    The aim of this article is to introduce roles and relation between security and strategic studies. The authors describe security and strategic studies in the Cold War Era and in the Post-Cold War Era. They also focus in current and future aiming of strategic studies and note, that fears of some experts that strategic studies would lose their importance after Cold-War Era did not confirm. On the contrary current international security environment form new challenges and questions, which must be answer by persuasive arguments.

    Odmowa podpisania ukladu stowarzyszeniowego między Ukrainą a UE przez prezydenta Janukowycza, która była genezą konfliktu między Ukrainą a Federacją Rosyjską, doprowadziła do znaczących zmian w europejskiej architekturze bezpieczeństwa. Konflikt bowiem nie dotyczy wyłącznie jego bezpośrednich uczestników, lecz Europy w całości. Artykuł koncentruje się zatem na analizie wpływu kryzysu ukraińskiego na bezpieczeństwo europejskie, analizuje też potencjalne znaczenie konfliktu dla kształtowania wspólnej polityki bezpieczeństwa i obrony UE.
    Janukovich´s refusal to sign the Ukraine-European Union Association Agreement, which has escalated into conflict between Ukraine and Russia Federation, has changed the European Security Architecture. It is because it has influenced not only direct actors themselves, but also Europe as a whole. Because of that his paper focuses on the analysis of the Ukrainian crisis´ influence on the European security, while analyzing also probability of its impact on shaping of the Common Foreign and Secuity Policy of the EU.

    The high dynamics of the changes in the security environment, deepening globalisation, and the growth of current and new, predominantly asymmetric, threats make permanent new demands on international society and require new more complex approaches towards the issue. One of the most significant tools the international community has for keeping peace and security on an international level, restraining centres of tension, consolidating or stabilising relations in crisis areas, and multilateral reconstruction and restoration of countries after armed conflicts, is represented by peace operations within international crisis management. Peace operations have changed a lot throughout the last fifty years, and today, unlike in the past, they represent highly complex, dynamic, demanding and multidimensional activities. Therefore, the main aim of the authors is to point out the significance of a theoretical and terminological basis for research in the field of peace operations.

    Conflicts in the current world are a global security threat. Conflict resolution is not easy, unless the reason are the political tensions and disputes in the state or between states and the pursuit of resolving these disputes by peaceful or diplomatic forms are unsuccessful. Radicalized non-state actors, who are the other actors of the conflict, do not see the possibility of applying democratic means of solving the problem, and therefore resort to irregular activities with the aim to discredit the government, destabilize the state authority, activate riots, open acts of violence and so on1 . Necessarily this creates conditions for the use of armed force as an instrument of power of the state or peacekeeping force of the international crisis management organizations which are present in conflict resolution

    As the new millennium starts to unfold, we see before us an area of security that has been radically reshaped since the end of the cold war and the end of the bipolar division of the world. Still more and more deepening globalisation brings not only a lot of positives, but also a lot of negatives appearing mainly in the form of new asymmetric security threats or risks, so we understand that a real effort will now be required to reappraise the 21st century. Simultaneously, it is clear that, if we want to stabilize security environment, we must look beyond our traditional military philosophy and deal very seriously with new global security risks and challenges.
