Opis:
A method for the detection of segregating major genes based on the analysis of estimated marginal posterior major gene variance density was examined. The properties of the method were investigated using data sets simulated for a real population of laying hens consisting of eleven generations. Marginal posterior densities of model parameters were estimated by the Gibbs sampling approach proposed by Janss et al. (1995). With the data of about 4000 observations it was possible to detect a major gene responsible for one third of the genetic variance and one tenth of the phenotypic variance, irrespectively of the degree of dominance at the major locus. The inference based on the posterior marginal major gene variance can be sensitive to skewness of the data. It was shown that skewness of 0.2 can lead to a false detection of a major gene. The method is robust against a non-genetic mixture of normal distributions.

The report describes some of the results obtained in an experimental study of the impact of a powerful plasma stream and a fast ion beam generated in a PF-1000 device on different materials perspective for the use in radiation loaded parts of pulsed plasma installations. Investigations were done during and after the interaction processes. It is shown that in case of irradiation of samples only by high power flux density plasma streams the effect of detachment still preserved. At the same time a low power flux density high-energy ion beam plays an important role in the process of saturation of the irradiated material by hydrogen.

Opis:
The paper reports on actual operational characteristics of the PF-1000 facility and it presents results of the first neutron experiments performed with a new set of large Mather-type electrodes, which were designed for shots up to 1000 kJ. Dynamics of a current-sheath was studied by means of two high-speed streak cameras and a two-frame camera. The last one was used for the side-on observation of the pinch column. The high-speed streak pictures were taken side-on behind slits oriented in the radial or axial direction. On the basis of the pictures taken behind the radial slit, average values of the radial compression and expansion velocities were estimated. Time-resolved X-ray signals were measured with PIN diodes covered by different filters, and they were compared with other traces (voltage waveforms, dI/dt signals, and neutron-induced pulses) in order to determine their correlation. The total neutron yield (Ytot), i.e. the number of neutrons produced during a single discharge and emitted in various directions, was measured by means of several silver-activation detectors placed at different angles around the PF-1000 experimental chamber.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of the diagnostics observing the impact of the plasma sheath imploded in megaamper Z-pinch or plasma focus devices onto the Al or C wires of 30-300 mi m in diameter fixed in the center axis. The discharges were operated with a maximum current of 1.5-3 MA at two devices, PF 1000 at IPFLM in Warsaw, and Stand 300 at RRC Kurchatov Institute in Moscow. At the plasma impact the 10-50 ns XUV pulse was emitted in K-shell lines from the ring or helical-like forms on the surface of the wire corona. The scenario of the production of the non-equilibrium intensities of the C and Al H-like and He-like lines is discussed considering fast transformation of magnetic field, electron beams acceleration, total ionization of the ions and fast recombination in dense and magnetized wire corona.

Opis:
The numerical solution of full shallow water equation (SWE) including the eddy viscosity terms is presented. In the first part of the paper the solution of the homogeneous part of SWE for discontinuous, rapidly varied flow is reported. The method presented here is based on Roe idea of numerical fluxes of mass and momentum. The numerical solution of SWE on unstructured, triangular mesh is reported and the influence of geometry approximation is examined. The imposing of the boundary condition on a triangular numerical mesh is described in detail. The consistent with finite volume method (FVM) approximation of the viscous part of SWE is presented. The procedure similar to the finite element method (FEM) is used to calculate the function derivatives inside the finite volumes. The specific difficulties of source terms numerical integration are studied and some methods to avoid these problems are presented. To integrate the bottom friction term the splitting technique is implemented. The computed results are compared to analytical solution of Saint-Venant equations, experimental data and results available in the literature. Good agreement between these results is observed.

We present the results of experiments focused on energy transformations during the implosion of the hydrogen current sheath towards an Al wire (120 ěm in diameter) positioned on the top of the inner electrode of the PF-1000 plasma focus facility at the IPPLM in Warsaw. A wire corona is formed at the current sheath impact and ~60 ns after the impact a soft X-ray pulse is emitted. Its spectrum contains AlVI-XII lines accompanied by their satellites. The amount of emitted energy is recorded by two filtered PIN diodes and thermoluminescent dosimeters and depends on symmetry of the current sheath and quality of the current sheath focus. The mean value of energy of keV photons emitted in the runs done without the wire (~1 J) is higher than the energy obtained with the wire (~0.4 J). A time delay between the impact of the current sheath and X-ray pulse, the plasma focus dynamics and soft X-ray emission are interpreted by an axial magnetic field generation and transformations.

