In this paper, chemometric approaches based on cluster analysis, classical and robust principal component analysis were employed to identify water quality in Daya Bay (DYB), China. The results show that these approaches divided water quality in DYB into two groups: stations S3, S8, S10 and S11 belong to cluster A, which lie in Dapeng Cove, Aotou Harbor and the north-eastern part of DYB, where water quality is related mainly to anthropogenic activities. The other stations belong to cluster B, which lie in the southern, central and eastern parts of DYB, where the quality is related mainly to water exchange with the South China Sea. Cluster analysis yields good results as a first exploratory method for evaluating spatial difference, but it fails to demonstrate the relationship between variables and environmental quality on the one hand and the untreated data on the other. However, with the aid of suitable chemometric approaches, the relationship between samples or variables can be investigated. Classical and robust principal component analysis can provide a visual aid for identifying the water environment in DYB, and then extracting specific information about relationships between variables and spatial variation trends in water quality.

Evidence of brachiopod shell infestation by tube dwelling parasitic–commensal organisms is very rare in the fossil record. The oldest record of this kind of biotic interaction is known as Eodiorygma acrotretophilia from the Early Cambrian phosphatic acrotretoid Linnarsonia. The youngest evidence of parasitic infestation was documented in the Early Cretaceous rhynchonellide Peregrinella multicarinata. Two other records of vermiform tubes inside brachiopod shells come from the Devonian. These are Diorygma atrypophilia, infesting Givetian atrypide shells, and Burrinjuckia spiriferidophilia, found in some Emsian spiriferides. Here we describe the fifth record of this kind of infestation for which a name Haplorygma dorsalis ichnogen. et ichnosp. nov. is proposed. The tubular infestation structure was revealed in two silicified dorsal valves of spirolophous brachiopods found in the Mississippian Muhua Formation of the Southern China. The affinity of the tube−dwelling organism is rather enigmatic, but its annelid relationship and kleptoparasitic nature seems highly probable. In addition, the phoronid affinity of Diorygma is here questioned.

Opis:
The ε→γ phase transition of HNIW induced by heat was investigated with in situ X-ray powder diffraction (PXRD). The effects of purity, particle size, insensitive additives and the time of isothermal heat treatment on the phase transition were evaluated. It was found that the phase transition is irreversible with changes in temperature, and the two phases can coexist in a certain temperature range. Moreover, the initial phase transition temperature increases with increasing purity and decreasing particle size of HNIW, and thus with the approximate crystal density. The addition of graphite and paraffin wax to HNIW as insensitive additives leads to a decrease in the initial phase transition temperature, but the addition of TATB does not affect the initial phase transition temperature. Thus, TATB is a suitable insensitive additive. Moreover, at the critical temperature, the isothermal time determined the efficiency of the ε- to γ-phase transition. This work lays the foundations for the choice of molding technologies, performance test methods, ammunition storage options, as well as the manufacture of HNIW-based explosive formulations.

Opis:
Based on the theory of heat transfer, the influence of expansion joints on the temperature and stress distribution of ladle lining is discussed. In view of the current expansion joint, the mathematical model of heat transfer and the three dimensional finite element model of ladle lining brick are established. By analyzing the temperature and stress distribution of ladle lining brick when the expansion joints are in different sizes, the thermal mechanical stress caused by the severe temperature difference can be reduced by the suitable expansion joint of the lining brick during the ladle baking and working process. The analysis results showed that the thermal mechanical stress which is caused by thermal expansion can be released through the 2 mm expansion joint, which is set in the building process. So we can effectively reduce the thermal mechanical stress of the ladle lining, and there is no risk of steel leakage, thus the service life of ladle can be effectively prolonged.

