The Methodology of Occupational Activity Support for People with Functional Capacity Limitations Summary Modern demographic challenges – longer lifespan and the prolonged period of potential professional activity are related to the increased risk of limiting the functional capacities as a result of age or disability. The methodology of supporting the occupational activity of people with functional capacity limitations, presented in the study, comprises a set of instruments which provide support to people with functional deficits within the ergonomics paradigm – the mutual adjustment of a person and work. The aforementioned methodology makes use of the occupational therapy perspective – the holistic approach to a person experiencing difficulties and providing support to both the person themselves as well as the environment in which the person functions. The goal of the methodology is to offer an approach to people with functional capacity limitations which would make it possible to select professions and job positions in such a way that performing such work is safe and effective. In the study, the author presents the evaluations of a person’s functional capacities with a particular focus on the FCE method (Functional Capacity Evaluation) and the requirements imposed by work. In its foundations, the methodology fully addresses the needs of people with functional limitations; it provides an individualised and comprehensive approach to such a person. The instruments are of universal character and can be used by all people experiencing some professional difficulties within the paradigm of universal design. Apart from the discussion of the theoretical foundations of the methodology offered, its pilot implementation in the Pomeranian Competences Center in Gdańsk is also presented. The results of the multi-aspectual study of the effects of the implemented model confirm that this methodology is a useful element of the social support system, thereby contributing to the prevention of excluding older or people with disability from the labour market. The study stakeholders – the employees of public employment services, employers, people performing the functional capacity diagnosis and, most 222 Summary of all, people who were provided with the support in the Pomeranian Competences Center regarded the tested instruments as useful; moreover, the measured employment and economic efficiency of the methodology turned out to be very high. The methodology, verified in such a way, is a solution which is ready to be implemented; a solution which should become an element of the social support system, combining the support provided by public employment services with the system of social insurance and vocational rehabilitation.

ARCHITECTURE AND ERGONOMICS OF HOUSEHOLD KITCHENS AGAINST THE CULINARY CUSTOMS Acquiring knowledge concerning troublesome aspects of household chores, in particular, complex kitchen tasks as well as dining etiquette is of vital importance in creating optimal living conditions. Exploring those issues can be helpful in evaluation of the role of the kitchen in the house layout, as well as in the daily lives of the inhabitants. As was demonstrated in the monograph, despite the functional programme of houses and kitchens, house duties are still a significant part of daily life. Moreover, they are necessary in order to fulfill basic existential needs (e.g. feeding hunger and providing hygiene), as well as higher needs (e.g. social integration by activation of members of household). The type of kitchen equipment depends on individual ways of preparing meals, in particular in relation to the food industry and food service offer. Kitchen equipment is a derivative of current technological progress. Concentration of work in kitchen caused that it has always been equipped with numerous tools (e.g. cutlery and dishes). Mechanical and engine-driven devices enabled a reduction of physical effort devoted to, i.a. preparation of meals. What is more, permanent access to fully or partly processed food products frees from the necessity of making stock and initial processing of food. The abovementioned mechanisation and industrial processing however did not result in considerable shortening of time spent on performing kitchen chores. Together with an increase in the standard of living (e.g. hygiene and diversification of menu), the number of possessions etc., a lot of activities accompanying the process of cooking have been prolonged. Moreover, new chores and activities have arisen. Running of a modern household requires time-consuming planning. Making savings in household budgets enforces us to take on additional activities connected with, e.g. shopping for cheaper goods in further away parts of the city.