The results of experimental investigations of powerful hydrogen plasma jets and fast ion beams interaction with various materials (austenitic chromium-manganese steels, pure vanadium, tungsten, graphite, copper, and their alloys: Cu-4 mass% Ni and Cu-10 mass% Ga) are presented. The materials were placed on the discharge axis of the PF-1000 device and irradiated with fluxes of fast ions (of energy in the range from tens keV up to several MeV) and with plasma streams (of power flux density q~(108 109) W/cm2). It was found that the fast ions and plasma streams caused different damages to the aforementioned materials. A diverse character of the damages to the individual investigated material was revealed. Some peculiarities of the process as well as the correlation between the surface density of the "macroscopic" structural defects (blisters and craters) and the fluence of the fast ions implanted in the specimen are discussed.

The results of physical modelling of water flow in `Wild River' type slide are presented. The hydraulic investigation concerns the water slide being a component of `Świat Wodny Nemo' water-pool complex in Sopot. The laboratory tests were carried out on a model of the slide installed in the Laboratory of Hydro and Environmental Engineering of the Gdańsk University of Technology. Generally, the water flow observed in the open channel and reservoir system can be classified as steady and rapidly varied. The large number of local, hydraulic effects was observed along the whole slide track due to strongly varying bottom slopes and curvatures of channel bends.

The numerical analysis of the water flow along the 'Wild River' type water slide is presented. As the mathematical model of the free surface flow shallow water equations are assumed. In order to solve the equations, when transient, rapidly varied flow is present, the numerical scheme based on finite volume method is applied. The numerical simulation of water slide flow is computed on unstructured, triangular mesh. The results of calculation are examined against flow parameters observed on the real object installed in water park in Sopot. Generally good agreement between measured and calculated results was observed. Moreover, the calculations are compared to experimental data available due to physical modelling. As the similarity between physical phenomena of flow within water slide and in the river valley after dam-break event is observed, the investigation was realized within the framework of the State Committee for Scientific Research 6P06S04121 project.

One explicit and three implicit finite volume method schemes of the Roe type are presented in the paper. The properties and applicability of these methods for modelling unsteady, rapidly varied, open channel flow are investigated. The schemes are used for numerical simulation of one-dimensional extreme flow described by de Saint-Venant equations. The computational results are compared with each other and an analytical (exact) solution to an idealized dam-break problem. The classical versions of general scheme implicit in time - fully implicit and trapezoidal scheme - are not restricted by a stability condition, like an explicit one, however they add some numerical diffusion and dispersion errors to the solution. The modification of parameter , originally proposed for a box scheme of finite difference method, has improved computational properties of the general one-step implicit scheme. This version of finite volume scheme of the Roe type implicit in time can be recommended for modelling and simulation of transient flows in storm sewers and open channel networks.

For approximation of mass and momentum fluxes the Roe method is used. The calculations are examined against the experimental data. The measured variations of water depth at some control points of flooded area are available due to physical modelling. The aim of these experiments was to simulate a flood in the area where a building group representing a simplified city configuration was introduced.

The paper concerns numerical simulations of flood wave propagation in an urban area resulting from a river embankment failure. Simulations have been performed to predict and analyze the parameters of flash and catastrophic flow in a developed area with the aim of presenting numerical calculations useful for identification of inundation zones. The shallow water equations were assumed as the mathematical model of free-surface unsteady water flow. A numerical scheme of the finite volume method was applied to solve the model equations and the Roe method used to approximate the mass and momentum fluxes. Two test cases of embankment failure are investigated in the paper. The aim of one experiment is to simulate a flood in a model city area, where a group of buildings representing a simplified urban configuration was introduced. In order to verify the calculations, numerical results were examined against experimental data available from laboratory measurements. An experiment of the model city's flooding event was carried out at the hydraulic laboratory of the Gdansk University of Technology. The other test case concerns flash flood simulation on an embanked developed area of real topography.
