Opis:
The main issue of the article is the process of ideologization of the discourse on modern art. The author analyses media statements following the burning down of Julita Wójcik’s art installation “Tęcza” in Warsaw. The dispute mentioned did not focus on the aesthetic judgements, but on the symbolic value of the work. Built to symbolize the tolerance for homosexuals, the installation prompted intense aggression (both physical and verbal) among representatives of the extreme right. The author juxtaposes statements coming from both sides of the conflict. What merits particular attention here is the strategy of hybridization of discourses that are mutually exclusive (discourse of tolerance and discourse of exclusion). It aims at devaluing the discourse of tolerance and “softening” the negative image of the discourse of exclusion.

The author assumes that in the present period of methodological pluralism typical of the humanities, there is a need for a renewed analysis of scientific output of traditional branches (stylistics) which - influenced by new branches (linguistic theory of kinds) - enrich the area of their scientific observation. The author tries to situate the two basic categories of linguistic branches: style and speech kind and wonders why those notions are inaccurate. The problem needs to be considered on three levels:--mutual relations between linguistic stylistics and theory of kinds;-establishing the common points in the sphere of style and kind indicating the possible terminological differences;-outlining the research perspectives of both branches, and the benefits resulting from the use of the notions discussed in the paper.There are different research attitudes presented in the article, in which incorporation of stylistics into textual linguistics, autonomous development of both branches and building interdisciplinary stylistics are postulated. The author treats both branches as independent and complemantary ones.In the article attention is paid to the fact that definitions of style and kind reveal many similarities under the condition that both terms are situated in the sphere of abstraction (they designate the notion of model, type). However, one can find differences while observing the plane of analyses of particular utterances. Introduction of the element of subjectivity (individuality) to definition of the style of utterance that the notion of kind is deprived of is postulated. Both categories, though often not identical in meaning, are acknowledged as indispensable in textual analysis. The notion of kind is permanently incorporated into stylistic research. Style, though constantly connected with kind, as a much wider category should preserve its individual character and methodological attractiveness.

The author looks for the exponents of conversational styles: the feminine and the ma[1]sculine ones in the texts of contemporary Polish prose. She finds the examples in which the stereotype of distinction between speaking pattems is referred to. The article exposes the tendency to modify the traditional paradigms of the sexes by means of the interchange of certain "typical" features of masculinity and femininity. The writer also observes the crystallisation of a new style, which is defined as an[1]drogynous. The differentiation and mixture of the features characteristic for each of the sexes separately typify this style. The interlocutor who is equipped with androgynous styllistic competence makes choices according to the communicative needs and his own abi[1]lities. "Freedom" of the choi ce that is made regardless of the genre affinity guarantees a better understanding between the speakers. ......... affinity guarantees a better understanding between the speakers.

The author presents the analysis of a feminist discourse from the perspective of contemporary stylistics. The discourse is treated, according to the M. Foucault’s concept, as a type of communicative practice, institutionally and culturally conditioned. The writer emphasizes that in the description of style, the cultural context and the place of feminist discourse in relation to other varieties of communication have to be considered. A feminist discourse is an open category that is dispersed and expansive, with numerous sub varieties, which decide about its dynamics and multiplicity of styles. The author differentiates between a women’s discourse and a feminist discourse. The indicator of that difference is the attitude of the subject. In a feminist discourse the subject is deeply involved ideologically. The presented description of the style includes: the selection of the expression genres, viewpoints of the subject, the vision of the world, various profiles of a woman and femininity, characteristic range of values (difference, openness, body, maternity, care...), their contextual valorization and the complex of metaphors. In conclusion the author states that the characteristics of a feminine discourse are not linguistic features but the sphere of values, ideology, attitudes and strategies of the subject.

The author is interested in the presence of the traditional features of style (verbal figures) in contemporary stylistics – theory, teaching, and interpretations. The author primarily focuses on the epithet; notes that only in teaching the science of stylistics refer to traditional verbal figures. In the theory of contemporary stylistics, style is understood broadly – as a cultural category, and its characteristics are sought in the semantics of words and their cultural connotations. The word epithet, however, is used in the media and in the colloquial sense in a different meaning from the traditional one. It is  synonymous with verbal abuse and is used to insult or humiliate someone. Most often, it occurs in conjunction with the adjective “abusive” (derogatory epithets). The author concludes that while epithet was formerly considered an element of high style and decorative, today it is considered stylistically inferior.

The author is looking for traces of subjectivity in the scientific texts of an eminent Polish linguist. As the determinants of individual style, she recognizes certificates of reading (not only what the author reads but also how he reads), recognizing that the figures of the intertextual relationship (references, quotations, allusions, polemics) allows one to define the personality of the subject. She is interested in the plane of reflection, which manifests itself in the attitude of the scholar to the values of contemporary culture, to the change in the ideals of science, to the place and tasks of the choices of humanists and scholars (methodology, issues, forms of expression). She also finds features of individuality in the preferences of the author in the structure of his speech – composition, construction, syntax, lexis.

Autorka przeprowadza porządkujące rozróżnienia, wydzielając instytucjonalne dyskursy o wykluczeniu oraz ideologiczne: dyskurs wykluczenia i dyskursy wykluczonych. Podkreśla, że pojęcie wykluczenia jest w ramach każdego wyróżnionego typu inaczej profilowane. W artykule relacjonuje się dyskurs wykluczenia i dyskursy wykluczonych, wskazując istniejące między nimi podobieństwa i różnice. Omawianymi wyznacznikami dyskursu są: tożsamości aktorów społecznych, przedmiot dyskursu oraz obraz relacji społecznych projektowany przez reguły dyskursu. Do analizy wprowadzono jeszcze trzecią kategorię – dyskursu tolerancji (równościowego), traktowanego jako model (idealny wzór), który byłby punktem odniesienia dla omawianych odmian. W ten sposób dyskurs wykluczenia umieszczony został na przeciwnym biegunie dyskursu tolerancji, a zróżnicowane dyskursy wykluczonych (w artykule omawia się przykładowo teksty mieszczące się w ramach dyskursu feministycznego i dyskursu radiomaryjnego) mogą być sytuowane na skali między dwoma wskazanymi biegunami.

The author adopts a broad definition of an artifact as an artificial creation that is created by man. Real and virtual objects, both artistic and utilitarian, are housed in the collection. This article aims to identify some trends, which are often contradictory, in the relationship between people and things that crystallized in the era of postmodern consumerism. These trends do not fall within the mainstream. Generally speaking, they are an expression of social discord on the destruction of items. The author addresses several topics: a) the inclination to save things that can be observed in contemporary literature. Images of trash, abandoned industrial sites and landfills of civilization induce nostalgia for the styles of the past. They are also a part of the identity of the individual; b) recycling and the recovery of specific things, which is visible both in the Internet space (also in the area of net-art) as well as in real life. This is an indication that in a civilization of overproduction, the repeated use of things may be a cultural pattern; c) as a result, the “de-aestheticization of art” and “aestheticization of everyday life” has blurred the line between art and utility and is the cause of the semantic and axiological instability of things. Differences in the perception of artifacts can result in serious conflicts that sometimes arise in the public space.
