Opis:
The potential creating properties of a group of acidic chelating compounds are presented. The studies have been carried out by the constructing of new ion-selective electrodes based on PVC membranes doped with the studied compounds, and determining the basic analytical parameters of the electrodes. The usefulness of eight out of nine investigated compounds in the preparation of the membrane phase electrodes selective for cobalt, zinc and cadmium has been shown. It has been also found that the acidic properties of ionophore have an essential influence on the analytical parameters of the constructed electrodes. The response mechanism of the obtained electrodes has been investigated by simultaneous spectrophotometric-potentiometric measurement of membranes used in electrodes. It has been found that during the conditioning of electrode, a complex of active substance with primary ion is formed in the membrane phase, then the membrane composition is established and remains unchanged in the next measurements.

Opis:
Carbon nanomaterials have been very popular in the scientific community in recent years, because of their unusual physical and chemical properties. Their high electrocatalytic activity, very good electrical conductivity and mechanical resistance mean that scientists are constantly looking for new technological solutions to take advantage of the opportunities offered by nanomaterials in many areas of human activity. One of such area are potentiometric sensors. There are many publications in which scientists describe methods of construction, analytical parameters and practical applications of new sensors obtained using carbon nanomaterials, and often also describe methods of synthesis of new original nanomaterials. The purpose of this work was to characterize carbon-based nanomaterials and their application in the construction of ion-selective electrodes.

Opis:
This article aims to investigate in detail to what extent surfactants affect the determination of cadmium by anodic stripping voltammetry. In recent years, the production and use of surfactants have been steadily increasing, so that their concentration in environmental water samples is rising. At the same time, it is known that organic compounds, such as surfactants, often hinder the voltammetric determination of trace elements by stripping. Non-ionic (Triton X-100, Brij 35, Tween 20, Tween 60, Tween 80), cationic (CTAB, CTAC, DTAB, HPC) and anionic (DSS, SDS) compounds were selected to investigate the effect of surfactants on the voltammetric signal of cadmium. At the same time, the extent to which the addition of Amberlite resins to the analysed solution eliminates the interfering effect of surfactants was tested. Three types of Amberlite resins XAD-2, XAD-7 and XAD-16 were selected for the study and the ratio of resin weight to solution volume was determined. Finally, the determination of cadmium in surfactant-enriched environmental samples was carried out. The recoveries obtained between 95.5 and 107%, with RSD between 3.4 and 6.2%, confirm the validity and correctness of the proposed procedure All measurements were carried out by anodic stripping voltammetry using a CNTs/SGC electrode modified with a bismuth film as the working electrode.

Opis:
The extraction of total Cr(VI) from commercially available cements, based on DTPA + 0.2 mol dm-3 (NH4)2SO4/NH4OH mixture solution and subsequent selective determination of Cr(VI) has been proposed. The determination was carried out using the adsorptive voltammetric stripping method. The study was conducted using three different commercially available cement samples. It has been checked that the proposed extraction procedure guaranteed no changes of chromium speciation during cement analysis. For comparison extraction was also carried out with the use of recommended by United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 3060A, based on 0.28 mol dm-3 Na2CO3 + 0.5 mol dm-3 NaOH). Additionally, the extraction process was carried out using only distilled water as an extraction mixture which allows to evaluate concentration of only soluble Cr(VI) forms contained in cement. In all three cements, the content of soluble Cr(VI) was below 2 ppm, i.e. the limit value by European Union Directive 2003/53/EC.
