Six hybrid N-ureidoethylamides of octapeptides in which an N-terminal cyclic structure related to enkephalin was elongated by a C-terminal fragment of deltorphin were synthesized on MBHA resin. The synthetic procedure involved deprotection of Boc groups with HCl/dioxane and cleavage of the peptide resin with 45 % TFA in DCM. d-Lys and d-Orn were incorporated in position 2, and Lys, Orn, Dab, or Dap in position 5. The side chains of the dibasic amino function were protected with the Fmoc group. This protection was removed by treatment with 55 % piperidine in DMF, and cyclization was achieved by treatment with bis-(4-nitrophenyl)carbonate. Using various combinations of dibasic amino acids, peptides containing a 17-, 18-, 19- or 20-membered ring structure were obtained. The peptides were tested in the guinea-pig ileum (GPI) and mouse vas deferens (MVD) assays. Diverse opioid activities were observed, depending on the size of the ring. Extension of the enkephalin sequence at the C-terminus by a deltorphin fragment resulted in a change of receptor selectivity in favor of the δ receptor. The conformational propensities of selected peptides were determined using the EDMC method in conjunction with data derived from NMR experiments carried out in water. This approach allowed proper examination of the dynamical behavior of these small peptides. The results were compared with those obtained earlier with corresponding N-(ureidoethyl)pentapeptide amides.

Speciation, the formation of species, is a central problem in evolutionary biology. The genetic basis and evolution of reproductive isolation between taxa is a key for understanding speciation. The house mouse Mus musculus is an excellent model for the study of reproductive isolation. Two subspecies, M. m. musculus and M. m. domesticus that diverged from each other approximately between 1,000,000-350,000 years ago, form a narrow hybrid zone that extends across Europe. The standard chromosome complement of this species consists of 40 acrocentric chromosomes. However, in M. m. domesticus there are many local karyotypic races that are characterised by different sets of acrocentrics and metacentrics. Accumulation of chromosomal rearrangements may lead to reproductive isolation between populations. The first theoretical model of this process was postulated by Dobzhansky (1937) and Muller (1942). They expressed the idea that speciation is a by-product of independent divergence between populations. The hybrid zone between sister mouse taxa can be used to identify genomic regions underlying reproductive isolation. Variation in the degree of gene flow across the hybrid zone is measured using molecular markers. Thus, mice offer a unique opportunity to study relationships between genotype and phenotype.

Celem artykułu jest analiza porównawcza bibliotek Angular2 z Ember.js. Na potrzeby testów została opracowana specjalna aplikacja internetowa. W świetle kryteriów porównawczych analizie poddano: szybkość generowania strony, wyświetlanie dużej liczby danych, obsługa multimediów, mechanizmy zabezpieczeń, dostępność dokumentacji, obsługę różnych formatów danych, integrację z portalami społecznościowymi. Ponadto celem jest również prezentacja cech wspólnych oraz różnic obu bibliotek.
The focus of this article is the comparative analysis of the usage of the Angular2 and Ember.js frameworks. The requirement for tests of these frameworks has been developed though special web applications. The analysis was performed with the following comparative criteria: the speed of the website generation, presentation of large amount of data, media services, security mechanism, documentation availability, different data format handling, and integration with social media. Also, this paper aims to present common features and differences between the two frameworks regarding their characteristic features.

In the years 1795-1918 the Polish territory was occupied by Austria, Prussia and Russia. Two scientific institutions in Austrian annexed land (Galicia): Academy of Arts and Sciences (founded in 1873) and Cracow University, tended to protect Polish scientists, particularly in Russia. One of them was Julian Talko-Hryncewicz (1850–1936). He studied medicine in St. Petersburg and Kiev (Russia) and anthropology in Paris. As practicing doctor he started to carry out archaeological and anthropological studies on Scythians on the left side of the Dnieper river. In the years 1892–1907 Talko-Hryncewicz was continuing his studies on Siberian nations, forming in Troitskochavsk a center of scientific studies. Their results he was publishing in Russian periodicals and in the publications of the Academy of Arts and Sciences in Cracow. In the years 1908–1936 Talko-Hryncewicz was professor of anthropology of the Jagellonian University, forming a center of studies on the population and country-folk of Cracow and the Carpathians. They are documented by several monographs (as e.g. Contemporaneous Cracovians. Anthropologic study, 1927) and in his memoirs. Higher schools of Austrian annexed land (in Lvov and Cracow) were employing numerous Poles, carrying out scientific investigations in Russia annexed land and in Russia. Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences was protecting them morally and materially, particularly by publishing their papers and by buying exhibition goods for its museums.

Strong emotions are among others manifested in the expressive movements (facial expression). Facial expressions are natural and universal by nature. They do not depend on ethnicity, culture, social status, age, etc. Nonetheless, humans are sometimes capable of controlling their facial expressions and hiding their emotions. Simulating emotions is a fundamental acting skill. However, controlling facial impressions takes time. The onset of such a control is delayed by anything from 0.25 to even 0.1 second – the period when the authentic facial expression, adequate to the emotion is demonstrated – and therefore remains imperceptible to an external observer. This short-lived facial expression observed in that short meantime is known as microexpression. FaceReader, designed by Dutch company Noldus (established and directed by Professor Lucas Noldus), is a software package for automatic recognition and analysis of facial expression. As its diagnostic value for validity as well as reliability, that is the level of correct indications, remains unknown, we decided to determine it experimentally and have chosen to run an experiment comparing its diagnostic value with that of a traditional polygraph examination.