Thermal behavior and microstructure of $Fe_{81 - x}Co_{x}Zr_7Nb_2B_{10}$ (x = 2, 4, 6) alloys were investigated by differential thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction. Both the supercooled liguid region Δ $T_{x}$ and the first crystallization peak temperature $T_{p1}$ are the lowest and the span Δ $T_{p}$ between $T_{p1}$ and $T_{p2}$ is the highest when 4 at.% Fe is substituted by Co. The crystallization activation energy $E_{p1}$ for $Fe_{75}Co_6Zr_7Nb_2B_{10}$ alloy is the minimum for the heating rates ν = 5-20 K/min. $E_{p1}$ for $Fe_{77}Co_4Zr_7Nb_2B_{10}$ alloy is the minimum for the heating rates ν = 20 - 50 K/min. The crystallization processes of $Fe_{81 - x}Co_{x}Zr_7Nb_2B_{10}$ (x = 2, 4, 6) amorphous alloys are similar on the whole, which is as follows: amorphous → amorphous + α-Fe(Co) → α-Fe(Co) + $Fe_3Zr$ + $Fe_2Nb_{0.4}Zr_{0.6}$.

Experimental data related to C2HCl3 (TCE) removal in dry and humid (200-1000 ppm of H2O) air, respectively, in ambient conditions under electron beam irradiation in the dose range of 1-40 kGy has been published in the literature. Based on the experimental results a theoretical model of C2HCl3 decomposition was proposed for the kinetic mechanism of such process. The active radicals of Cl, O and OH play an important role in the decomposition of TCE. According to the calculations performed, the Cl- dissociative electron attachment predominates in the initial stage of C2HCl3 decomposition. Cl radical accelerates this degradation by chain process in both humid and dry air, respectively. The OH radical produced in humid air also enhances the decomposition process of TCE.

Chlorocresol nanoemulsion disinfectant (CND) is an environmental disinfectant prepared with nanoemulsion as its drug carrier. This study aimed to investigate the bactericidal effect of CND on Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus) and its effect on bacterial ultrastructure. The neutralizing effect of CND against S. aureus was first screened by suspension quantitative evaluation experiment procedure of neutralizer. Disinfection performance was evaluated by the determination of Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC), quantitative bactericidal experiment, and comparative experiment of disinfection performance between 0.1% CND and 0.1% chlorocresol aqueous solution. Meanwhile, the effect of CND on the ultrastructure of S. aureus was investigated with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) to preliminarily explore the bactericidal mechanism. The results showed that 3% Tween-80 in PBS could be screened as the neutralizer of CND against S. aureus. MIC and MBC were 100 μg/mL and 200 μg/mL, respectively. The bactericidal rates were all 100% when 0.06% and 0.08% disinfectant acted for 15 and 5 min, respectively. Furthermore, compared with 0.1% chlorocresol aqueous solution, the bactericidal effect of 0.1% CND was significantly enhanced (p<0.01). After treatment with CND for 10 min, SEM observation showed that the morphology of S. aureus cells were changed and the integrity destroyed. TEM observation showed that the cell shape changed, and the structures of the cell wall, cell membrane and cytoplasm were damaged in varying degrees. CND showed the strong bactericidal effect on S. aureus and could cause ultrastructure alterations of S. aureus.

The thermal damage in octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocine (HMX) based plastic-bonded explosive (PBX) was investigated using in situ small-angle neutron and X-ray scattering techniques. The microstructural evolution was quantitatively characterized by the model fitting parameters of total interfacial surface area (Sv) and void volume distribution. The Sv of HMX-PBX decreased markedly above 100 °C, indicating the movement of binder into the voids. After subsequent cooling to room temperature, the scattering intensity increased significantly with increasing storage time, and a new population of voids with average diameter of 20 nm was observed, accompanied by the gradual phase transition of HMX from δ- to β-phase. The experimental results implied that serious damage within the HMX-PBX was developed during storage after heating.

