thus, it suggests that economic efficiency, far from being in an immanent tension with ethical justifiability, is actually its natural consequence. What is particularly emphasized in this context is the potential of entrepreneurial creativity with respect to transcending apparent moral dichotomies, such as self‑interest versus other‑interest or profitability versus philanthropy. Special emphasis is also placed on the fact that the so‑called knowledge‑based economy, a characteristic feature of the era of the information revolution, creates particularly favorable conditions for the development of the aforesaid entrepreneurial creativity and its ethical potential.

    The aim of the present paper is to investigate the logical relationship between the prevalence of specific macroeconomic theories and the ethical quality of practices that take place in the financial markets. The main thesis presented herein is that viewing the financial markets through an appropriate economic framework is a crucial prerequisite of maintaining their ethical foundations and harnessing their ethical potential. Three competing macroeconomic visions – the “animal spirits” theory, the efficient market hypothesis, and the causal-realist market process approach – are assessed with respect to their logically deducible effects on the ethical thinking of financial operators. The main conclusion of the paper is that the causal-realist approach provides the most satisfactory account of the inherent conceptual nature of financial markets, thereby furnishing the best guidance for the development of appropriate professional virtues by their key members.

    The paper presents research on selected functional properties of edible films as a new type of fast-dissolving biopolymerbased packaging for instant coffee. The film production consisted of preparing aqueous film-forming solutions with biopolymers such as apple and citrus pectin, sodium alginate and soy protein isolate. The solutions were poured and dried at 50°C for 24 h. Water content, solubility in water, color and opacity, water vapor permeability and mechanical properties of analyzed films were investigated. The obtained results showed different film properties of which citrus pectin turned out to show the most desired functional properties for instant coffee, including transparency, good sealability and solubility in water.
    W artykule przedstawiono badania wybranych właściwości użytkowych folii jadalnych jako nowego rodzaju szybko rozpuszczalnych biopolimerowych opakowań do kawy rozpuszczalnej. Produkcja folii polegała na przygotowaniu wodnych roztworów foliotwórczych z biopolimerami, takimi jak pektyna jabłkowa i cytrusowa, alginian sodu i izolat białka sojowego. Roztwory wylano i suszono w temperaturze 50°C przez 24 h. Zbadano zawartość wody, rozpuszczalność w wodzie, barwę i nieprzezroczystość, przenikalność pary wodnej oraz właściwości mechaniczne analizowanych folii. Uzyskane wyniki wykazały różne parametry folii. Pektyna cytrusowa wykazywała najbardziej pożądane właściwości użytkowe dla kawy rozpuszczalnej, w tym przezroczystość, dobrą zgrzewalność i rozpuszczalność w wodzie.

    Objective: The aim of this study was to establish recommendations for the use of lung ultrasound in internal medicine, based on reliable data and expert opinions. Methods: The bibliography from the databases (Pubmed, Medline, OVID, Embase) has been fully reviewed up to August 2017. Members of the expert group assessed the credibility of the literature data. Then, in three rounds, a discussion was held on individual recommendations (in accordance with the Delphi procedure) followed by secret voting. Results: Thirty-eight recommendations for the use of lung ultrasound in internal medicine were established as well as discussed and subjected to secret voting in three rounds. The first 31 recommendations concerned the use of ultrasound in the diagnosis of the following conditions: pneumothorax, pulmonary consolidation, pneumonia, atelectasis, pulmonary embolism, malignant neoplastic lesions, interstitial lung lesions, cardiogenic pulmonary edema, interstitial lung diseases with fibrosis, dyspnea, pleural pain and acute cough. Furthermore, seven additional statements were made regarding the technical conditions of lung ultrasound examination and the need for training in the basics of lung ultrasound in a group of doctors during their specialization programs and medical students. The panel of experts established a consensus on all 38 recommendations.
    Cel: Celem niniejszej pracy było ustalenie opartych na wiarygodnych danych i opiniach ekspertów zaleceń dotyczących zastosowania ultrasonografii płuc w chorobach wewnętrznych. Metody: Piśmiennictwo z baz danych (PubMed, Medline, OVID, Embase) zostało w całości poddane przeglądowi do sierpnia 2017 roku. Członkowie grupy ekspertów ocenili wiarygodność danych z piśmiennictwa. Następnie w trzech 3 turach przeprowadzono dyskusję na temat poszczególnych zaleceń (zgodnie z systemem Delphi) i przeprowadzono tajne głosowanie. Wyniki: Utworzono 38 zaleceń dotyczących zastosowania ultrasonografii płuc w chorobach wewnętrznych, zalecenia przedyskutowano oraz poddano tajnemu głosowaniu w trzech turach. Pierwsze 31 zaleceń dotyczyło ultrasonograficznych kryteriów rozpoznawania: odmy opłucnej, konsolidacji miąższu płucnego, zapalenia płuc, niedodmy, zatorowości płucnej, złośliwych zmian nowotworowych, zmian śródmiąższowych płuc, kardiogennego obrzęku płuc, śródmiąższowych chorób płuc przebiegających z włóknieniem płuc, duszności, bólów opłucnowych oraz ostrego kaszlu. Ponadto powstało siedem dodatkowych stwierdzeń, dotyczących technicznych warunków wykonania badania ultrasonograficznego płuc, a także potrzeby szkoleń w zakresie podstaw ultrasonografii płuc w grupie specjalizujących się lekarzy i studentów. Panel ekspertów ustalił konsensus dotyczący wszystkich 38 zaleceń.

