Opis:
Richter’s syndrome (RS) is a rare complication in which chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) transforms into a more aggressive type of lymphoma – diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL), or Hodgkin’s lymphoma (HL). The review describes the clinical case of a patient with CLL and RS diagnosis. A computed tomography (CT) scan of the abdominal cavity detected numerous normodense areas in the liver. Simultaneously, ultrasound examination (USG) of the thyroid revealed the presence of a solid hypoechogenic lump. The material sampled from closed biopsies of liver and thyroid in both cases allowed the diagnosis of diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The liver and the thyroid are particularly rare locations of RS. However, those cases allowed the conclusion that RS may occur even in a very unexpected and less probable location.

The Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) became mandatory for new ships as well as the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) for all ships due to the MEPC 62 (July 2011) along with the adoption of amendments to MARPOL Annex VI by the Parties to the MARPOL Annex VI. This was the first legally binding climate change treaty to be adopted since the Kyoto Protocol. The Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP), which has been obligatory since 2013, did not to cover fishing cutters but triggered the implementation of energy efficiency audits due to fishing limits, high fuel prices, and free freight market. A research team of the Maritime University of Szczecin conducted energy efficiency audits on several fishing vessels operated on the Baltic Sea and provided the results to the shipowners. On their grounds, the shipowners started seeking methods to reduce energy consumption. They began modernizing the vessels using the information collected in the reports on energy audits. Usually, the modernization process is performed in severa stages. Apart from energy recovery installations, fishing vessels were furnished with the latest technologies aimed at the reduction of energy consumption and at making ships greener. The paper presents results of the said process at the selected fishing cutters operating on the Baltic Sea. The paper includes also the recommendations on the directions of the following stages of the audits.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to estimate the susceptibility of a tuft (ssp. commutata – cultivar Mirena) and creeping (ssp. rubra – cultivar Nista) forms of Festuca rubra to infestation by pathogenic fungi and the effect of chemical protection on the health of plants grown for seeds. The study was conducted in 2004-2006 (first series) and in 2005-2007 (second series) at the Experimental Variety Testing Station in Chrząstowo (53°09’ N; 17°35’ E). Fungicides containing azoxystrobin, prochloraz and propiconazole were applied for protection against fungal pathogens. The assessment of disease symptom intensity was conducted in the summer and autumn periods based on modified scales by Birckenstaedt et al. [1994]. In the establisment and production years we found a moderate infestation of red fescue of the cultivars Mirena and Nista by pathogenic fungi. Highest values of leaf disease index at a level of DI = 16.9% were registered in the case of leaf spots. Occurrence of rust and powdery mildew stayed at a lower level. Presence of Microdochium nivale was registered sporadically. Higher susceptibility of the creeping cultivar Nista to infestation by fungi causing leaf spots and powdery mildew was observed. In the vast majority of cases applying chemical protection significantly decreased a degree of plant infestation in the summer period.
Ocenę nasilenia objawów chorobowych wykonywano w okresie letnim i jesiennym w oparciu o zmodyfikowane skale Birckenstaedt et al. [1994].

A research team of the Maritime University of Szczecin conducted energy efficiency audits on several fishing vessels operated on the Baltic Sea and stated that up to 40% of the energy is used during fishing operations by hydraulic devices installed at the fishing vessels. The paper presents the measurement results of energy consumption in typical operational states based on a selected fishing cutter operating at the Baltic Sea. The paper includes also the recommendations in terms modernization of hydraulic installations and the changes of control methods for devices with hydraulic drive. The calculations are also presented herein and they prove that it is possible to reduce energy consumption by a fishing cutter even by 20% while maintaining the unchanged operating parameters of the hydraulic devices.