New experimental data related to the removal of C2H2Cl2 and C2HCl3 in dry and humid (300 ppm of H2O) air at atmospheric pressure and a temperature of 25°C under the influence of electron beam in the dose range 1 < D < 100 kGy are published. Taking into account these experimental data, theoretical models of the decomposition of both compounds and computer simulations were performed by the present authors to find the kinetics of such processes. The influence of active atoms Cl, O and OH radicals on the VOC degradation process has been established. The theoretical model of C2H2Cl2 degradation under the influence of electron beam in dry and humid air describes the C2H2Cl2 decay and formation of the main products like Cl2, COCl2, CO, CO2, HCl, HCOCl and C2H2Cl2O. The results of calculation of the kinetics of C2H2Cl2 decomposition were compared with data obtained experimentally for the C2H2Cl2 concentration range 321-2213 ppm. It was established that the relation between the rate constants of intermediate product decomposition: C2H2Cl3O Ţ C2H2Cl2O + Cl; (k1) C2H2Cl3O Ţ COCl2 + CH2C2; (k2) should be k1/k2 = 40. The theoretical model of C2HCl3 degradation under the influence of electron beam in dry and humid air describes the C2HCl3 decay and formation of the main products like Cl2, COCl2, CO, CO2, HCl, HCOCl and C2HCl3O. A detailed comparison of experimental and theoretical data for the C2HCl3 concentration 108-3206 ppm shows that the relation between the rate constants of intermediate product decomposition: C2HCl4O Ţ C2HCl3O + Cl; (k3) C2HCl4O Ţ COCl2 + CHCl2; (k4) should be k3/k4 =10. It was also found that O2+ ions have been formed in a gas mixture as a result of charge transfer process from N2+ ions, partly in excited form, which may lead to charge transfer to C2HCl3 and degradation of those particles. According to performed calculation, it can be stated that in humid air (300 ppm of H2O) VOC degradation is occurring mainly due to a chain reaction stimulated by Cl atoms, but also OH radicals are playing an important role. In the described gas mixture, the OH radicals are formed in the following reactions: O2+) + H2O + M Ţ (O2+)H2O + M O2+ (H2O) + H2O Ţ O2 + (H3O+)OH (H3O+)OH + H2O Ţ H3O+ + OH + H2O VOC degradation process under the influence of electron beam is more effective in humid air than in dry air for the same initial VOC concentration level. Three kinds of precursor thin films with stacking orders of Cu/Sn/ZnS, Cu/Sn/ZnS/Cu/Sn/ZnS and Cu/Sn/ZnS/Cu/Sn/ZnS/Cu/Sn/ZnS were prepared by magnetron sputtering and annealed with sulfur powder. The microstructure, morphology and optical properties of thin films were investigated by X-ray diffraction, the Raman scattering, scanning electron microscopy and UV-visible spectrophotometer. The increase of cycle number decreases the sulfurizing temperature of the formation of Cu₂ZnSnS₄ phase. Chemical composition can be controlled by cycle sputtering deposition. After sulfurizing at 500°C, the particle size and the band gap increase with increasing cycle number.

In this study, the polyacrylic acid (PAA) was studied as a selective depressant for calcite in the selective flotation of fluorite and calcite, and the implications of this process for the separation of fluorite ore were studied using micro-flotation tests, and the results were analyzed with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses. The flotation tests indicated that the preferential adsorption of PAA onto calcite rather than sodium oleate (NaOl) could selectively depress the flotation of calcite, allowing its separation from fluorite at pH 7. The zeta potential of calcite became more negative with the addition of PAA rather than with NaOl. However, the characteristic features of PAA adsorption were not observed for fluorite, suggesting that NaOl preferentially adsorbed on the surface of fluorite, or that PAA could be replaced by NaOl on the fluorite surface. FT-IR and XPS analysis were utilized to obtain a better understanding of the mechanism by which PAA was more strongly adsorbed on the calcite surface than NaOl. This was revealed to occur through chemical bonding between the carboxyl group of PAA and the hydroxyl groups of the Ca species on the calcite surface, modifying the structure of the adsorbed layer. A possible adsorption mechanism, along with a postulated adsorption mode for the surface interaction between PAA and calcite, is proposed.

Thermal properties, microstructure and magnetic properties of $Fe_{79}Zr_{9}B_{12},$ $Fe_{76}Zr_{9}B_{15},$ $Fe_{39.5}Co_{39.5}Zr_{9}B_{12}$ and $Fe_{38}Co_{38}Zr_{9}B_{15}$ alloys were investigated by differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction and vibrating sample magnetometer. High Co addition has a significant impact on the properties of alloys. High Co addition increases the main crystallization peak temperature and the crystallization activation energy. Moreover, high Co addition changes the crystallization products and influences the crystallization processes of $Fe_{79}Zr_{9}B_{12}$ and $Fe_{76}Zr_{9}B_{15}$ alloys. The specific saturation magnetization $(M_{s})$ increases and coercivity $(H_{c})$ decreases by high Co additions.

