Opis:
Fish caught in the Włocławek Dam Reservoir during the years 1982-83 in April, July and August were parasitologically, anatomopathologically and histopathologically examined (cf. tab. 1). For histopathological examination fresh and stained permanent slides whenever necessary were made. In the studied fish parasitic protozoans (Flagellata, Sporozoa and Ciliata) as well as metazoans (flukes, tapeworms, nematods, crustaceans and, sporadically, molluscan glochidia) were found to occur. Within the first group the most important with respect to the extensity, and in some months also the intensity of infection were the Sporozoa of the genus Pleistophora (Microspora), then Myxobolus mülleri (Cnidosporidia) and Rhabdospora thelohani, within the second group - metacercariae of Diplostomum spathaceum and Tylodelphys clavatum. The parasite fauna of the bream and roach does not show any significant qualitative or quantitative differences, while in the parasite fauna of the pike perch - beside the parasites typical of this species - the parasites found also in the bream and roach i.e. in the cyprinids, dominate both qualitatively and quantitatively. Beside specific changes, characteristic of the infection with the parasitic metazoans, a higher intensity of invasion, especially in the case of Sporozoa, is accompanied by pathomorphological changes such as tissue damage, necrosis, blood supply disturbance swelling, inflammatoiry reaction with cell infiltrations and general emaciation. Such changes were not found in the great part of the fish stock, with a low intensity of infection.

Opis:
A study was carried out in a shallow, eutrophic Oświn Lake, within Seven Islands Reserve (north-eastern Poland), in order to determine the infection of fish with monogeneans as sensitive indicators of water quality. This paper presents comparative analysis of the occurrence of Monogenea in fishes from two, distinctly separated pools of the lake, differing in environmental conditions. The impact of fish size and sampling season on the infection parameters was also analyzed. Material and methods. In 1998 and 1999, a total of 1091 fish representing 8 dominant species were examined. Samples were collected four times a year (in May, July, August, and October) simultaneously from the eastern and western parts of the lake. Results. 16 species of Monogenea (and some unidentified specimeus) occurred in the fish examined, most of them from the Dactylogyridae family: Dactylogyrus sphyrna, D. auriculatus, D. intermedius, D. anchoratus, D. falcatus, D. tincae, D. wunderi, D. zandti, D. difformis, D. nanus, D. distinguendus, D. crucifer, D. caballeroi. Furthermore, Tetraonchus monenteron (Tetraonchidae), Gyrodactylus elegans (Gyrodactylidae), and Paradiplozoon megan (Diplozoidae) were detected. Monogenea occurred abundantly on the gills of pike, roach, rudd, white bream, carp bream and crucian carp, but rather sporadically in tench and perch. The highest species variety and diversity of monogenean guilds were detected in carp bream and roach. It was proved that D. crucifer and D. difformis were significantly more abundant in the western pool compared to the eastern one. Infection of fish with Dactylogyridae was season-dependent, contrary to the infection of pike with T. monenteron. Intensity of infection of white bream with D. sphyrna and roach with D. crucifer increased with fish body length; such a relationship did not appear for the other monogeneans and their hosts. Conclusion. Presence of common Monogenea in the fish examined, lack of rare species, poor diversity of monogenean guilds and relatively low infection rate could be connected with the low stability of the lake environment. Location-dependent occurrence of D. crucifer and D. difformis indicated that the exchange between fish groups from the eastern and western parts of the lake is limited.

Opis:
Crayfish accumulate trace metals, which is why they often serve as environmental indicators. Among heavy metals, Hg, Cd and Pb are considered toxic substances, while Fe, Zn, Cu, Cr, Ni, Mn, V, Al and Li are involved in vital functions, which makes them essential elements in animal organisms. The study objective was to determine concentrations of the above metals in the abdominal muscles, hepatopancreas and exoskeleton of spinycheek crayfish (Orconectes limosus Raff.) and signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus Dana) from Dga³ Wielki Lake and Pob³êdzie Lake in the Mazurian Lake District, Poland. The analyses were carried out with the use of the following methods: CV AAS (Hg), GF AAS (Cd, Pb) and ICP-AES (Al, Cr, Cu, Fe, Li, Mn, Ni, V, Zn) after wet digestion in HNO3 and HClO4 concentrated acid mixture. Regarding mean concentrations (mg kg-1 wet weight) in crayfish, metals formed the following order: Al (14.8-123.4) > Mn (0.26-91.3) > Fe (0.54-81.1) > Zn (6.80-51.91) > Cu (1.21-4.34) > Ni (0-0.782) > Cr (0.032-0.606) > V (0-0.245) > Li (0.011-0.215) > Pb (0.018- 0.079) > Hg (0.004-0.045) > Cd (0.001-0.017).Metal concentrations in crayfish organs were varied, and for different metals they decreased in different order: Al, Mn, Cu, Ni, Cr, V and Li – exoskeleton > hepatopancreas > muscles; Zn and Hg – hepatopancreas > muscles > exoskeleton; Fe – hepatopancreas > exoskeleton > muscles, while for lead and cadmium no overall correlation was observed. The comparison of metal concentrations in the organs of spinycheek crayfish from Dga³ Wielki Lake and Pob³êdzie Lake did not prove any statistically significant discrepancies. Also, some minor interspecies differences in the metal content proved insignificant. According to the European Union regulations, concentrations of toxic heavy metals (Hg, Cd, Pb) in the muscles of both species of the tested crayfish were significantly below the maximum levels.
