- Opis:
- Paula Wełyczko’s chapter The Maze of Foreignness. Excerpts from the Biography of Michel Foucault and Phenomenology of the Other by Bernhard Waldenfels by Paula Wełyczko makes an attempt to find events and experiences in the biography of the French philosopher that correspond to the theoretical assumptions of the contemporary German thinker. The main aim of the chapter is, therefore, an attempt to indicate the consistency between theoretical reflections on phenomenological understanding of estrangement proposed by Bernhard Waldenefelsa and the biographical narrative of alienation presented in anthropology. The author tries to present one of the possible answers to the question posed by Waldenfels, namely, how modern ethnology could examine issues related to the sense of alienation? Among the inspirations affecting the nature of the chapter the author refers to the understanding of social and cultural anthropology as a science aimed at inducing reflection on culture, referring not only to foreign and distant people and places, but also returns towards his own context. In addition, relying on biographical anthropological projects focusing on the analysis of “anthropological brotherhood perspective center on the person, intimate, close to the experience and diachronic”. The title labyrinth of solitude introduces the reader to the world of personal experience of Michel Foucault and his meetings with the awareness on the diversity and sense of self. The philosopher “wanted to understand everything that was associated with privacy and exclusion, he was also fascinated by the psychology of which is undoubtedly the result of his biography”. Passages cited in the chapter are taken from the biography of Michel Foucault written by Didier Eribon. So speculations about loneliness are embedded in human experience, rooted in specific places, times and moods. The descriptions are supplemented by the statements of Foucault offered in interviews and academic work Historie de la Sexualit and Historie de la Folie. The author seeks to show that Michel Foucault was experiencing a sense of alienation in his life, and those situations characterised by a lack of comfort influenced his scientific work like Historie de la sexualit .
