Opis:
Residue incorporation is not a common practice in many production systems in areas with a Mediterranean climate. The aim of the research was to study the effect of residue incorporation levels of three cycles of two biannual rotations on corn yield and chemical properties of soil after six years. An experiment was conducted with two biannual rotations (canola-corn and bean-corn) and four residue incorporation levels (0%, 50%, 100%, and 200%) in a Chilean Andisol (Melanoxerand). Corn grain yield and residue production were evaluated during three cycles of crop rotation, and the soil’s chemical properties were evaluated at the end of the evaluation round. The experimental design was a split plot, in which the main plot was the previous crop (two crops) and the split plot was the residue level (four levels). The results showed that the highest corn grain yield was obtained in the first evaluation season (p<0.05), when the average yield for both rotations was 10.1% higher than the average yield obtained in the third season. On the other hand, the average residue production of the first two seasons was 15.2% higher than that obtained in the third season (p<0.05). Chemical properties of the soil were affected by a rotation, with an increase in pH in the bean-corn rotation after bean cultivation, and an increase in both exchangeable Al and available S in the canola-corn and bean-corn rotations after canola. On the other hand, the use of increasing doses of residue enabled a consistent increase in the content of both organic matter and exchangeable K in the soil, and partially the available P in soil. The concentration of exchangeable Ca was increased with an increasing dose of residue only in the rotation with canola. Finally, this work allows us to conclude that continuous incorporation of the residues produced within the biannual rotations evaluated in this volcanic soil contributes to improvement of the soil’s chemical properties, without affecting the corn crop yield.

Opis:
Chemical processes use to be non-minimum phase systems. Thereby, they are a challenge for control applications. In this paper, fuzzy state feedback is applied in the Van de Vusse reaction that has an inverse response. The control design has an integrator to enhance the control performance by eliminating the steady-state error when a step reference is applied. An anti-windup action is used to reduce the undershoot in the system response. In practice, it is not possible to have always access to all the state variables. Thus, a fuzzy state observer is implemented via LMIs. Frequently, the papers that show similar applications present some comments about disturbance rejection. To eliminate the steady-state error when a ramp reference is used, in this work, a second integrator is aggregated. Now, the anti-windup also reduces the overshoot generated due to the usage of two integrators in the final application.

Opis:
ObjectivesThis paper describes some operational tactical procedures (OTP) and discusses the results of a 14-year-long study, spanning the period 2003–2016, conducted by the Municipal Police of Cádiz, Spain, which comprised 3 time periods: 2003–2006, when the officers were trained in traditional policing procedures; 2007–2013, when the officers were taught an innovative set of OTP in the form of a basic set of self-defense and arrest mechanisms, different from the traditional policing procedures that rely on martial arts and combat sports; and finally 2014–2016, when the OTP training was discontinued. The aim of this study was to improve policing and reduce officer injuries resulting from interventions in controversial or violent situations, such as problematic arrests.Material and MethodsThe study involved 162 police officers and commanders of the Municipal Police of Cádiz, who were in street duty for their first time. There were 8 females and 154 males aged 24–55 years. Three OTP stages are shown as examples.ResultsBased on the analysis of “training hours” and “physical interventions in problematic arrests,” the results were: 1) the number of sick leaves in the police was identical according to the number of arrests, and 2) data on sick leaves show remarkable differences among the 3 periods under analysis.ConclusionsThe OTP-based training substantially reduced officer sick leaves. The overall reduction in sick leaves in the period 2007–2013 was observed that cannot be ascribed to a decrease in criminal acts, and hence in police physical interventions.
