Opis:
Background. MRSA and MLSB resistant S. aureus are known as important pathogens, which are responsible for many cases of both hospital and community-acquired infections worldwide. Studying drug discovery from plant sources is regarded as an important prevention strategy regarding these types of infections. Material and methods. Agar well diffusion method was performed for antimicrobial evaluation, LCMS technique used for identification of different compounds, molecular docking performed by application of iGEMDOCK for PBP2a and ERM to plant compounds, and its pharmacokinetic evaluation of ADMET through use of AdmetSAR. Results. Water extract was the most effective against resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus. Twenty compounds belonging to phenols, flavonoids, organic acids, terpenoids groups were reported. Eighteen plant compounds passed in Lipinski's rule of five. iGEMDOCK revealed diferulic acid has the least binding energy -102.37 kcal/mole to penicillin-binding protein 2a and taxifolin has the least binding energy of -103.12 kcal/mole to erythromycin ribosomal methylase in comparison to control linezolid. These compounds raise the potential for developing potent inhibitors of penicillin-binding protein 2a and erythromycin ribosomal methylase for drug development. ADMET properties revealed that eighteen studied compounds were found in category III and IV with non-toxic properties except two butin and taxifolin found in category II with toxic properties. Conclusions. It can be concluded that diferulic acid and taxifolin compounds provide the best inhibitor effect to PBP2a and ERM protein for inhibition of MRSA and MLSB resistant strains of S. aureus through the application of molecular docking, leading to a lead drug candidate for the treatment of diseases.

Opis:
Methanol and ethanol extract showed antibacterial activity in range of 0-11 at 10 mg/mL at against all tested bacterial species. Methanol extract with amoxicillin exhibited effective inhibition E. coli. This combination showed antagonistic effect against B. subtilis and S. aureus. Interaction of ethanol extract with amoxicillin also showed effective inhibition against E. coli and decreased activity against B. subtilis and S. aureus. Methanol extract did not show inhibition against P. aeruginosa but it enhanced activity of ciprofloxacin on combination. Ethanol extract also exhibited effective inhibition against P. aeruginosa on combination with ciprofloxacin. But antagonist effect was observed on interaction of both extract with ciprofloxacin against other bacterial species. Interaction of methanol and ceftazidime showed mostly decreased or indifferent effect against all bacterial species. Ethanol extract with ceftazidime resulted in higher inhibition against E. coli. Combination of methanol extract with erythromycin showed higher inhibition against E. coli and also very effective inhibition against S. aureus. This combination resulted in decreased activity against B. subtilis. Ethanol extract with erythromycin also showed synergistic effect against S. aureus and effective inhibition against E. coli. These results indicate that both methanol and ethanol extract has potential to enhance the combination effect with erythromycin against S. aureus and E. coli.

Gujarat has a coast line of approximately 1700 Km, varying in different habitat conditions. The state has two gulfs viz., gulf of Khambhat and gulf of Kachchh. Edaphic conditions of different habitats in ‘Bhal’ region of Gujarat state which falls in two districts viz. Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar district of Gujarat state. The coastal vegetation depends on the edaphic conditions of the region. The coastal flora of the ‘Bhal’ region belonging to Bhavnagar district has species like Suaeda nudiflora, Prosopis chilensis, Dichanthium annulatum, etc. The ‘Bhal’ region has marshy, wetland and semi-arid habitat. The present study investigates different physico-chemical parameters like Electrical Conductivity, pH and Sodium Adsorption Ratio, as well as mineral ion Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Magnessium and Chloride concentration in the soil of ‘Bhal’ region.

Opis:
Biological control of plant diseases is strongly emerging as an effective alternative to the use of chemical pesticides and fungicides. Stress tolerance is an important attribute in the selection of bacteria for the development of microbial inoculants. Fourteen salt-tolerant bacteria showing different morphological features isolated from the rhizosphere of maize were evaluated for different plant growth-promoting activities. All isolates showed auxin production ranging from 5 to 24 μg ⋅ ml–1 after 48 h incubation in tryptophan supplemented media. Phosphate solubilization ranged from 15 to 419 μg ⋅ ml–1. 1-aminocycloproprane- 1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase activity was shown by 6 isolates, ammonia production by 9 isolates, siderophore production by 8 isolates while HCN production by 4 isolates. Four bacterial isolates with all plant growth-promoting properties also showed strong antagonistic activities against Fusarium oxysporum, F. verticillioides, Curvularia lunata and Alternaria alternata and abiotic stress tolerance against salinity, temperature, pH and calcium salts. Two selected bacterial isolates significantly enhanced the growth of pea and maize test plants under greenhouse conditions. The bacterial isolate M1B2, which showed the highest growth promotion of test plants, was identified as Bacillus sp. based on phenotypic and 16S rDNA gene sequencing. The results indicated that Bacillus sp. M1B2 is a potential candidate for the development of microbial inoculants in stressful environments.

Opis:
A numerical simulation and parametric studies for the separation of air using 5A zeolite for the production of oxygen are presented for a basic two bed pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process. The simulation is based on an in-house program 'PSASOL' developed in MATLABŽ. The transient process of PSA has been described by a set of partial differential equations, which were solved using a finite difference method. Simulation results have been validated with the experimental data from literature. Based on the simulation results, an optimal set of operational parameter values has been obtained for the PSA bed. The values of the optimal parameters, viz. adsorption pressure, cycle time, feed rate, and product rate have been found to be 2.5 atm, 150 s, 15 cm3/s, and 2.55 cm3/s, respectively. For the optimal conditions, purity of 95.45% and recovery of 77.3% have been achieved. It has also been found that a longer tubular unit with the length to diameter (L/D) ratio of 10.5 is advantageous. The estimated pressure drop across the bed has been found to be negligible. Power consumption and productivity have also been computed.

Opis:
Properties of supporting surfaces of a seat have an influence on postural control. Centre of pressure (COP) displacement parameters reflect both the balance controlling process and movements of the centre of a mass of entire body. The subjects of the study were 9 healthy men. A seat cushion was examined with a 2-force platform setup. Force exertion at a seat pan and feet and COP displacement at a seat pan were measured to analyse postural control. Analysis of variance determined the differences in postural control depending on a cushion type among the subjects. Significant differences in COP displacement parameters were in COP trajectory length, medio-lateral COP displacement and COP velocity. The results of the study showed that foam cushion ensures better postural control.

Opis:
The study examined the utility of stabilometric dimensions and explored whether the changes in sitting postures were manifested in functional measures of postural control. Eleven women participated in the study, which used 11 chair sitting postures: arms on laps or arms right angled; armrest at a height of 17, 20 and 23 cm; with or without backrest; slouch or straight back; legs right angled at knees or crossed legs. The backrest and armrest shifted 16.3% of body weight from a seat pan. The characteristics of stabilometric dimensions evaluated the influence of seat components and sitting behaviour on postural balance. The study attempted to evaluate stability and its application in human–seat interface design.
