Opis:
Dodatkowo, artykuł raportuje wyniki badań sondażowych (ankiety) przeprowadzonej wśród 717 nauczycieli edukacji wczesnoszkolnej w Polsce, badających ich postawy i sposoby korzystania z audiobooków w pracy z uczniami.

Opis:
The paper was devoted to the issue of social functioning of Polish higher education institution students online. The internet is a social space, which offers opportunities for civic engagement, and online political activism; it can also be a place of interactions, such as social support, which lead to the improvement of individual mental well-being. The paper outlines some of the results of a study carried out as part of a State Agency for the Prevention of Alcohol-Related Problems project (40/3.4.3/19/DEA) in 2019 on a group of 4503 women and men, studying at Polish higher education institutions. The tool used to study the support was the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale, complemented by statements concerning online support. In order to investigate the phenomenon of social and civic engagement, the study used a scale of 14 statements, developed by Mateusz Marciniak. The results showed that the majority of the respondents (ca. 70%) never engaged in online fundraising campaigns, did not engage in political disputes online (more than 75%) and did not seek social support on the internet.

Opis:
New media are the tools that support human’s intellectual functioning. For many people with disabilities they may become the sole opportunity for accessing information, communicating, learning or working. On the other hand, new media also provide a space for social interactions that could affect the process of coping with critical events, both ordinary and traumatic ones. The key concept for the discussion is internet-based social support, defined as support available online to a person dealing with a critical event which needs to be overcome with external resources coming from virtual groups comprising people experiencing difficulties of a similar nature, in the past or currently. The author posed the question whether internet social support is ubiquitous, and what it manifests itself. To answer this, she conducted quantitative and qualitative research. The data collected then became thebasis for analysis and theoretical considerations.

In the paper we argue that school is a space for growing and developing digital activity of early education teachers. Based on an observational study and a literature review, we identified factors affecting such activity, i.e., individual features of teachers (competences, motivation, attitude towards self-development, lowliness, and willingness for change), their competence in handling electronic devices, technical equipment available at school, support from the school community along with clearly stated expectations (that the use of digital media is a must, not an option) and availability of trainings and places for exchanging experience and good practices.

Opis:
Research objectives: This study examines the role of digital skills in the personal and social development of young people. It aims to measure and understand these skills among the younger generation, while identifying ways to improve their development. Research methods: The data comes from the ySkills project under Horizon 2020, a longitudinal study conducted in six countries, including Estonia, Finland, Germany, Italy, Poland and Portugal. Specifically, we have analyzed data on Polish youth from 2021 and 2022. The sample includes 609 individuals aged 11 to 18, i.e. in the entire age range. Self-report scales assess digital skills, including technical abilities, information handling, interaction, communication and content creation. Results from the entire first wave in Poland (N=1161) are also included. Context: In today’s digital world, digital skills are essential for personal development and social engagement. This study focuses on Poland, where digital literacy is crucial for young people. It aims to shed light on the digital competences of Polish youth. Findings: The study found that teenagers use the Internet mainly for social interaction and are comfortable using digital communication tools, such as email, instant messaging and social media. However, it stresses the need for further education in evaluating information available on the Internet and identifying reliable sources. Gender differences were observed, with boys demonstrating greater skills in navigating and processing information, which highlights the need for additional research to address gender disparities in digital skills. Conclusions and Recommendations: This study highlights the importance of digital skills for young people’s development and integration into society. To bridge the digital literacy gap, we recommend targeted educational interventions that improve critical thinking and source evaluation skills. Further research and objective assessments are key to comprehensively eliminating the gender gap in digital skills. It is important to be aware of the limitations of the study, including the reliance on self-reporting and the potential impact of COVID-19 on the sample. Future efforts should aim for more robust and objective means of assessing digital skills among young people in Poland.

