    The aim of this paper is to show how are the phonetic features of a language island. On the one side there are processes simplifying the articulation, and on the other side idiophonic processes adopting the articulation features from the dominate language in the surroundings. The examples come from the former German language island in Silesia: Schönwald (pol. Bojków).
    O fonetyce wyspy językowej. Uwagi wstępne na przykładzie Schönwaldu na Śląsku Artykuł przedstawia problematykę tzw. wysp językowych. Cechy fonetyczne języka takich wysp to z jednej strony typowe dla dialektów tendencje ekonomizujące procesy artykulacyjne, z drugiej zaś idiofonicznie motywowane przejmowanie form typowych dla dominującego języka w otoczeniu wyspy. Przytoczono przykłady z dawnej niemieckojęzycznej wyspy językowej na Śląsku: Schönwald (pol. Bojków).

    The aim of the article is to examine the presence of Rusyn in the current linguistic landscape of the Lower Silesia region. Rusyn is the native language of Lemko, an East Slavic ethnic group that at first inhabited the Polish-Ukrainian-Slovak borderlands in the Carpathians. Various political events have repeatedly provoked migrations of Rusyn people. Today there are Rusyn settlements in many regions and cities in Europe and North America. In Central Europe, the most important include Ruski Krstur in the Serbian Vojvodina, Ştiuca in the Romanian Banat, small villages in northeastern Hungary, around the Slovakian Prešov and Ukrainian Užhorod as well as many places in Poland. In both Vojvodina and Slovakia, the institutional and political situation of the Rusyn language community is the most favorable, which results in a relatively rich presence of the language in public spaces even within their settlements. The current presence of Rusyn-speaking Lemkos in Lower Silesia is primarily the result of an expulsion campaign from 1947. On the one hand, they live in larger centers such as Wrocław or Legnica, where they cannot form closed groups, and on the other hand in small villages in the west-northern part of the region, where they are the absolute majority of residents in villages like Patoka or Michałów. However, the presence of the Rusyn language in the public spaces of the local linguistic landscape is very limited, which is determined by several sociolinguistic factors. The cemeteries in Modła and Zimna Woda occupy a special place in this landscape, where not only Rusyn lexis is manifested in the grave inscriptions, but also orthographic instabilities and hybrid forms that illustrate the Rusinian-Polish or Rusinian-Ukrainian language contact can be recognized.
    Das Ziel des Beitrags ist es die Präsenz des Rusinischen in der gegenwärtigen Sprachlandschaft der Region Niederschlesien zu prüfen. Rusinisch ist die Muttersprache von Lemken, einer ostslawischen ethnischen Gruppe, die ursprünglich die polnisch-ukrainisch-slowakischen Grenzgebiete in Karpaten bewohnte. Unterschiedliche politische Ereignisse haben immer wieder Migrationen der Rusinen provoziert. Heutzutage gibt es rusinische Siedlungen in vielen Regionen bzw. Städten Europas und Nordamerikas. In Mitteleuropa gehören u.a. Ruski Krstur in der serbischen Vojvodina, Ştiuca im rumänischen Banat, Kleindörfer im nordöstlichen Ungarn, um das slowakische Prešov und ukrainische Užhorod sowie vielerorts in Polen zu den wichtigsten. Sowohl in der Vojvodina als auch in der Slowakei ist die institutionell-politische Situation der rusinischen Sprachgemeinschaft am günstigsten, was auch innerhalb ihrer Siedlungen relativ reiche Präsenz der Sprache in öffentlichen Räumen zu Folge hat. Die gegenwärtige Anwesenheit rusinischsprachiger Lemken in Niederschlesien ist vor allem Folge einer Vertreibungsaktion aus dem Jahre 1947. Sie leben einerseits in größeren Zentren wie z.B. Breslau oder Liegnitz, wo sie aber keine geschlossenen Gruppen bilden können, und andererseits in kleinen Dörfern im westnördlichen Teil der Region, wo sie in Dörfern wie Patoka oder Michałów stets absolute Mehrheit der Einwohner sind. Allerdings ist die Präsenz der rusinischen Sprache in den öffentlichen Räumen der dortigen Sprachlandschaft sehr begrenzt, was durch mehrere soziolinguistische Faktoren determiniert wird. Eine besondere Stelle in dieser Landschaft nehmen die Friedhöfe in Modła und Zimna Woda ein, wo in den Grabinschriften nicht nur rusinische Lexik manifestiert wird, sondern auch orthographische Instabilitäten und hybride Formen, die den Sprachkontakt Rusinisch–Polnisch bzw. Rusinisch–Ukrainisch illustrieren, zu erkennen sind.

    The philological pronunciation training is based on scientific knowledge from the field of phonology and phonetics, which are then worked out in the so-called phonodidactics. However, it is not uncommon for phonological approaches to be hardly applicable in foreign language didactics. In this context, the well-known theory of distinctive features is a prime example. In this article, principles are formulated that optimize the effectiveness of foreign language didactic phonetics.

    The paper discusses articulatory diversity of the /r/ sound in present-day German. Both consonantal and vocalic values of the rhotic are discussed. The choice between the consonantal and the vocalic forms is motivated by distribution. The most common consonantal forms are the uvular trill and the uvular fricative. However, their pronunciation is idiophonic.