    Green bonds are considered to be the next stage of market growth. This article looks at the benefits of green bonds and the positive impact they can have on the issuer and investors’ images as socially responsible entities. The authors present the evolution of the green bonds market and assess their observed and potential impact, taking into account public issues. They claim that green bonds are one of the easiest ways to attract investors and they potentially increase issuance size which in turn can contribute to lower costs of financing public tasks by local government.

    Celem artykułu jest określenie skuteczności popularnych algorytmów rozpoznawania twarzy w przypadku zdjęć o niskiej jakości. W trakcie pracy zostały opisane podstawowe algorytmy rozpoznawania twarzy takie jak LBPH, Eigenfaces i Fisherfaces. Do przeprowadzenia badań stworzono platformę badawczą wyposażona w oprogramowanie pozwalające testować dane i zbierać wyniki. Rezultaty badań pokazała, że jedynym algorytmem nadającym się do takich rozwiązań jest LBPH. Pozostałe natomiast nie uzyskały odpowiednio wysokiego współczynnika skuteczności.
    The goal of the article is to determine the effectiveness of popular face recognition algorithms for poor quality photos. Basic facial recognition algorithms such as LBPH, Eigenfaces and Fisherfaces were described during the work. A research platform equipped with software allowing to test data and collect results was created. The results of the research showed that the only algorithm suitable for such solutions is LBPH. The others, however, did not achieve a sufficiently high effectiveness factor.

    Phase change materials (PCMs) are widely used in numerous engineering fields because of their good heat storage properties and high latent heat of fusion. However, a big group of them has low thermal conductivity and diffusivity, which poses a problem when it comes to effective and relatively fast heat transfer and accumulation. Therefore, their use is limited to systems that do not need to be heated or cooled rapidly. That is why they are used as thermal energy storage systems in both large scale in power plants and smaller scale in residential facilities. Although, if PCMs are meant to play an important role in electronics cooling, heat dissipation, or temperature stabilization in places where the access to cooling water is limited, such as electric automotive industry or hybrid aviation, a number of modifications and improvements needs to be introduced. Investigation whether additional materials of better thermal properties will affect the thermal properties of PCM is therefore of a big interest. An example of such material is diamond powder, which is a popular additive used in abradants. Its thermal diffusivity and conductivity is significantly higher than for a pure PCM. The article presents the results of an analysis of the effect of diamond powder on thermal conductivity and diffusivity of phase change materials in the case of octadecane.

    This article presents 3 cases that highlight one of the factitious disorders named Munchausen Syndrome (MS). It is defined as intentional simulation or self-induction of disease symptoms to gain attention of others and to be perceived as an ill person. Early recognition of factitious disorders is a challenge for non-psychiatrists, as its clinical symptoms vary significantly among patients. In this paper we present three women with recurrent episodes of hypoglycemia, who were eventually diagnosed with MS. Our aims were to share the diagnostic clues that can suggest the presence of a factitious disorder, to highlight the analysis of patient’s medical history and to suggest the potential the ethical dilemmas involved in caring for such patients.

    The article is a commentary on the Code of Ethics of the Polish Historical Association published in March 2021. In the first part of the article, we critically discuss the Code using the metaphor of a “besieged fortress” and the categories of hierarchy and truth. In our view, by taking a defensive position, reproducing hierarchical relations within the community of historians and in relation to the public, and by placing the category of truth at the centre of the principles of the discipline, the authors of the Code do not respond to the contemporary challenges facing history. In the second part, we postulate the rebuilding of the Code on the basis of the categories of dialogue, polyphony and democracy, and we propose a number of amendments to its content.
