Opis:
The chapter How is the Death Hounting Popular Culture? From “I” to Pop-art, from Letter to Letter by Michał Szukała is of a philosophical nature and takes on the concept of death as a theme. The mere concept is a void, if it is an intellectual idea alone. On the contrary, it must be incorporated into the world and reciprocally—the world creates the concept. Thus, how does then the concept of death manifest itself in today’s Zeitgeist understood as media culture, otherwise known as pop culture? Is it that is culture able to construct the concept of death, and if so, in what way? It seems that death in pop culture refers to the reproducible element, i.e. the sign in the form of images or strategies, whose fate is to be repeated, imitated, modified et cetera. But pop culture not only determines what the sign is—it is the principle of it, with respect to the media culture and indispensably to a certain industry. The medium and the machine, the artificial and the dead, in fact are founding elements in the dynamics of the “living” culture. Death is therefore not only a concept in form of the sign. It is a determining idea for the present civilization’s structure: death makes it possible and outlines its limits. In that movement in history, the philosophical and artistic phenomenon of Andy Warhol is inscribed, which managed to embody the great paradigm shifts and subsequently becoming their very manifestation and affirmation. Warhol led pop culture to its most radical, purest form. He unmasked its critics and the alleged deceitful protagonists, who were driven merely by their motive for profit. The text follows various incarnations of death in Warhol’s oeuvre: from the general technique of reproduction to the distinct pictorial forms of self-portraits and pictures of other people’s deaths.

Opis:
I stand for a philosophical writing engaged in an ethical relation with discussed authors. The relation despite its obvious immeasurable value is based on a concrete context of the encounter, performed by a signifier. Gratitude is the phenomenon, which describes properly the ethical relation, for it at once opens the absolute dimension of an unique other and expresses some onthical content of gestures, gifts and signs, which Myself receives from the others. The article criticises Buber’s theory, due to its ignorance of difference, corporeality, linguistic sign, passivity, etc. For that reason I use Derridian concepts, that enhance (but consequently deconstruct) Levinasian principles.

hepato-billiary complications
long-term parenteral nutrition
Opis:
The major problem of total parenteral treatment consists in the balancing of the source and dose of the nutritional mixture, so as to not deepen malnutrition with a positive impact on the patients’ organism. The aim of the study was to evaluate selected factors that induce hepato-billiary complications in patients treated by means of parenteral nutrition at home. Material and methods. The retrospective study comprised 70 patients with biochemistry performed every three months. Considering statistical analysis patients were allocated to four groups, depending on the period of treatment. Group A analysis results were based on the activity of aminotransferases, group B on the activity of bilirubin. Both groups A and B were additionally divided into group I where we assigned normal values of control lab results, and group II with improper results after treatment. Results. Differences between groups Ia vs IIa were presented on the basis of the daily supply of glucose: mean- 2.52 vs 3.49 g/kg (p=0.000003), glucose/lipids ratio: mean- 3.76 vs 4.90 g/kg (p=0.0001), daily non-protein energy: mean- 16.73 vs 21.06 kcal/kg (p=0.0001). Differences between groups Ib vs IIb were presented on the basis of the daily supply of glucose: mean- 2.76 vs 3.46 g/kg (p=0.0007), glucose/lipids ratio: mean- 3.98 vs 5.13 g/kg (p=0.01), daily non-protein energy: mean-17.96 vs 20.36 kcal/kg (p=0.04). Based on the above-mentioned analysis the main goal in the prevention of hepatic complications should lead to the reduction of the dose of glucose. Increased glucose supply leads to increased number of hepato-billiary complications. Conclusions. Based on obtained results we were able to conclude that in case of liver complications associated with parenteral nutrition, proper management consists in the modification of nutritional mixtures (reduction in the daily glucose supply and change in the proportions of extra-protein energy). Such management has the greatest clinical effect. When determining the composition of the nutritional mixture one should adjust the glucose supply, so as to offset both sources of extra-protein energy
