Opis:
This article evokes the main arguments put forth by Polish theater scholars with regard to dramatic dialogue and its distinctive features. The author foregrounds the value of Sławomir Świontek’s research: although dating from thirty years ago and rarely discussed, today his findings invite us to resume theoretical considerations on dialogue and to seek new methodological tools. Drawing on Świontek’s observations, the author proposes to look at dramatic dialogue from the perspective of speech acts: locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary. He focuses on the illocutionary potential of dialogue, which is linked to how the text is to be performed and helps to bring out meanings and emotions that are not revealed in silent reading. He emphasizes that a multifaceted analysis of the illocutionary potential of dialogue can lead to determining the felicity conditions for drama performance. The author postulates the interdisciplinarity of this kind of research, as the synergy of multiple perspectives – cultural, anthropological, linguistic, theatrological, and philosophical – can help deepen and systematize knowledge about genre transformations in drama and their link to the changing communication principles and techniques.

origin of Greek tragedy
Opis:
Greek tragedy, as an expression shaped in the course of a performance, requires not only extending the field of investigation to include extra-philosophical interpretations, but also searching for its sources within the framework of the Greek thinking, described most profundly by Aristotle. The tradition of the Aristotle is inducing us to the reply to numerous questions, concerning Dionysus, as well as composition of the tragedy. Adopting his intellectual perspective provokes us to seek the genesis of tragedy in Greek logos. Apart of being a language (it referred to the notional structure of the Greek universe, defined the way of thinking, and provide a set or rules regarding presentation) it was also an order organizing the sense of action. It combined with doing, provokes action and constituted a reflection of the gestures made on stage.

Opis:
The concept of a performative body is rooted in two traditions. The first tradition concerns actions, and therefore, it is wide-ranging (because it includes diverse social acts). The second tradition is narrow – it is closely linked to the effectiveness of actions and allows one to distinguish between reversible actions (the effects of which can be reversed) and irreversible ones (the effects of which are permanent). Both of these understandings, which were popularized, or developed, by John Loxley and John Austin, have become a source of reflection for researchers such as Shaun Gallagher, Donald Davidson and Jennifer Hornsby, among others. Their works encourage deeper thought on the properties of action itself and also make it possible to overcome Austin’s reductionism and describe (based on inspiration from Karl Raimund Popper’s work) the three main levels of a body’s performativity: the physical, emotive, and cognitive level.

KOR – Workers’ Defense Committee

performance
Opis:
The article is an attempt at characterizing the connections between KOR (the Workers’ Defense Committee, established by a group of Polish oppositionists in June 1976) and theatrical practice. Theatrical references are mentioned together with the prevailing literary –regerences in two areas: biographical (the founders of the movement were writers, poets, songwriters, and actors) and ideological. The biographical area also serves as an introduction to the other perspective which can be referred to as ideological. The theatre became a breeding ground for thoughts defying the communist reality. It was a meeting place for the broadly defined opposition, a cradle of ideas hostile to the system based on “workers and peasants” and the alliance with the Soviet Union. The resulting works included politicized performances of the classics as well as performances presented by alterative groups: Teatr Ósmego Dnia: Teatr 77, Jedynka, Provisorium and Teatr Stu. KOR’s activity from 1976 to the beginning of martial law introduced on 13 December 1981 clearly shows that the links between the revolutionary movement and the theater were an important feature of dissident activity and helped to reinforce and popularize its ideological values.

meta-narration
Opis:
The article is an attempt to analyze the works of Ive Tabar – one of the most interesting Slovenian artists (relatively little known) working on the borderline of body art and performance art. On the one hand, Tabar’s works refer to loud experiments – undertaken on the basis of body art in 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. On the other hand, they are seeking their own language and new communication strategies with the viewers. Tabar’s works are both personal acts and political declarations (regarding the future of Slovenia). In this sense, they can be understood as a return to the concept (that had been developed in Europe and America in the second half of the twentieth century) of engaging art for public activity. Tabar uses this tradition in its own and unique way. He creates metanarratives works that combine the poetics of political and social protest with a radical body art-style experiment. He shows the way how art can contribute a political life.Key words: Slovenian performance, Ive Tabar, body art, performing arts.

Opis:
The article is an attempt to answer the question: what happens to a literary work – understood as Ingarden’s purely intentional objects – from the recipient’s perspective? And also: how do the images of objects arise in the minds of the audience and what are their properties? Transferring purely intentional objects to the recipient’s perspective changes their status: mental images of objects are subject to numerous fluctuations (based on emotions and cognitive processes). In this way they are transformed into forms that are non-permanent reflections of objects belonging to a literary work. Referring to Ingarden’s terminology, one might say that they become purely intentional reflections (or reflections of purely intentional objects). The article is an attempt to characterize and stratify them.

Opis:
The concept of existence is rooted in (at least) two traditions: philosophical and literary theory. This does not mean, however, that it means the same for both fields. The first tradition is wide ranging because it includes diverse – physical, emotional and spiritual (as well as intellectual) – aspects of being. The second tradition is narrow and it closely refers to literary output. Literary existence – which is based on physical reality – is permanently separated from it. Literature refers to the representation and imagination of the world, not to the empirical experience of physical reality. In addition, literature does not apply the categories of truth and falsehood that we know from social reality (because literary existence stands, beyond the assertion). It is also imprisoned in genology – inscribed in the genre. Literary existence has more to do with poetry, style, artistic convention than what philosophers are examining. Sometimes great literary works deal with great philosophical problems, but sometimes do not and it do not detract from their artistic nature. Both of these tradition – literary and philosophical – however, have many common places, require careful study and analysis. The article is an attempt to show these places and characterize their features.

Opis:
The article is an attempt to describe the conditions in which the body assumes the role of a prop – it becomes an object organizing individual and social life. For such a process to take place, it is necessary to disconnect the body from the Self. It comes with his death. Funeral practices that change the social status of the body can take a monistic or dualistic form. The former make the body a relic and are based on the belief that soma is connected with its spiritual essence. The latter, on the contrary, points to the impermanence of such a connection. In this way, the body becomes a prop, an object, an object, and a tool for funeral performances.