Opis:
Lawn has been used for landscaping, gardening, and beautification of homes and cities for a long time. The evolution of the lawn reflects important cultural and biophysical interactions between humans and nature. The American lawn, which was from Europe and has been a part of the American dream for home ownership and culture, has become an area going against nature for its extensively using chemicals and generated pollutions. Tracing how the lawn is becoming an important part of culture, this article focuses on more recent pollution and other environmental problems resulted from the lawn culture. It is argued, that awareness, education and changing culture of taste and preference can serve additional measures together with law and technological advancement toward sustainable lawn in the United States and the world.
Trawnik już o dawna był używany w kształtowaniu krajobrazu, ogrodnictwie i upiększaniu domów. Ewolucja trawników odzwierciedla istotne kulturowe i biofizyczne interakcje pomiędzy ludźmi i przyrodą. Trawnik trafił do Ameryki z Europy i stał się częścią amerykańskiego snu o własności i kulturze domu. Później stał się on jednak obszarem przeciwstawiającym się naturze z uwagi na intensywnie stosowanie substancji chemicznych i generowanie zanieczyszczeń. Wykazując, w jaki sposób trawnik staje się ważną częścią kultury, ten artykuł skupia się na bardziej aktualnych kwestiach zanieczyszczeń i innych problemów środowiskowych. Wykształcenie świadomości, zmieniającą się kultura smaku i preferencje, łącznie z prawem i technologią, mogą stanowić dodatkowe środki prowadzące w kierunku zrównoważonego kształtowania trawników w Stanach Zjednoczonych i na świecie.

Środki techniczne to często systemy złożone. W złożonym systemie, między komponentami często zachodzą interakcje uszkodzeniowe prowadzące do uszkodzeń interakcyjnych. Występowanie w systemie uszkodzeń interakcyjnych może prowadzić do wzmożonego prawdopodobieństwa uszkodzenia. Stąd też, przy projektowaniu i eksploatacji złożonych systemów inżynieryjnych, może zaistnieć potrzeba wzięcia pod uwagę uszkodzeń interakcyjnych. Odnosząc się do tego zagadnienia, Sun i in. stworzyli analityczny model uszkodzeń interakcyjnych. W modelu tym stopień interakcji między dwoma komponentami jest wyrażany przez współczynniki interakcyjne. Aby można było użyć tego modelu do analizy uszkodzeń należy więc oszacować współczynniki interakcyjne. Jednakże nie opisano jeszcze metod szacowania współczynników interakcyjnych. Aby wypełnić tę lukę, w niniejszej pracy zaprezentowano pięć metod szacowania współczynników interakcyjnych, wliczając w to metodę probabilistyczną, metodę analizy opartej na danych o uszkodzeniach, eksperymentalną metodę laboratoryjną, metodę opartą na mechanizmie interakcji między uszkodzeniami oraz metodę oceny eksperckiej. Podano przykłady pokazujące zastosowania proponowanych metod, a także dokonano porównania między nimi.
Engineering assets are often complex systems. In a complex system, components often have failure interactions which lead to interactive failures. A system with interactive failures may lead to an increased failure probability. Hence, one may have to take the interactive failures into account when designing and maintaining complex engineering systems. To address this issue, Sun et al have developed an analytical model for the interactive failures. In this model, the degree of interaction between two components is represented by interactive coefficients. To use this model for failure analysis, the related interactive coefficients must be estimated. However, methods for estimating the interactive coefficients have not been reported. To fill this gap, this paper presents five methods to estimate the interactive coefficients including probabilistic method; failure data based analysis method; laboratory experimental method; failure interaction mechanism based method; and expert estimation method. Examples are given to demonstrate the applications of the proposed methods. Comparisons among these methods are also presented.
