Opis:
The article contains descriptive statistics on rainfall in an area of the southern part of the last ice age in Europe, and which now comprises the north-eastern part of the Poland. The study covers the period of 1981-2010. The sums of the annual and monthly precipitation were calculated, while years and months were evaluated in relation to the multi-annual and monthly averages. The frequency of daily precipitations was also determined. Values of SPI (Standarized Precipitation Index) were calculated together with the values of the Selianinov Index, which measures the environmental aspect of precipitation. The average annual rainfall showed a spatial heterogeneity in the region from 700.1 mm (Elblag in the north-west) to 555.3 mm (Mława) in the east and south-east. The greatest precipitation occurred in the last decade of the analysed period of thirty years. However, statistical analysis shows no significant trend change in precipitation during this period. The number of years with sums of precipitation below 75% of the normal turned out to be very small. In the annual cycle, summer precipitation prevailed. On a monthly basis, the averages sometimes exceeded the multiyear averages by as much as 200%, while extreme lows in monthly precipitation reached levels below 25% of the long-term averages. The calculated value of the SPI indicated that the most common drought conditions occurred in May and June; such droughts did not occur in April and July. The Selianinov Index indicates that the least favorable hydrothermal conditions occur in April and May, while the most favorable conditions occur in August and September.

Opis:
The paper presents the research results on the relation between the contents of total zinc and its bioavailable form (Zn) and physicochemical properties of soil carried out along three catenas in the postglacial valley of the middle Łyna River, in NE Poland. We focused on topographical factors to determine the amount of Zn in the soil in relation to specific geochemical landscape types. The analyzed soil showed a relatively low level of soil pollution with Zn and did not exceed the threshold values for soil contamination with Zn. The average Zn content amounted to 45.75 mg kg -1 d.m. and ranged from 8.80 to 176.26 mg kg -1 d.m. The heavy metal content in the soil was related to organic matter and clay fraction, while it was inversely proportional to the share of sandy fraction. Distribution of zinc showed variability due to factors derived from topography, soil heterogeneity in the river valley as well as fluvial processes taking place within the floodplain. Different geochemical landscapes showed depressive trends in both Zn and Zn contents along the catenas. It diminished from eluvial to transeluvial landscapes and increased again to superaqual landscape. Depressions after former river channel were favorable for the Zn accumulation. The most abundant in Zn were upper horizons of Fluvisols in superaqual landscape (45.12 mg kg –1 ) filling overgrown and terrestialized floodplain lakes. The share of Zn a was the highest in organic horizons of Fluvisols and achieved 51.4% of total Zn. The nature and power of functional links between the heavy metal mobility and the soil properties were determined with multivariate statistics and GAM models. Applied ordination statistics confirmed its usefulness in soil factor analyses.

Opis:
In this mini-review we were interested in describing the main genetic, biological and mechanistic aspects of the aggressive behaviour in human patients and animal models. It seems that violent behaviour and impulsive traits present a multifactorial substrate, which is determined by genetic and non-genetic factors. Thus, aggressivity is regulated by brain regions such as the amygdala, which controls neural circuits for triggering defensive, aggressive or avoidant behaviour. Moreover, other brain structures such as the anterior cingulate cortex and prefrontal cortex regions could modulate circuits involved in aggression. Regarding the genetic aspects, we could mention the mutations in the monoamine oxidase or the polymorphisms of the genes involved in the metabolism of serotonin, such as tryptophan hydroxylase. Also, besides the low levels of serotonin metabolites, which seem to be associated with impulsive and aggressive traits, there are good evidences that deficiencies in glutamate transmission, as well as testosterone, vasopressin, hypochloesterolemia or oxytocin modifications could be related to the aggressive behaviour. Regarding oxytocin we present here in the last chapter the controversial results from the current literature regarding the various effects exhibited by oxytocin administration on the aggressive behavior, considering the increased interest in understanding the role of oxytocin on the main neuropsychiatric disorders.

In the frame of a non-standard scale relativity model, the specific momentum, states density and internal energy conservations laws are obtained. The chaoticity, either through turbulence in the fractal hydrodynamics approach, or through stochasticization in the Schrödinger type approach, is generated only by the non-differentiability of the movement trajectories of the complex fluid entities. Using the conservation laws mentioned above, by numerical simulations, hysteretic type effects (dynamics of hysteretic cycles) occur.

Opis:
Water quality parameters of floodplain lakes may be indicative of the intensity of groundwater recharge. The main assumption made in the study is that the direct influence of groundwater recharge is reflected in the vertical gradient of temperature and aeration along the whole water column. Considering this, we seasonally monitored physical and chemical properties of 22 oxbow lakes in postglacial river valleys (the Słupia, Drwęca and Łyna rivers) in temperate climate zone in the southern watershed of the Baltic Sea (N Poland). The results were compared with groundwater samples from transects of piezometers located near the floodplain lakes. The floodplain water bodies showed variability (both in vertical and spatial dimensions) in temperature, aeration and electrolytic conductivity, affected mainly by different sources of water supply. The temperatures and dissolved oxygen contents declined not only with the increasing depth of water and a distance from the river channel, but also a significant drop in the parameters’ values have been associated with groundwater recharge within the floodplain edge.
Uwzględniając tę hipotezę, monitoringowi poddano właściwości fizyczne i chemiczne wody w 22 starorzeczach północnej Polski (w dolinie rzeki Słupi, Drwęcy i Łyny) położonych w umiarkowanej strefie klimatycznej, w warunkach fizyczno-geograficznych południowego zlewiska Bałtyku.
