Opis:
With the increase in use and application of carbon nanomaterials and the frequent presence of fluoroquinolones and tetracyclines antibiotics in the aquatic environment, their interactions have attracted extensive attention. In this study, adsorption of two antibiotics: oxytetracycline (OTC) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) by four carbon-based nanomaterials (graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide, multiwalled carbon-nanotubes, oxidized multiwalled carbon-nanotubes) affected by pH was investigated. The experiment was performed in two steps: (i) adsorption of OTC and CIP at different pH values, (ii) adsorption isotherm studies of both antibiotics on four carbon-based nanomaterials. Both steps were conducted using the batch equilibration technique. The results showed that the adsorption of both antibiotics on studied adsorbents was highly pH-dependent. The highest adsorption was obtained at pH 7.0, implying the importance of the zwitterionic antibiotics forms to adsorption. Antibiotics adsorption isotherms at three given pH values followed the order of pH 7.0 > 1.0 > 11.0, which confirmed zwitterionic species of OTC and CIP as having the greatest ability to adsorb on carbonaceous nanomaterials. Electrostatic interaction, π-π EDA interaction, hydrophobic interaction for both antibiotics, and additionally hydrogen bond for CIP were possible mechanisms responsible for OTC and CIP adsorption onto studied nanomaterials. These results should be important to understand and assess the fate and interaction of carbon-based nanomaterials in the aquatic environment. This study can also be important for the use of carbon nanomaterials to remove antibiotics from the environment.

Opis:
The social functioning of people with dysfunctions is an essential part of any training programme for future special education teachers. Special Education Studies involve two large class modules dedicated, among other things, to the methodology of teaching and the social functioning of children, youth and adults with disabilities. With respect to deaf and hard of hearing persons (DHH), one can speak about focusing on rehabilitation and integration of DHH students into the whole of hearing society in the broad sense of the terms: this approach is specific to Polish surdopedagogy which is one of the fields of Special Education. Consequently, Polish surdopedagogy devotes relatively little attention to deaf people’s manual communication, in particular the Polish Sign Language (PJM) or to deafness from the cultural perspective. These two dominant features of Polish surdopedagogy, i.e., the affirmation of special therapy and the ignorance of the communication aspect, will be subject to an analysis that is necessary in view of the emancipation of Deaf Studies, or of an interdisciplinary approach to the problems of deafness from the DHH community’s perspective. Deaf Studies cover the same issues as surdopedagogy. However, while surdopedagogy is based on the medical definition of deafness (inability to hear) and its effect on the functioning of people with hearing loss, the foundation for Deaf Studies is the social functioning of DHH persons among d/Deaf people, which reflects the developmental dynamics of their cultural identity within the linguistic minority, with all the consequential implications.

Opis:
Gall-stone disease constitutes a serious clinical problem and is the most frequent cause of elective cholecystectomies. There are many etiopatogenic factors however; lithogenic bile and its stasis due to gall-bladder hypomotility seem to be the most important. In recent years discovery of pacemaker function of Interstitial Cells of Cajal changed our understanding of smooth muscle physiology and helped to disclose many gastrointestinal motility disorders. The aim of the study was identification and quantification of interstitial Cajal-like cells (ICLCs) in gall-bladder muscle wall from patients with cholelithiasis and in gall-stone-free controls, as well as determination of the relationship between the number of ICLCs and Cholesterol Saturation Index (CSI) of bile in both analyzed groups. Material and methods. 20 patients operated for symptomatic cholelithiasis were enrolled into the study group. The control group consisted of 20 patients operated for pancreatic head tumors, with no pre- and intraoperative signs of gall-stones. Identification of ICLCs in the gall-bladder was performed by means of double immunofluorescence technique with anti c-Kit and anti-mast cell tryptase antibodies. Quantitative analysis was carried out under fluorescence microscopy conjoined with image analysis software. Bile samples were used for calculation of CSI. Results. ICLCs were detected within gall-bladder muscle wall. Number of ICLCs was statistically significantly lower in patients from the study group as compared to control. The study also revealed statistically significantly higher CSI in the study group. Conclusions. The quantity of ICLCs is diminished in the gall-bladder from patients with cholelithiasis and there is negative correlation between the number of ICLCs and CSI of bile. Regarding the role of ICCs in regulation of GI tract motility, it appears that reduction in their number may be important etiopatogenic factor of cholelithiasis.
