Old age and family are one of the most permanent and strongly exploited cultural motives. The article is about the literatural conceptualization of advantages and disadvantages of old age with microstructural family relations background. We will be interested in what extent the literature was being able to write down the senior’s transformations in family, determined by cultural and social stereotypes. We will show 3 faces of the old man: static sage-patriarch, anachronic/irritating fool and abandoned and unloved alien.

W tekście opisujemy różne strategie realizacji misji regionalistycznej od schyłku XIX wieku do początku XXI wieku. Uwzględniamy specyficzną sytuację geopolityczną, jakiej podporządkowane były przedsięwzięcia ruchu regionalistycznego na przestrzeni lat, piszemy o sposobach dystrybucji wiedzy o małej ojczyźnie i o służbie idei państwa. Naszymi bohaterami czynimy trzech wybitnych reprezentantów rodu Ogrodzińskich: filologa Wincentego Ogrodzińskiego, publicystę i animatora kultury Władysława Ogrodzińskiego oraz dziennikarza Wojciecha Ogrodzińskiego.
In the text we describe different strategies of realisation of regional mission from the end of XIXth century to the beggining of the XXIst century. We take specific geopolitical situation into account, which included activities of regional movement over the years, we write about the ways of distribution of knowledge about motherland and about service towards nation idea. Our characters are three genuine representants of family Ogrodzińscy: philologist Wincent Ogrodziński, publicist and cultural animator Władysław Ogrodziński and journalist Wojciech Ogrodziński.

The aim of the article is a description of the activity of POP PZPR at ZLP in Olsztyn in the sphere of developing of local literary environment and a character of literature which was written in this area. The analysis aims at establishing the role of POP as for: aims of the literature, assessment of conditions of the writers’ work and the relations with other organizations. The subject of analysis are the archives POP PZPR at Olsztyn department of ZLP which are kept in Archiwum Państwowe in Olsztyn.

In this article, we consider the myth of the 2nd Independent Polish Republic, written in the reportage Sztafeta by Melchior Wańkowicz. We study the image of the country from the historical, cultural, social and esthetic perspective. The industrial reportages will be a reason to look into Wańkowicz’s thoughts on a geopolitical position of Poland in Europe, the idea of power, colonialism, solving social and economical problems.
W artykule podejmuje się refleksję nad mitem niepodległej Rzeczypospolitej zapisanym w reportażu Melchiora Wańkowicza Sztafeta. Badamy wizerunek bytu państwowego w jego wymiarze historycznym, kulturowym, społecznym i estetycznym. Reportaże przemysłowe będą pretekstem do zbadania poglądów Wańkowicza na temat geopolitycznej pozycji państwa polskiego w Europie, idei mocarstwowości, polityki kolonialnej, rozwiązania problemów społecznych i ekonomicznych.

W tym artykule przedmiotem obserwacji uczynimy reportaże Włodzimierza Nowaka poświęcone polskiej prowincji przełomu XX i XXI wieku. Pytać będziemy o oblicza polskiej lokalności przede wszystkim w społecznościach peryferyjnych, z niskim poziomem cywilizacyjnym i kulturalnym, które poniosły największe koszty reformy. Opiszemy trudny proces upodmiotowienia społeczności lokalnych, drogę do wypracowania procedur i struktur działań lokalnych, budowę więzi interpersonalnych. Odnotujemy też zarejestrowane przez reportaż narodziny społeczności lokalnych nowego typu o zredukowanym związku z danym terytorium.
In this article Włodzimierz Nowak’s reports about polish province on the borderland of XX and XXI century are the objects of observation. We will be asking about the image of polish local communities on the outskirts, with low rate of civilization and infrastructure, which were the most touched by the results of the reforms. We will describe difficult process of raising the importance of local communities, the way of formulating the procedures and structures of local activities, creating of interpersonal bonds. We will also pay attention to the birth of local communities of new type with weak connection with their territories.

The article analyzes an extensive nonfiction book by Emilia Smechowski, a Polish-born author who relocated to Germany as a child. The purpose of the examination is to determine how the migrant and post-migrant experience influenced the author and her characters. The paper looks at the consequences of the tensions resulting from the migrant background as regards genre choices (reportage/self-reportage/autobiography), thematic interests (the text grew between cultures and languages), and identity definitions. The book is approached as an identity and emancipation project of the speaking subject. It is an account of coping with difficult post-migrant experiences on a micro- and macro-scale (a Polish intelligentsia family vs. German public discourse).

The objective of this research is to estimate the model risk, represented as precision, and the accuracy of the Value at Risk (VaR) measure, under three different approaches: historical simulation (HS), Monte Carlo (MC), and generalized ARCH (GARCH). In this work, to analyze the VaR model, the accuracy and precision were used. Estimation of the accuracy and precision was done under the three approaches for four European banks at 95 and 99% confidence levels. The percentage crossings and Kupiec POF were used to judge the model accuracy, whereas the ratio of the maximum and minimum VaR estimates, and the spread between the maximum and minimum VaR estimates were used to estimate the model risk. This was achieved by changing input parameters, specifically, the estimation time window (125, 250, 500 days). Implications/Recommendations: The accuracy alone is not sufficient to evaluate a model and precision is also required. The temporal evolution of the precision metrics showed that the VaR approaches were inconsistent under different market conditions. This article focuses on the accuracy and precision concepts applied to estimate model risk of the Value at Risk (VaR). VaR is the foundation for sophisticated risk metrics, including systemic risk measures like Marginal Expected Shortfall and Delta Conditional Value at Risk. Thus, understanding the risk associated with the use of VaR is crucial for finance practitioners.

