Theoretical background: The article presents the results of research on the relationship between the workplace and work-life balance experienced by employees. In the article, the workplace is understood as a physical space where employees are located. The first part of the article presents the results of the analysis of the literature on the subject related to the key issues. The subsequent part focuses on presenting the opinions collected by the authors during the empirical research conducted with the use of a questionnaire among professionally active people. The subject matter of the research was the workplace of the respondents in the context of work-life balance. The experiences of the respondents before and during the COVID-19 pandemic were analysed statistically.Purpose of the article: The aim of the article was to identify the relationship between work and private life experienced by employees during the COVID-19 pandemic.Research methods: The theoretical part of the article was created as a result of the analysis of the literature on the subject which was conducted in the period between December 2020 and April 2021. The empirical part of the article presents the results of a survey conducted with the use of a questionnaire, in which the people from a number of enterprises took part as respondents.Main findings: It was found that there is a relationship between the workplace and work-life balance experienced by employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. It should be emphasized that under the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ability to achieve work-life balance has become much more difficult.

The main purpose of this paper is description of the mechanisms governing the adsorption process of organic substances (such as polymers and dyes soluble in water) and inorganic substances (i.e. heavy metal ions) on the solid surface in the presence of synthetic surfactants of various ionic nature (anionic SDS, cationic CTAB and nonionic Triton X-100). The following polymers were applied: polyacrylamide, poly(ethylene glycol), poly(vinyl alcohol) and poly(acrylic acid). Moreover, the mono-, di- and triazo dyes with acidic, reactive and direct characters were used. Metal oxides – both simple (alumina, zirconia, titania) and mixed (double: silica-alumina, silica-titania and triple: alumina-silica-titania), as well as activated carbons obtained from biomass and peat were applied in the role of adsorbents. The effects of solution pH, ionic character of adsorbate, its molecular weight, elemental composition of the solid, its acid-base properties and textural structure, were determined. The understanding of the phenomena occuring at this type of interface is extremaly important for the effective control of colloidal suspensions stability, which is essential for practical applications. The formation of mixed adsorption layers composed of polymer-surfactant, dye-surfactant or polymer-surfactant-metal ion complexes results in many cases in a significant modification of the surface properties of solids, which is manifested not only by the changes in amount of bound adsorbate, but also by the changes in the structure of electrical double layer. The analysis of the obtained results indicated two main mechanisms of the surfactants influence on the adsorption process of organic and inorganic substances in colloidal systems containing a highly dispersed solid. The first one is the formation of polymer-surfactant, dye-surfactant or polymer-surfactant-metal complexes through both hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions, which show different affinity to the adsorbent surface. In most of the examined systems, these complexes were effectively bound at the solid-liquidinterface, which resulted in the adsorption increase of polymer, dye and heavy metal ions. The second important mechanism is the competition of surfactant molecules and other adsorbates for the active sites of the solid surface (the components of mixed adsorbates had the same ionic character). As a result of these two processes, mixed adsorption layers with a specific structure were formed, which determined the stability of the colloidal suspension.

The mixed $SiO_2$-$TiO_2$ oxide obtained by the pyrogenic method with the silica:titanium percentage ratio equal to 20:80 (ST80) was used in the experiments. The influence of azo dye C.I. Direct Yellow 142 (DY) adsorption at the mixed oxide-solution interface on the electrokinetic properties of solid particles was studied. To determine solid surface charge density and zeta potential of examined suspensions the potentiometric titration and Doppler laser electrophoresis techniques were applied. The changes in structure of electrical double layer formed on the mixed oxide surface in the dye presence were specified as a function of DY concentration, inorganic salt addition and surfactant introduction. The effects of surfactant type and its concentration were determined. Three surfactants of different ionic character (anionic SDS, cationic CTAB and nonionic Triton X-100) were used in measurements. The obtained electrokinetic characteristics of ST80 mixed oxide dispersed in aqueous solutions with various adsorbate compositions is essential for such suspensions stability.

The bioavailability of toxic heavy metalsfor organisms depends mainly on the soil physicochemical properties, i.e. type and granulometric composition, pH value, redox potential, individual fractions content and microorganisms presence. The addition of artificial fertilizers rich in humic substances or polyacrylamide soil flocculants may also affect the content of easily absorbed heavy metal forms. Due to their chelating properties, the added substances can bind metal ions in the form of complexes characterized by low mobility in soil environment. As a consequence, the immobilization process takes place, which is a desirable phenomenon for organism health.The aim of the study was to determine the structure of electrical double layer formed on the kaolinite surface in the mixed system of cationic polyacrylamide and lead(II) cations. The influence of cationic PAM presence on the Pb(II) ions sorption on the kaolinite surface as well as heavy metal ion addition on the polymer adsorbed amount on the same clay mineral were studied. The adsorption and electrokinetic properties of studied kaolinite/CT PAM/Pb(II) systems were determined based on the spectrophotometric study, zeta potential measurements as well as potentiometric titration.

