Total antixodative effect is difficult to predict because the total antiradical capacity depends not only on properties of individual compounds, but also on their mutual interactions. The study examined the effect of the addition of Ginkgo biloba antioxidants to refined rapeseed oil on the stabilization of the oil and its triacylglycerols, measured by an Oxidograph accelerated oxidative stability test and the Rancimat test. The mineral composition of oil was also determined. The tested samples were observed to respond differently in terms of the induction period, which was the longest periods for ethanolic extracts, and the shortest for aqueoeus ones. The highest values of the protective factor were observed in the samples with added ethanolic extract of green leaves, while the lowest ones were noted in all aqueous extracts. In all the tested samples, values of the protection factor increased along with the growing extract concentration in a sample. Among the tested additives, butylated hydroxytoluene added to a sample of oil resulted in the longest induction period. Among the analysed microelements, iron was the prevalent one, with its concentration being significantly higher in water extracts. The least abundant was selenium. The antioxidative capacity of Ginkgo biloba extract resulted from the presence of transitional metals and polyphenols, as the presence of zinc, copper and iron affects the bioavailability of flavonoids. Negative relationships were noted between microelements in the extracts and its oxidative stability, which indicated the oxidative activity of the former. G. biloba extracts may be a new source of stabilising additives for high-fat foods. However, further reasearch I needed to confirm this assumption, particularly because food is a complex matrix, in which ingredients might interact with one another, causing higher or lower antioxidative capacity

Introduction. Various Acanthamoeba species are free-living organisms widely distributed in the human environment. Amphizoic amoebae as facultative parasites may cause vision-threatening eye disease – Acanthamoeba keratitis, mostly among contact lens wearers. As the number of cases is increasing, and applied therapy often unsuccessful, proper hygienic measures and effective contact lenses disinfection are crucial for the prevention of this disease. Available contact lens solutions are not fully effective against amphizoic amoebae; there is a need to enhance their disinfecting activity to prevent amoebic infections. The use of developing nanotechnology methods already applied with success in the prevention, diagnostic and therapy of other infectious diseases might be helpful regarding amoebic keratitis. This study assesses the in vitro effect of selected contact lens solutions conjugated with nanoparticles against Acanthamoeba trophozoites. Materials and method. Three selected contact lens solutions conjugated with silver and gold nanoparticles in concentration of 0.25–2.5 ppm were used in vitro against the axenically cultured ATCC 30010 type Acanthamoeba castellanii strain. The anti-amoebic efficacy was examined based on the oxido-reduction of AlamarBlue. The cytotoxicity tests based on the measurement of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity were performed using a fibroblast HS-5 cell line. Results. Enhancement of the anti-amoebic activity of contact lens solutions conjugated with selected nanoparticles expressed in the dose dependent amoebic growth inhibition with a low cytotoxicity profile was observed. Conclusions. Results of the study showed that conjugation of selected contact lens solutions with silver nanoparticles might be a promising approach to prevent Acanthamoeba keratitis among contact lens users.

Purpose: Carbon nanotubes are used in composite materials due to the improvement of (including tribological) properties of composites, especially thermoplastic matrix composites. This demonstrates the potential of CNTs and the validity of research on determining the impact of this type of reinforcement on the composite materials under development. Design/methodology/approach: The article presents selected results of research on polymer composites made of C.E.S. R70 resin, C.E.S. H72 hardener with the addition of a physical friction modifier (CNTs) with a percentage by volume of 18.16% and 24.42%, respectively, which also acts as a reinforcement. The produced material was subjected to hardness measurements according to the Shore method and EDS analysis. The study of abrasive wear in reciprocating movement was carried out using the Taber Linear Abraser model 5750 tribotester and a precision weight. The surface topography of the composite material after tribological tests was determined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Some of the mentioned tests were carried out on samples made only of resin, used as the matrix of the tested polymer composite. Findings: Carbon nanotubes used in polymer matrix composites, including bisphenol A/F epoxy resin have an influence on the tribological properties of the material. The addition of carbon nanotubes contributed to a 24% increase in the Ra parameter relative to pure resin, to a level corresponding to rough grinding of steel. Research limitations/implications: The results of the tests indicate the need to continue research in order to optimize the composition of composites in terms of operating parameters of friction nodes in broadly understood aviation. Originality/value: The analysed literature did not find any studies on the impact of the addition of carbon nanotubes on epoxy resins based on bisphenol A/F. Due to the wide scope of application of such resins, the properties of such composite materials in which carbon nanotubes are the reinforcing phase have been investigated.