The article summarises the most important issues concerning working with students with migration experiences: foreign teenagers and children, young refugees and children of repatriated persons. The article authors underline the psychological aspects and not only refer to changes in school curricula or language differences, but also discuss the cultural differences and issues such as cultural shock (experienced also by people who come back to the country of their origin), adaptive stress or post‑traumatic stress. The authors also highlight the unique abilities of the migrant students and suggest effective ways of using them in school education. The article concludes with a short presentation of the legal acts that define they ways of supporting this group of students and with a list of publications that may become a source of inspiration for anyone interested in the matter.

Celem artykułu jest próba identyfikacji wpływu kryzysu na sytuację społeczno-gospodarczą gospodarstw domowych. Badanie prowadzono na przykładzie województwa wielkopolskiego w układzie obszarów wzrostu i obszarów stagnacji społeczno-gospodarczej. Zbadano reprezentatywną grupę 1988 gospodarstw domowych (w tym 1510 na obszarach wzrostu i 478 na obszarach stagnacji) pod względem: zmian poziomu bezrobocia członków gospodarstw domowych, zmian poziomu i struktury dochodów oraz wydatków bieżących ponoszonych przez gospodarstwa domowe w dobie kryzysu, zmian poziomu zadłużenia gospodarstw domowych w dobie kryzysu, zmian w zakresie spędzania czasu wolnego i wyjazdów wakacyjnych gospodarstw domowych i zmian kierunków zachowań prorodzinnych gospodarstw domowych w dobie kryzysu. Artykuł dotyczy badań gospodarstw domowych w dobie kryzysu prowadzonych w ramach projektu badawczego „Rozwój społeczno-gospodarczy a kształtowanie się obszarów wzrostu i obszarów stagnacji gospodarczej” finansowanego ze środków Narodowego Centrum Nauki (N N306 791940). Projekt był realizowany przez Zespół Badawczy Pracowników Zakładu Analizy Regionalnej Instytutu Geografii Społeczno Ekonomicznej i Gospodarki Przestrzennej.
This article seeks to identify the effect of the current crisis on the socio-economic situation of households. The study embraced Wielkopolska voivodeship as divided into areas of growth and those of socio-economic stagnation. A representative group of 1,988 households was examined (including 1,510 in growth areas and 478 in stagnation areas) in terms of: changes in the level of unemployment among household members, changes in the level and structure of their incomes and running expenses, changes in their level of indebtedness, changes in their ways of spending leisure time and in holiday travels undertaken, and changes in their pro-family patterns of behaviour.

Celem artykułu jest analiza zróżnicowania kapitału społecznego w układzie rdzeń (miasto Poznań)–peryferie aglomeracji poznańskiej i jego zmian w latach 2009–2019. Realizacji głównego celu podporządkowano dwa pytania badawcze: (1) Jaki jest poziom kapitału społecznego w aglomeracji poznańskiej i jakie zmiany zaszły w tym zakresie w latach 2009–2019? (2) Jakie jest zróżnicowanie poziomu kapitału społecznego w układzie rdzeń–peryferie aglomeracji poznańskiej i czy nastąpiły zasadnicze zmiany w tym zakresie? Badania kapitału społecznego prowadzono w oparciu o dane publikowane i wywiady kwestionariuszowe z mieszkańcami aglomeracji. Wykorzystane w analizie wskaźniki odpowiadają trzem wyróżnionym w literaturze składnikom kapitału społecznego: strukturalnemu, regulatywnemu i behawioralnemu.
Currently, social capital is an increasingly important factor in socio-economic development, due to the important role it plays in the process of diffusion of knowledge and innovation (Chojnicki, Czyż 2004, Churski 2008, Dominiak, Konecka-Szydłowska 2012, Churski et al. 2018). The aim of the article is to analyze the diversity of social capital in Poznań agglomeration and its changes in 2009–2019. Two research questions were subordinated to the main goal: (1) What is the level of social capital in the Poznań agglomeration and what changes took place in the years 2009–2019? (2) What is the differentiation in the level of social capital in the core – periphery of the Poznań agglomeration and have there been any major changes in this respect? Social capital research was conducted on the basis of published data and questionnaire interviews with the inhabitants of the agglomeration. The indicators used in the analysis correspond to the three components of social capital identified in the literature: structural (networks, social groups and institutions), regulatory (general trust and trust in local authorities) and behavioral (social participation, cooperation, assistance). The empirical analysis carried out allowed establishing regularities regarding both diversity in the level and dynamics of development of individual components of social capital between the agglomeration core – Poznań and the peripheral zone. The results of the conducted research confirm the increase of the social capital resources, which is important in the context of their role in the socio-economic development in the era of modern economy. In a general approach, a higher level of social capital in the aspect of the regulatory and behavioral component was recorded in the peripheral agglomeration zone.

The present paper is based on the research project “(Un)easy returns home. The functioning of children and young people returning from emigration”, the main goal of which was to investigate and describe the experience of children from Polish returning migrant families, and specifically to answer the question: What kind of challenges do children from families returning to Poland face when entering the Polish educational system? We conducted qualitative research taking into consideration four perspectives: children, adolescents, parents and teachers. In this paper, we focus on the most important challenges in a new educational context based on the narrations of children, adolescents, parents and teachers and dividing the challenges into three groups: purely educational, socio-cultural and emotional. Finally, we also discuss best practices which proved helpful for children’s adaptation to the new environment and which may be used in the school context.