Celem artykułu jest prezentacja badań opisujących działania rodziców związane z rozwijaniem zainteresowań i predyspozycji dzieci w wieku 5–12 lat w zakresie programowania. Badania przeprowadzono wśród rodziców, którzy podejmują działania na rzecz rozwijania zainteresowań programistycznych małych dzieci. Problemy badawcze koncentrują się wokół zagadnień dotyczących: motywów rodzinnych zabaw w kodowanie/programowanie, organizacji zabawy w kodowanie, sposobów doskonalenia kompetencji programistycznych rodziców i opinii rodziców na temat efektów tych zabaw. Przeprowadzone badania wskazują, że rodzice dostrzegają znaczenie i korzyści z podejmowanych przez siebie działań na rzecz rozwoju zainteresowań i umiejętności programistycznych, a także innych, wybranych umiejętności pozainformatycznych.
The aim of the article is to present the activities of parents related to the recognition and development of interests and IT abilities of 5–12 year old children. The research was conducted among 31 parents who actively help to develop programming interests of young children. The research problems focus on issues related to: family characteristics, the family’s motivation for engaging in coding / programming games, the organization of coding activities, the ways of improving parents’ programming competences and their opinions about the effects of these activities. The conducted research demonstrates that parents notice the importance and benefits of such activities for the development of interests and programming skills, as well as other non-IT skills.

Kształcenie zdalne w czasie pandemii COVID-19 stało się koniecznością, do której nie byli przygotowani ani nauczyciele, ani pozostali uczestnicy tego procesu. W nowych realiach tradycyjna dydaktyka okazała się nieskuteczna. Konieczna była zmiana modelu kształcenia z „dydaktyki przekazu i sprawdzania” na „dydaktykę relacji”. Doświadczenia praktyków próbujących w sposób innowacyjny podejmować kształcenie małych uczniów z wykorzystaniem Internetu są przedmiotem badań zaprezentowanych w opracowaniu. Wywiady z sześcioma nauczycielkami edukacji wczesnoszkolnej wskazują na pewne znaczące składniki, które konstruują nowy model pracy zdalnej skierowanej do najmłodszej grupy wiekowej uczniów. Podstawą tego modelu są relacje między nauczycielem a uczniami i ich rodzinami oraz relacje w grupie rówieśniczej. Nad nimi nadbudowana jest współpraca i budowanie wewnętrznej siły uczestników, a na szczycie znajduje się dydaktyka zdalna. Edukacja zdalna małych dzieci w wypowiedziach badanych zakłada ustalenie celów i zasad, docenianie i motywowanie, uczenie się wspólne i na błędach oraz włączanie w ten proces całego środowiska wychowawczego. Skonstruowany przez nauczycielki obraz edukacji zdalnej małych uczniów wskazuje, że w sytuacjach kryzysowych jest ona możliwa, ale wymaga uważności i dobrej komunikacji oraz troski o dobrostan fizyczny i psychiczny uczestników tego procesu.
Distance education during the COVID-19 pandemic became a necessity that neither teachers nor other participants in the process were prepared for. It was necessary to reframe the education model from “transferring and checking knowledge” to “teaching relations”. The experiences of practitioners attempting to educate young learners using the Internet are the subject of the explorations presented in this paper. Interviews with six early childhood education teachers indicated some significant components that reveal a new model of distance education aimed at the youngest age group. The base layer of this model is the relations between the teacher and students with their families, and peer group relations. Over this base layer is cooperation and building the internal power of the participants, complemented with the topmost component of remote teaching. In the statements of the respondents, distance education of young pupils implies setting goals and rules, appreciation and motivation, learning together and from mistakes, and involving the whole educational environment in the process. The picture of distance education of young pupils provided by the teachers indicates that it is possible in crisis situations but requires attention, good communication, and care for the physical and psychological well-being of the participants in the process.

The first self-assessments of nuclear security culture in a medical facility in Poland (2017–2018) have become the milestone for this small organization. It enabled the personnel to understand nuclear security culture and encouraged the managers to plan further improvements in nuclear security culture in the future. The research project titled “The Enhancement of Nuclear Security Culture in Medical Institutions Using Radioactive Sources and Materials” was conducted by Poznan University of Technology, with strong support from the IAEA. According to that project the first part of the article presents and explains the substance of the nuclear security culture, and also shows the differences between concepts of safety culture and security culture. The next part of the article presents objectives, describes the methodology as well as the results of work carried out as part of the research and development project. The content of the last part of the publication results from the author’s research experience, as well as lessons learned in the field of security culture.