The increased time spent using the Internet and smartphones is prevalent primarily among adolescents. This group is currently of particular interest to media educators and psychologists studying the impact of ICTs on quality of life. An example of the negative changes associated with the intensive computerisation of various spaces is the uncontrolled and inadequate use of the Internet, referred to as problematic Internet use (PUI). This text contributes to the discussion on the extent of PUI among adolescents (12–16 years) in the Czech Republic (N=1555), Poland (N=501), and Slovakia (N=478). Based on the collected data, it was found that: 1) Polish and Czech adolescents are similar in terms of the intensity of PUI symptoms (adolescents from Slovakia are characterised by lower levels of PUI); 2) The vast majority of young people do not exceed PUI thresholds that could be considered alarming; 3) Lack of sleep or neglecting meals in favour of Internet use are the least frequent factors in the study group; 4) Most often adolescents declare that they are bored when they do not have access to the Internet; 5) Adolescents are a nonhomogeneous group in terms of the intensity of occurrence of PUI traits, but only 0.3% of adolescents in the Czech Republic and 0.4% in Poland had all 6 PUI factors present in maximum intensity.

Opis:
Alcohol drinking is often connected to serious long and short term health and social consequences. It is particularly true in the case of young people. One of the groups at risk are university students who are influenced by many psychosocial factors that may support risky alcohol consumption. The article presents selected results of the research project exploring alcohol consumption and problems related to alcohol drinking among students of Polish universities. The representative sample of Polish university students (third year) (N = 4503) took part in the survey covering alcohol drinking and factors such as depression, identity style, health behaviours, social engagement and selected socio-demographical variables. The results confirm a serious prevalence of problems related to alcohol drinking. According to results of AUDIT-C test (measuring risky alcohol drinking) 9% of the sample reach 8 points and more (that is twice the norm for males – 4 points). Those results are confirmed by data obtained through RAPS-4 test. It shows that one in ten student reaches 3 or 4 points (as indicator of risky alcohol drinking). Additionally, a substantial percentage of students experience short term consequences connected to alcohol drinking such as problems with police or being a victim of theft.

Opis:
As different areas of life and an individual’s life roles undergo transformation and intermingle increasingly, the ways that people get married and start up families change as well. A dual-career marriage is a modern family model, within which both spouses realize, on the one hand, broadly defined professional careers under conditions of competitive job market and competitive forms of employment, often occupying managerial positions; and life careers on the other hand, those related to family, marital roles, housekeeping and earning the livelihood. As compared with traditional models and egalitarian partnerships, a dual-career marriage involves more sacrifices and threats, but can also provide many benefits. In the study it was attempted to make inquiries in that matter, rooted in our wish to examine this specific link between dual-career couples and a subjective sense of partners’ quality of life, particularly in the aspect of its meaning – as compared with that of spouses in traditional marriages and egalitarian partnerships. Then a more detailed purpose of this study was to verify whether satisfaction with one’s own achievements in partners of a dual-career marriage, both in their professional and extraprofessional life, together with the level of experienced stress are possible significant factors influencing the relation between role conflict and a reported level of sense of purpose in life. The study was conducted during 2013-2014 and involved examining a total of 150 couples in dual-career marriages (300 participants), i.e. relationships within which both partners realized their professional career in the competitive job market, oftentimes they occupied managerial posts and reconciled professional life with the role of a parent. All investigated participants in dualcareer relationships had higher education, their age varied from 28 to 40 years and each marriage had at least 1 child. The control group was composed of 160 egalitarian partnerships and 135 traditional marriages. In order to verify the research questions and hypotheses stated above, four diagnostic tools were used: Purpose in Life test, “Work-Life Balance” Questionnaire, Stress Level Questionnaire and Sense of Happiness Questionnaire. The analysis of empirical material presented that partners in dual-career relationships reported the highest level of experienced stress, fatigue, tension and role conflict, but also the highest levels of satisfaction with one’s achievements or the family’s financial situation – factors which can neutralize the negative impact of experienced stress and conflicts on the general sense of life meaning. Also presented that experiencing role conflicts is negatively correlated with a general sense of purpose in life and with satisfaction with one’s accomplishments, at the same time being positively correlated with experienced stress. It can be noticed, however, that in the calculated model a (high) level of satisfaction with one’s achievements acts as a specific buffer against the influence of experienced role conflict and stress.
