Opis:
In this work, the influence of recoil effect and surface excitations on the inelastic mean free paths for polythiophenes is investigated. The inelastic mean free paths of electrons in polythiophenes are measured with the elastic peak electron spectroscopy method using the Ag standard and the electron elastic scattering cross-sections from the database NIST 3.1 in the electron kinetic energy range 200-5000 eV. The Monte Carlo model is applied for evaluating the electron backscattering intensities from the polymers and the Ag standard, as well as for evaluating electrons quasi-elastically backscattered from atoms of different atomic numbers (the recoil effect). The surface excitation corrections are accounted for using the formalism of Chen, with the material parameters for polythiophenes evaluated from the elastic peak electron spectroscopy method. Deviations due to recoil effect and surface excitations to the inelastic mean free paths are compared and discussed. Correction to the inelastic mean free paths due to recoil effect is considerable but is smaller, however, than the correction due to surface excitations. Accounting for recoil effect and surface excitations leads to improvement of the inelastic mean free paths, as compared to the inelastic mean free paths resulting from the predictive formulae of Gries.

In many engineering problems, we face multi-objective optimization, with several objective functions f1, . . . , fn. We want to provide the user with the Pareto set-a set of all possible solutions x which cannot be improved in all categories (i.e., for which fj (x') fj (x) for all j and fj(x') > fj(x) for some j is impossible). The user should be able to select an appropriate trade-off between, say, cost and durability. We extend the general results about (verified) algorithmic computability of maxima locations to show that Pareto sets can also be computed.

Opis:
Photographers usually choose a recipe for their artistic purposes from many experimented ones of the past 150 years. Unfortunately, these recipes describe only the dilution of the solutions, but do not give a guide how much shall be used for the optimal result for a unit size surface. Besides, each of the transfer processes have a cumulative mapping distortion of the image transfer steps. We have already found the optimal volume of the salt solution and we published the results in an article. The aim of this paper is to describe the salted paper technique and to seek the optimal volume of the silver solution for creating proper prints. This article will review the saltprint alternative process, the available large form negative types, the used machines and what we can expect from the result. By having the optimal salt and silver volume, we determined the transfer curve of this process. The final goal is to create a software, that is able to produce the inverse of the mapping error. By using this inverse function, the original picture can be predistorted in order to make the desired linear transfer of the image onto the paper. Later on, it will be essential to test the different paper types, the amount of UV light and the effect of arrowroot gelatin layer or toners on contrast.

Opis:
Despite the fact that bone mineral density (BMD) is an important fracture risk predictor in human medicine, studies in equine orthopedic research are still lacking. We hypothesized that BMD correlates with bone failure and fatigue fractures of this bone. Thus, the objectives of this study were to measure the structural and mechanical properties of the proximal phalanx with dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), to correlate the data obtained from DXA and computer tomography (CT) measurements to those obtained by loading pressure examination and to establish representative region of interest (ROI) for in vitro BMD measurements of the equine proximal phalanx for predicting bone failure force. DXA was used to measure the whole bone BMD and additional three ROI sites in 14 equine proximal phalanges. Following evaluation of the bone density, whole bone, cortical width and area in the mid-diaphyseal plane were measured on CT images. Bones were broken using a manually controlled universal bone crusher to measure bone failure force and reevaluated for the site of fractures on follow-up CT images. Compressive load was applied at a constant displacement rate of 2 mm/min until failure, defined as the first clear drop in the load measurement. The lowest BMD was measured at the trabecular region (mean ± SD: 1.52 ± 0.12 g/cm2; median: 1.48 g/cm2; range: 1.38-1.83 g/cm2). There was a significant positive linear correlation between trabelcular BMD and the breaking strength (P=0.023, r=0.62). The trabecular region of the proximal phalanx appears to be the only significant indicator of failure of strength in vitro. This finding should be reassessed to further reveal the prognostic value of trabecular BMD in an in vivo fracture risk model.

Laughter is one of the most important paralinguistic events, and it has specific roles in human conversation. The automatic detection of laughter occurrences in human speech can aid automatic speech recognition systems as well as some paralinguistic tasks such as emotion detection. In this study we apply Deep Neural Networks (DNN) for laughter detection, as this technology is nowadays considered state-of-the-art in similar tasks like phoneme identification. We carry out our experiments using two corpora containing spontaneous speech in two languages (Hungarian and English). Also, as we find it reasonable that not all frequency regions are required for efficient laughter detection, we will perform feature selection to find the sufficient feature subset.

Elimination of hydrogen sulfide from gaseous streams by biological treatments is a promising alternative procedure, among them biotrickling reactor seems a reliable and efficient system. To maximize the performance, strains should have high hydrogen sulfide elimination efficiency; excellent carriers should be selected where the microbes can be immobilized. Various carriers were used as the support medium for the immobilization of Thiobacillus thioparus and a continuous biotrickling reactor was constructed and operated for H2S elimination. It was found that such systems with Mavicell and Kaldnes supports are able to remove H2S from gas mixtures with high efficiency (95–100%), and the elimination capacity was calculated as a high as 30–40 g S/(m3·h).

Opis:
Carpathian Scots pine populations having peripheral distribution within the species’ range are often sustained in specific types of habitats, such as peat bogs and rocky surfaces or lime consisting sandy substrates. Due to their long time adaptive processes, which involve genotypes that can be preadapted to a given selection pressure, historically isolated populations are subjects of particular interest in studies of in situ adaptation. In this study we focus on detecting the level of phenotypic differentiation based on cone morphology and needle anatomy in marginal populations of Pinus sylvestris L. in the Pannonian Basin and the Carpathian Mountains. Six cone morphological and eight needle anatomical characters were measured and four cone morphological and four needle anatomical ratios were calculated. Our results in concordance with paleobotanical data indicate a common origin of the populations from the Northern Carpathians and the Pannonian Basin. High levels of variation were observed in cone morphology. Discriminant function analysis based on the eight cone characteristics revealed clearly discernible groups of populations and indicated significant differentiation among populations growing in peat bogs and on rocky substrates. Significant differences among populations from different habitats were also revealed by comparing needle anatomical variables. The phenotypic differentiation by habitat type based on the measured characters might be evaluated as a sign of local adaptation with detectable phenotypic patterns.

Opis:
Although Hedera helix is the only native ivy distributed in Central Europe, other ivy species are cultivated in this region and have horticultural importance, including H. hibernica, H. colchica, and H. azorica. On the basis of morphological, cytological, and phenological studies, a newly identified diploid species of ivy, H. crebrescens Bényei-Himmer & Höhn, was recently described from Hungary. Due to its high reproductive capacity and vigorous growth, this species can be considered a potentially invasive plant that could readily supplant H. helix in its native habitats. To characterize the molecular taxonomic status of H. crebrescens, we conducted a molecular genetic analysis based on five chloroplast and one nuclear DNA regions. Our phylogenetic reconstruction supported the monophyly of Hedera, with a tree topology similar to that previously obtained based on phylogenetic cpDNA analyses. Mediterranean species of ivy were well separated from the remainder of the European species, as well as from Asian species. Hedera crebrescens represented a single independent haplotype within the Asian–European cluster, whereas H. helix proved to be polyphyletic. The detected species-specific haplotype and invariability among studied specimens obtained from different geographical locations, provide support for the taxonomical autonomy of H. crebrescens.
