Opis:: Working memory training (WMT) has recently become one of the most debated issues in the field of cognitive psychology. Since working memory (WM) is considered a strong correlate of IQ, numerous researchers have been trying to increase the latter by training the former. Proven effectiveness of working memory training could lead to its application in the therapy of many cognitive impairments. WMT could be also used as a tool of improving cognitive functioning of healthy subjects. However, almost every publication claiming to provide evidence for achieving one of above mentioned objectives has been criticised, mostly because of methodological shortcomings. The aim of my presentation is to extract potential sources of inconsistencies existing between the authors of meta-analysis and reviews of WMT research. For this reason I take a closer look at results and conclusions of several meta-analysis and reviews. As a result I point few indications that should be taken into consideration in future studies on WMT effectiveness.

Opis:: Starting with the presentation of the acts of international maritime law most relevant to the presented subject, the author describes the history of the development of international organizations and their types. Using a dogmatic and historical analysis of normative acts, he tries to find an answer to the question asked – “Is the preservation of the maritime environment a dominant perspective among the operational goals of states?”. While examining the above issue in relation to the formation and activities of international organizations, the thesis was formulated that “the coordination of efforts of international organizations in matters related to maritime resources and their effectiveness should constitute the core of considerations on the subject of the effectiveness of all kinds of international policies”. The author presents the legal and international approach to the definition of maritime resources and describes the effectiveness of the European Union’s Common Fisheries Policy.

Opis:: The author, starting with the presentation of the acts of the international law of the sea that are most relevant to the presented subject, describes the evolution of the definition of a landlocked state, and the genesis and development of the freedom of the high seas. The author, by means of the dogmatic and historical analysis of the normative acts, seeks an answer to the question: Can the occurrence of actual inequality lead to inequality or to apparent equality, manifested in normative acts? When examining the above issue in relation to the states’ experience, a thesis has been advanced about the seemingly editorial nature of the freedom of the high seas in the context of its exercise by landlocked states. This may suggest apparent inequality of states observable in the international law. The author argues that, despite some unfavourable codification changes, the landlocked states gain a number of rights that significantly reduce the discriminatory nature of the remaining provisions, and international experience shows that the position of the landlocked states in international relations is strong.

Opis:: The aim of the present article is to make a peculiar synthesis of Pope Benedict XVI’s teaching on modern culture and on new evangelization. Apart from the detailed analyses, the article is focused on showing a broad panorama of the undertaken issues. Starting from a synthetic definition of culture the author points to its close connections with evangelization on the level of the human heart. Then he goes on to show the post-Enlightenment secularism and the false anthropological conception resulting from it as the main sources of the deep crisis of culture, at present especially spread in Europe. Finally the issue of “new evangelization” is discussed with special emphasis on the role of dialog in it, that is supposed to lead to restoration of “full rationality”, more adequate to the human nature, gifted with a craving for God. Also saints and sanctity are pointed to as the basic categories of efficient evangelization and the means that allow stopping further degradation of the cultural environment of man.