In order to improve the quality of the environment, it is necessary to make various types of investments in it. The Sustainable Development Initiative assumes that the economic growth of countries should be implemented in a manner consistent with the natural conditions of nature. The aim of this study was to identify and present the current possibilities of financing sustainability in Poland after joining the European Union, taking into account the risk of undertaking such an investment.

The aim of this article is to present findings concerning the thermo-protective research into ablative materials. The authors analysed the impact of the addition of carbon nanotubes upon the selected ablation properties, i.e. the ablation mass waste, average linear rate of ablation and the backside temperature of the specimens. The performed tests as well as the obtained findings allowed formulating a number of conclusions, which are useful in creating future composites. Composition of individual test samples; ablation testing; average relative ablation mass loss, depending on the volume share of carbon nanotubes; average ablation rate, depending on the volume share of carbon nanotubes; temperature of the rear surface of the insulating sample, depending on the volume share of carbon nanotubes; temperature inside the composite, depending on the volume share of carbon nanotubes; comparison of the temperature of ablation surface, temperature inside the composite and temperature on the rear surface of the wall of carbon nanotubes after the exposition to a heat flux are presented in the article.

The wing is the main aircraft construction element, whose main task is to produce the lift, balancing the aircraft weight as well as ensuring the execution of all flight states for which the aircraft was designed. The selection of appropriate airfoils or the development of new ones is one of the most important constructions goals. As a rule, constructors aim at ensuring a sufficiently large lift with little aerodynamic drag in order to increase the scope of utility angles of attack and such shaping of these characteristics so that the aircraft performance, close to the critical angles of attack, guarantees an adequate level of safety. One of the methods of improving the aerodynamic properties of airfoils is the Kline-Fogleman modification. It involves an application of a step into the airfoil contour at a place. It enforces the creation of a swirling air stream, preventing the separation and maintaining airflow over the profile and thus the reduction of drags, as well as delaying separation. The use of this type of a solution is justified when designing unmanned aerial vehicles, of small sizes, which move with slow speeds and sometimes-large angles of attack, including those close to critical angels of attack. The Kline-Fogleman modification decreases the likelihood of aircraft stalling. The aim of this work is to present an analysis of airflow over NACA0012 airfoil with Kline-Fogleman modification. The calculations were made by solving the problem of numerical fluid mechanics. For calculations, the Comsol Maribor programme was used. The investigation focused on several different airfoil modifications (KFm-1, KFm-2, KFm-3). This enabled a selection of a solution, providing the most desirable aerodynamic characteristics.

The current article presents an example of a consecutive interpreting activity, which draws on the concept of autonomy in language learning. With regard to the "applied" component of translation studies, as formulated by Holmes (1988), the authors intend to demonstrate the need for enhancingforeign language competence in translator education, accentuating its role in the conceptualization of the discipline. Considering the context of this type of education, which is offered frequently to undergraduate students, the authors posit the need to concomitantly develop the command of a foreign language. They propose to compensate teaching practices derived from translation studies with the use of foreign language methodology for developing translating and interpreting skills.

The expansion of geographic information systems contributes to the development of an information society that increasingly uses geoinformation data in all areas of life. GIS also enters the economic and scientific realm of the real estate market, slowly displacing analogue price registers and real estate values. With the use of GIS tools, many issues in this area (e.g. sales / purchase, rental, average sales prices) can be presented on maps, and the wide database provides many possibilities for carrying out a variety of analyses. The aim of this article is to use the selected GIS technology to analyse the value of real estate in Kołobrzeg. Using the secondary data from the price and property register spanning the years 2013–2016 the value of undeveloped land has been analysed. The analysis was presented by two different methods: cartodiagram and cartogram, and then the results were compared and interpreted. The maps that were developed during the process of analysis provide accessible information about the distribution of real estate values for property valuers as well as potential buyers and sellers.