Objectives The aims of this study were: to evaluate the prevalence of abdominal wall defects in the Polish population, to analyze temporal trends in the prevalence, to identify areas (clusters) of high risk of abdominal wall defects, and to characterize, with respect to epidemiology, children with abdominal wall defects and their mothers in the area defined as a cluster. Material and Methods We used isolated congenital malformations (gastroschisis Q79.3 and omphalocele Q79.2 according to the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th revision (ICD-10, the extended version)) data reported to the Polish Registry of Congenital Malformations (PRCM) over the years 1998– 2008 based on the population of 2 362 502 live births. We analyzed 11 administrative regions of Poland with complete epidemiologic data. Results Of 11 regions, 2 had a significantly higher standardized prevalence of isolated gastroschisis: Dolnośląskie (1.7/10 000 live births, p = 0.0052) and Śląskie (1.9/10 000 live births, p < 0.0001). Furthermore, within the region of Dolnośląskie, we defined a clear prevalence of the isolated gastroschisis cluster (p = 0.023). We comprehensively examined demographic and socio-economic risk factors for abdominal wall defects in this area, and we found that these factors failed to account for the cluster. Conclusions We identified a distinct prevalence cluster for isolated gastroschisis, although a precise reason for the disease clustering in this region remains unknown. Cluster identification enables more focused research aimed at identification of specific factors with teratogenic effects.

The objective of the study was to demonstrate how mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) can be used to determine the species origin of animal microtraces. The study included pieces of cat and dog hair without the root, a fragment of cooked chicken bone (0.1g), three goose down samples (0.028 g), a pork swab, a pork scratching (5×5×5 mm), and pork lard (0.22 g). DNA was isolated from all of these samples using the method appropriate for the particular source material. The extracts had DNA concentration exceeding 5.4 ng/µl with A260/280 purity range of 1.14-1.88. Next, the samples were subjected to PCR and real-time PCR with species-specific primers and primers complementary to mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). Control reactions based on the amplification of eukaryotic-specific fragment (18S rRNA) were additionally performed. PCR and real-time PCR products for detection of species-specific mtDNA were obtained for all templates, whereas during the detection of eukaryote DNA no product was obtained for dog and cat hair only. The poor quality of the obtained DNA did not prevent the analysis. The results showed that mitochondrial DNA is suitable for identification of small or highly processed samples, in which genomic DNA often cannot be analyzed.

The measurements concerning the process of the electroreduction of Bi(III) ions in the presence of 6–thioguanine (6TG) and Triton X-100 as well as Tween 80 in the 2 $mol·dm^{-3}$ chlorates(VII) demonstrate a dependence of the process rate on temperature. The applied electrochemical techniques (DC polarography, cyclic and SWV voltammetry) allowed to determine the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters as well as their correlation with changes in kinetics of the electrode process. The catalytic activity of 6TG was confirmed by the decrease of overall enthalpies of activation. Different values of $\DeltaH^{\ne}$ and $\DeltaS^0$ for Bi(III) electroreduction in the presence of 6–thioguanine as well as Triton X-100 and Tween 80 suggest changes in kinetics of the electrode process towards inhibition.

Opis:
A series of new synthetic carbonaceous adsorbents has been prepared via physical and chemical activation of residue of alcoholic fermentation of corn starch. Two different variants of thermal treatment procedure - microwave and conventional heating have been applied for preparing of the activated biocarbons. All the samples under investigation were characterised by elementary analysis, surface area measurements as well as determination of the number of surface functional groups. The electrokinetic properties of examined materials were studied using potentiometric titration and electrophoresis methods, which enabled determination of the surface charge density and zeta potential of activated biocarbon particles. Moreover, sorption properties of the carbonaceous materials towards two organic dyes - methylene blue and malachite green were tested. The final products were activated biocarbons of medium developed surface area ranging from 21 to 879 m2/g, showing acidic character of the surface and various content of surface functional groups. More favourable textural parameters as well as sorption properties toward both organic dyes were revealed by chemically activated samples. The obtained results indicated also considerable effect of adsorbed dye molecules on the structure of electrical double layer formed at the solid/liquid interface.

Opis:
The influence of a kind of support electrolyte on the ionic polyamino acids adsorption at the chromium (III) oxide – polymer solution interface was investigated. The NaCl and CaCl2 were used as the background electrolytes. In order to determine the effect of the electrolyte, the same value of ionic strength of the test solutions were taken. It was proved that formation of intermolecular and intramolecular complexes in the presence of divalent calcium ions is responsible for essential changes in polymer adsorption. Related to the ionic character of polyamino acid two different adsorption behaviours can be observed. The increase of the ASP adsorption amount in the presence of calcium ions may be explained by formation of complexes between the dissociated carboxylic groups and Ca2+ ions. The opposite situation takes place in the case of polylysine – the application of CaCl2 results in the dramatic decrease in the polymer adsorption caused by blocking the active sites available for LYS macromolecules. In order to make a comprehensive analysis, the zeta potential and surface charge density measurements were performed taking into account the kind of the background electrolyte. The above-mentioned tests were carried out in the absence and presence of the polyamino acid at two different concentrations – 10 and 100 ppm respectively.
