Opis:
The ponding on an inflated membrane tube is studied. Membrane tubes have the advantage of zero leakage and ease of transportation and set-up. A novel related problem is the membrane trough which can be used to contain water and does not need anchoring. These problems depend on two non-dimensional parameters which characterize membrane tension and pressure. Perturbation solutions to second order are found for shallow ponding, and compare well with those of exact numerical integration. Tables for the pertinent parameters are constructed and cross section geometries are found. This research illustrates the interaction of membrane structure, pressure load, and hydrostatics.

Opis:
Due to the characteristics of color vegetation canopy images which have multiple details and Gaussion noise interference, the adaptive mean filtering (AMF) algorithm is used to perform the denoising experiments on noised images in RGB and YUV color space. Based on the single color characteristics of color vegetation canopy images, a simplified AMF algorithm is proposed in this paper to shorten the overall running time of the denoising algorithm by simplifying the adaptive denoising processing of the component V, which contains less image details. Experimental results show that this method can effectively reduce the running time of the algorithm while maintaining a good denoising effect.

Opis:
The present paper focuses on the compression characteristics of granular wheat stored in silos. The confined uniaxial compression tests of wheat were performed to investigate the compression behaviour of granular wheat. The effects of different loading paths and different maximum loading levels on the compression index and elastic moduli were analysed. The compression curves for each specimen were obtained from the test results. It was observed that nearly 80% of the total deformation occurred in the virgin loading stage. The compression index and elastic moduli were determined, which indicates that both the parameter compression index and elastic moduli correlate with the loading path.

Opis:
A novel heterogeneous catalyst, Fe/Mn supported on NaY zeolite, was effectively applied for treating pulp mill effluents. The results of the wastewater quality analysis showed that aromatic structures were present in raw pulp mill effluents, which indicated the difficulty for biodegradation treatments. Two different catalysts were prepared by impregnation (Fe-Mn/NaYim) and sol-gel (Fe-Mn/NaYsg) methods, respectively. The Fe-Mn/NaYsg catalyst demonstrated higher COD removal efficiency and was more stable than the Fe-Mn/NaYim catalyst. The synergistic effects were found between Fe and Mn for COD removal. The highest COD removal efficiency (75.2%) was yielded with the Fe-Mn/NaYsg catalyst (Fe/Mn molar ratio of 2) with 4 mmol/dm3 of H2O2 and 1.2 g/dm3 of catalyst addition. A constant COD removal over time was obtained; the COD removal efficiency amounted to 45% after the Fe-Mn/NaYsg catalyst repeatedly degrading pulp mill effluents for five times. The distribution and transformation of the polarity and molecular weight (MW) of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the heterogeneous Fenton process were also studied. Experiments showed that the hydrophobic fraction comprised the largest fraction of DOC (60%) in raw wastewater and high MW molecules were transformed into low MW molecules after the heterogeneous Fenton process. This study broadened the application of the Fenton technology.

Opis:
Eucalyptus fibers were modified with N-β(aminoethyl)-γ-aminopropyl trimethoxy silane to research the fiber surface’s changes and the influence of the treatment on the mechanical properties, flame resistance, thermal conductivity and microstructure of eucalyptus fiber composite phenolic foams (EFCPFs). The results showed that the partial of hemicelluloses, waxes, lignin and impurities from the fiber surface were dissolved and removed. Compared with untreated EFCPFs, the mechanical properties of treated EFCPFs were increased dramatically; The size of cells was smaller and the distribution was more uniform; The thermal conductivities were basically reduced; Especially the ratio of mass loss decreased obviously. However limited oxygen indexs (LOIs) reduced. And the mechanical properties and LOIs of EFCPFs were basically decreased with the increase of eucalyptus fibers. By comprehensive analysis, the results showed that the interfacial compatibility has been significantly improved between eucalyptus fibers and phenolic resin. And the suitable dosage of eucalyptus fibers was about 5%.

Opis:
Wheat granular material stored in silos usually suffers shearing loads, which induces complex stress-strain response during the silo filling and discharging process. In order to guarantee the safe storage of these granular materials, it is necessary to investigate the shearing behaviour of wheat granular material in silos. In this paper, a series of triaxial tests were conducted on wheat granular material by using a modified double cell triaxial system. The stress-strain responses including the volumetric strain behaviour were examined considering the effect of the initial void ratio, confining pressure and shearing velocity. Different shearing states were discussed to obtain their strength parameters in various conditions. The results show that the shearing characteristics of wheat granular material are influenced by the shearing velocity. The friction angles increase with the decreasing void ratio at different states. The final volumetric strain decreases with increasing confining pressure, and the dilation is diminished. The dilatancy behaviour was quantitatively evaluated based on Row’s theory for wheat granular material. The stress-strain relationship of wheat granular material was then determined.

Opis:
In order to investigate the effect of granule shape on the giant magnetoresistance, assuming that granular films consist of ellipsoidal ferromagnetic granules embedded in a nonmagnetic metal matrix and the ellipsoidal granules have different demagnetizing factors in three directions, we combined two-current model with the effective medium theory to investigate the effect of granule shape on the giant magnetoresistance. The results revealed that the giant magnetoresistance in granular films depended strongly on the granule shape and was between those for current perpendicular to the plane of the layers and current in the plane of the layers in magnetic multilayers.

Opis:
This paper investigated the focal shift of partially coherent dark hollow Gaussian beams through a thin lens system. An analytic expression of the irradiance distribution of the focusing partially coherent dark hollow Gaussian beams in the back focal plane has been given by using the Collins formula. The focus shift of focused partially coherent dark hollow Gaussian beams in different parameters is studied in detail by numerical calculations. It is found that the absolute value of the focal shift of partially coherent dark hollow Gaussian beams decreases as the transverse coherence width or the order of the dark hollow Gaussian beams or a parameter of the dark hollow Gaussian beams increases.

Opis:
The improvements in thickness accuracy of a steel strip produced by a tandem cold-rolling mill are of substantial interest to the steel industry. In this paper, we designed a direct model-reference adaptive control (MRAC) scheme that exploits the natural level of excitation existing in the closed-loop with a dynamically constructed cascade-correlation neural network (CCNN) as a controller for cold rolling mill thickness control. Simulation results show that the combination of a such a direct MRAC scheme and the dynamically constructed CCNN significantly improves the thickness accuracy in the presence of disturbances and noise in comparison with to the conventional PID controllers.