Assessment of viability of oak seeds is mainly performed by mechanical scarification followed by visual assessment by trained employees. This procedure is slow and prone to human errors, thus automation of this process is desirable. Shortening the design of complex automation systems requires the use of modern methods, allowing for modeling and simulation of systems containing elements of mechanical, electrical and digital components. The article presents selected aspects of the design of control algorithms for the acorn scarification prototype. A virtual prototyping and Model-Based Design (MBD) approach have been used.
Jedną ze stosowanych metod badania zmian mumifikacyjnych nasion jest skaryfikacja mechaniczna, połączona ze wzrokową oceną żywotności nasion przez człowieka. Ręcznie wykonywana procedura jest powolna i podatna na błędy, dlatego też automatyzacja tego procesu jest pożądana. Skrócenie czasu projektowania złożonych systemów automatyki wymaga stosowania nowoczesnych metod, pozwalających na modelowanie i symulację systemów zawierających elementy zarówno mechaniczne, elektryczne, jak i podzespoły cyfrowe. W artykule zaprezentowano wybrane aspekty projektowania algorytmów sterujących stanowiska badawczego do skaryfikacji żołędzi. Do rozwoju stanowiska badawczego wykorzystano wirtualne prototypowanie oraz metodykę projektowania opartą na modelu (MBD - ang. Model-Based Design).

During the project a technology of making ceramic moulds using aluminosilicate microspheres was developed. According to the developed technology, ceramic samples were used to determine thermal conductivity in the temperature range of 500°C to 850°C. In this temperature range, thermal conductivity is about 0.5 W/mK. Strength measurements were conducted using a four-point bending technique. The strength of the developed ceramics and typical ceramics made from molochite materials is similar. Computer simulations facilitated the design of experimental moulds. The recording of Al alloy cooling curves in rectangular insulated and non-insulated moulds allowed for comparison of the thermal parameters of both types of moulds (i.e. ceramics). There was also a castability test performed using the moulds with a “grille” model with 1.5 × 1.5 mm channels, which determined the effect of increased material insulation on the number of properly filled mesh of the mould.

Prezentowany referat, jak i wykonane prace wstępne pokażą, że możliwa jest budowa quasiatonomicznego, cichego i bezemisyjnego systemu zasilania, bazującego na technologii wodorowej i odnawialnych źródłach energii, przystosowanego do pracy w warunkach rzeczywistych (wysokie i niskie temperatury otoczenia) i mogącego zastąpić funkcjonalnie tradycyjny, spalinowy zespół prądotwórczy. Efekt ten uzyskano poprzez doświadczalne badania zaprezentowanych w pracy podzespołów systemu i analityczne zintegrowanie różnych źródeł energii elektrycznej tak, aby wytworzyć hybrydowy układ źródeł prądu, zdolny do zasilania środków wspomagających akcje prowadzone przez sztaby zarządzania kryzysowego podczas klęsk żywiołowych itp. W pracy przedstawiony jest sposób doświadczalnego doboru poszczególnych elementów każdego z podsystemów oraz układów zarządzania ich pracą, który w efekcie powinien pozwolić na wskazanie, że jest możliwa autonomiczna praca urządzenia w przypadku konieczności długiego samodzielnego działania bez kontaktu z zapleczem logistycznym. Praca prezentuje możliwości wykorzystania odnawialnych źródeł energii elektrycznej do jednoczesnej pracy systemu z pełnym obciążeniem i magazynowania energii do regeneracji systemu wodorowego (wytworzenia wodoru do samodzielnego cyklu pracy) i podtrzymywania gotowości urządzenia. Przedstawiona w pracy propozycja urządzenia integruje kluczowe technologie, takie jak: nowoczesne baterie akumulatorów, niekonwencjonalne źródła energii – ogniwa paliwowe, odnawialne źródła energii – ogniwa fotowoltaiczne, generator wiatrowy oraz blok systemu zarządzania energią optymalizujący współpracę wszystkich komponentów.
The paper presented and preliminary work show that is possible to build quasiautonomic, silent and emission-free power system based on hydrogen technology and renewable energy sources, adapted to work in real conditions (high and low ambient temperatures) and likely functionally replace traditional, combustion generator. This effect was obtained by experimental studies of the working components of the system presented in the paper and the analytical integration of different sources of energy, so as to produce a hybrid system of power source capable of powering equipment used by the crisis management staff during natural disasters , etc. The work will present experimental means for selection of individual elements of each of the subsystems, as described below, and systems to manage their work, which in effect should allow to demonstrate that autonomous operation of the unit in case of a necessity long, independent operation without contact with logistics facilities is possible. The paper will present the possibilities of using renewable energy sources for simultaneous operation of the system with a full load and energy storage system for the regeneration of hydrogen (hydrogen to produce a self-cycle) and maintaining the state of readiness. The device presented integrates essential technologies, such as modern batteries, unconventional energy sources – fuel cells, renewable energy – photovoltaic cells (PV), wind power generator and block energy management system which optimizes the cooperation of all the components.
