Opis:
From Tithonus to the Struldbrugs of Swift, the old age is seen as a phase of decline, of decay, of exclusion from active life, which generates conditions of need. Senility can become even an influencing discrimination: in 1969 Robert Butler coined the term ageism and developed the theory of the phenomenon. So it is very surprising to see the optimism of Oriana Fallaci who observed: «They are fools those who refuse [the old age] and in order to refuse it they make the facelift, they dress up like a twenty-yearold, they cheat on age. Silly and ungrateful. […] The oldness is a beautiful age. The golden age of Life» [IA 149-150]. The tone marvels even more if you think about the cancer against which the Florentine journalist fought for years. It therefore seems interesting to analyze the reason for such serenity, despite the thanatic shadow.

Opis:
Marriage is one of the most important rites of passage and has a very rich rituality. The wedding ceremony is treated as a necessary consecration besides a formalization (legal, social and/or economic and financial) of a relationship between two people and then the legitimation of offspring born into this union. The wedding then becomes also a prerequisite for sexual intercourse. The sacred aspect of marriage is evident in the fact that it is treated as the fulfillment of a divine precept. The married life in Islam is viewed as a religious obligation as well. However, it is not a religious rite, nor a sacrament, but a contract between families that expect the creation of a new social group and the perservation of the bloodline, and which recognizes the man as the head of the family. The hierophany of that passage disappears in the mercantile context, in which the bride just has to be a mother of sons and - if she is not - she can be repudiated. The negative and dehumanizing view of Islamic marriage, seen as a monoandric, polygynous institution, is particularly emphasized by Oriana Fallaci in her various texts, starting with her second book, The Useless Sex: Voyage around the Woman (1961), and ending at the penultimate collection of her famous interviews, Interviews with Power (2009). Fallaci highlights the reification of Muslimwomen, the violence against them, their submission and dependence on men, their questionable condition in the family and society, the problem of child brides, infibulation, and the obligation of the full veil. Key words: Fallaci, Islam, child bride, marriage, rites of passage

Opis:
Written in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Oriana Fallaci’s pamphlet La rabbia e l’orgoglio has provoked an international discussion, as well as trials on charges of defaming Islam. The journalist, outraged by the incomprehension of both, her position and reality in which terrorism prospers and “Eurabia” is being consolidated more and more, responded to the harsh words of critique with two other pamphlets: La forza della Ragione and Oriana Fallaci intervista sé stessa. L’Apocalisse. Both texts are even richer in examples aimed to demonstrate the Islamic expansion, the “presumed” culture of Muslims, and the myopia of European governments, EU and international structures. Fallaci remained true to herself and her own style - direct, expressive, passionate, often offensive - which, combined with her specific views, has provoked attacks, insults and outrage, as well as a wave of admiration. Only time will show if her concepts were indeed prophetic, or simply xenophobic. Key words: Fallaci, Eurabia, Islam, expansion, pamphlet.

Opis:
Oriana Fallaci had the opportunity to closely observe the efforts the US made during the Space Race which was sealed in 1957 by the launch of the first Russian Sputnik. The journalist knew dozens of NASA workers (including astronauts, engineers and doctors) and others (external scientists, advertisers, writers). Based on the interviews and articles printed in L’Europeo, Fallaci published two books Se il Sole muore (1965) and Quel giorno sulla Luna (1970). Recently, the publishing house Rizzoli collected some of Fallaci’s texts that appeared in this weekly newspaper (L’Europeo) between 1964 and 1980 in the volume La Luna di Oriana (2018). It would be worth analyzing the cornerstones of Fallaci’s narrative approach, resembling in many ways the American New Journalism – with its tension between information and emotion, interpretation and persuasion – in her work before the famous war reports.

L’insularità femminile ne Il sesso inutile di Oriana Fallaci

Opis:
On her journey through various countries of Asia and the Pacific (e.g. the island of Hong Kong, Japan, the Hawaiian Islands), Fallaci was able to discover that the feminine insularity was dictated not only by the geographical reality. The periphericity of the condition of the “useless sex” seemed to her almost a sine qua non of femininity itself. The colonial center / periphery dichotomy strengthened on a special role of the Asian woman, who only with globalization of the twentieth century found herself forced to a painful confrontation with tradition on the one hand and with modernity on the other. Therefore, it seems interesting to analyze the results generated by the sociocultural tension observed by Fallaci and the changes onto‑epistemological caused by the revolution of costumes. Key words: woman, island, insularity, Oriana Fallaci, Asia

Levi Primo
Hybridism
Opis:
The paper is dedicated to the writer's fascination of complexity of the universe and hybridism. He used to call himself a centaur, because of his double disposition: novelist/poet and chemist. Levi, stretched between being Italian and Jew, writer and chemist, commentator and translator, between the «daily» and «nightly» writing, was able to transcend the common division between letters and science. He was interested in contamination, mixture, mutation, and discussed hybridity in many essays and literary scherzos to show convolutions of human condition and prolific richness of life. Levi's unusual powers of observation combine with an abundance of themes and literary forms, which proves that his works are marked by hybridism at morphological level as well.
