Opis:
The dedicated gravity satellite missions, in particular the GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) mission launched in 2002, provide unique data for studying temporal variations of mass distribution in the Earth’s system, and thereby, the geometry and the gravity fi eld changes of the Earth. The main objective of this contribution is to estimate physical height (e.g. the orthometric/normal height) changes over Central Europe using GRACE satellite mission data as well as to analyse them and model over the selected study area. Physical height changes were estimated from temporal variations of height anomalies and vertical displacements of the Earth surface being determined over the investigated area. The release 5 (RL05) GRACE-based global geopotential models as well as load Love numbers from the Preliminary Reference Earth Model (PREM) were used as input data. Analysis of the estimated physical height changes and their modelling were performed using two methods: the seasonal decomposition method and the PCA/ EOF (Principal Component Analysis/Empirical Orthogonal Function) method and the differences obtained were discussed. The main fi ndings reveal that physical height changes over the selected study area reach up to 22.8 mm. The obtained physical height changes can be modelled with an accuracy of 1.4 mm using the seasonal decomposition method.

Opis:
The GOCE (Gravity Field and Steady-State Ocean Circulation Explorer) has significantly upgraded the knowledge on the Earth gravity field. In this contribution the accuracy of height anomalies determined from Global Geopotential Models (GGMs) based on approximately 27 months GOCE satellite gravity gradiometry (SGG) data have been assessed over Poland using three sets of precise GNSS/levelling data. The fits of height anomalies obtained from 4th release GOCE-based GGMs to GNSS/levelling data were discussed and compared with the respective ones of 3rd release GOCE-based GGMs and the EGM08. Furthermore, two highly accurate gravimetric quasigeoid models were developed over the area of Poland using high resolution Faye gravity anomalies. In the first, the GOCE-based GGM was used as a reference geopotential model, and in the second – the EGM08. They were evaluated with GNSS/levelling data and their accuracy performance was assessed. The use of GOCE-based GGMs for recovering the long-wavelength gravity signal in gravimetric quasigeoid modelling was discussed.
Misja GOCE (Gravity Field and Steady-State Ocean Circulation Explorer) przyczyniła się do znacznego poprawienia znajomości pola siły ciężkości Ziemi. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki oszacowania dokładności anomalii wysokości, wyznaczonych z globalnych modeli geopotencjału opracowanych na podstawie blisko 27 miesięcy pomiarów z satelitarnej misji gradiometrycznej GOCE. Do oszacowania wykorzystano trzy zbiory dokładnych danych satelitarno-niwelacyjnych z obszaru Polski.

Opis:
Time variations of the gravity field derived from time series of geopotential model developed from GRACE data can be interpreted in terms of geoid heights, and mass time variations with unprecedented temporal resolution. Following the results of authors previous research presented at 2nd General Assembly of the IGFS, 20-22 September 2010, Fairbanks, Alaska, the series of monthly solutions of geopotential models developed from GRACE data in JPL, filtered with the use of DKK1 filter, and GLDAS hydrological model were used in the analyses. Variations of hydrology as well as variations of geoid heights for the period August 2002 – June 2010 at the continental part of Europe and selected 14 subareas were estimated with spatial resolution of 0.5° x 0.5° . Variations in mass distribution obtained from geopotential models were compared with the respective results obtained from hydrological data. Models of geoid height changes (parameters of trend and seasonal variations) were determined for the area of Europe and for 14 subareas. To verify models of geoid height changes, over the period July 2010 - October 2010 values of geoid height changes calculated using GRACE data were compared with values based on the models developed.

Opis:
Introduction: Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) is one of the most common autoimmune thyroid disorders and o the most common cause of hypothyroidism, but the relation between TSH and body mass is still unclear. Material and methods: The group studied consisted of 53 patients with HT in euthyreosis and 28 healthy individuals. All the patients underwent thyroid ultrasonography and body mass analysis with the use of a medical analyzer INBODY 200. Blood samples were also analyzed for TSH and anti-thyroid antibodies. Results: The patients with HT had higher body mass (p=0.008), body mass index (BMI) (p=0.02), Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR) (0.01) and fat mass (p=0.02) than had the controls. In HT group increased body mass was observed in 72% of the patients (overweight in 38% and obesity in 35% of them), as compared with 38% of overweight/obesity in the control group. Thyroid volume was significantly lower (p=0.01) and anti-peroxidase antibodies level was two times higher in the group with the treatment period > 2 years, but the patients with relatively short treatment period were 7 kg heavier and their fat mass was 6 kg higher than in the subjects treated longer than 2 years. Conclusions: Our results suggest that the patients with HT, even in euthyreosis, have significantly higher body mass, BMI, WHR and fat mass than healthy individuals, which is probably associated with previous disturbances that led to the increase in fat mass at the stage of hypothyroidism. The observed changes tend to normalize during L-thyroxine replacement therapy.

Glucagonoma

peptide receptor radionuclide therapy
Opis:
Introduction: Glucagonoma is a rare pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor derived from alpha-cells of the islet of Langerhans. Due to oversecretion of glucagon it is associated with a characteristic paraneoplastic phenomenon, called glucagonoma syndrome, which consists of necrolytic migratory erythema (NME), weight loss, diabetes mellitus, diarrhea, normochromic normocytic anemia, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism and neuropsychiatric disturbances. Treatment modalities include surgical removal of tumor, somatostatin analogs and peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT). Case report: We present a case of 61-year-old woman diagnosed with glucagonoma in April 2012. Initially, body-caudal pancreatomy and resection of regional lymph nodes were performed. Five months after surgery, a PET-CT scan detected pathological mass with expression of somatostatin receptors in pancreatic body and metastases to regional lymph nodes. What is more, since April 2014 the patient had complained about persistent pruritus of the entire body. At present, due to the nonsurgical pancreatic mass and metastases she is treated with somatostatin analogs and PRRT. During this therapy the pruritus had decreased and currently there is no sign of cutaneous disease. Moreover, reduction of tumor size was obtained. Conclusions: PRRT may reduce tumor size and by reducing bothersome symptoms substantially improve the quality of life in patients with SSTR-positive tumors
