Opis:
Introduction. Estrogen receptors (ER) are members of nuclear receptors that act in the ER signaling pathway regulating the pathophysiology of hormone-responsive target cells including breast tissue. Aim. This detailled review literature was written on the pathophysiology of ER signaling as well as the effect altered ERα and associated pathway derangement in the oncogenesis of breast cancer. Material and methods. This review was performed according to systematic literature search of three major bibliographic databases (Scopus, PubMed, and Cochran). Analysis of the literature. In this pathway, estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) is a key estradiol-17β (E2) induced transcription factor that has been implicated in the initiation and development of the major fraction of breast cancers. Hence understanding the ERα-mediated ER signaling that results in alterations from normal phenotypic features of breast tissue to the oncogenic features of breast cancer is important. The oncogenic effect of ERα in ER signaling is driven by combinations of molecular assets within the cancer cells. Normally, the transcriptional activity of ERα is controlled by tight regulation of its protein level inside the cells. Altered stability and activity of ERα due to its phosphorylation, ubiquitination, glycosylation, sumoylation, and acetylation events can trigger oncogenic ER signaling. Conclusion. The function and activity of ERα is also modulated by its interaction with coregulators as well as crosstalk with oncogenic factors from other oncogenic pathways. These all events increase the complexity of the progression of ER+ breast cancer and its response to endocrine therapy

Opis:
This paper identified attitudes toward CALL of students studying English as a foreign language (EFL) at industrial colleges in Saudi Arabia. Seventy students who were enrolled in the orientation year of an English program were chosen to participate in this study by expressing their attitudes toward CALL. Standardized and local instruments were used along with interviews and observation techniques to collect data. The results of the study revealed that students had positive attitudes toward CALL. Looking at the daily hours students spend using a computer, a slight correlation was found between this variable and the students’ attitudes toward CALL. Other variables, such as students’ background knowledge of English, ownership of a computer, and their computer knowledge, were found to be irrelevant to their attitudes toward CALL. These results were in line with previous research conducted by Al-Shammari (2007), Alrumaih (2004), and Almekhlafi (2006). The results reinforced conclusions about CALL revealed by researchers, such as Chen (2003), Chikamatsu (2003), Egbert (2005) and Levy (2005), who found that it helps students learn better and more independently, and gives them the ability to have more control of their learning and to have more opportunities to practice English.

ObjectivesThe aim of this study was to determine the physiological and biochemical changes among bakers, induced by heat exposure at the workplace.Material and MethodsInformation was collected by means of a self-administered questionnaire. Vital signs were measured and recorded by a trained nurse before and after each work shift. A venous blood sample was drawn at the end of each work shift. The mean wet-bulb globe temperature (WBGT) index in the bakeries and offices was measured.ResultsThis was a cross-sectional study involving 137 bakers working in 20 bakeries, and 107 control subjects comparable in terms of age, race, marital status, years of service, income, and cigarette smoking. There was a significant weight loss and increase in the respiratory rate, the heart rate, and oral body temperature among the bakers compared to the control group. Sodium levels were significantly lower, while blood urea nitrogen levels were significantly higher, among the bakers than in the control group. There were unfavorably hot working conditions in the bakeries: the WBGT index in the bakeries was 37.4°C while the average WBGT for the offices was 25.5°C.ConclusionsThe changes in the physiological and biochemical parameters among the bakers were found to be associated with exposure to high environmental heat in the bakeries, as judged by the WBGT index. Preventive measures should be aimed at reducing the adverse effects of heat exposure among bakers and should be directed towards the man-machine-environment triad.

Opis:
The composition of the Kazakh ethnic group in the Republic of Kazakhstan is linguistically heterogeneous: more than 70% of the Kazakhs are bilinguals with the second Russian language. The Russian-speaking Kazakhs are mostly located in Russian bordering regions, as well as most of them is an urban population. Level of Russian speaking Kazakhs is different, which suggests the presence of different types of bilingualism depending on social, historical and geographical aspects. This fact has caused features of modern Kazakh world. However, the factor defining the unity of the ethnic group and its viability, a traditional culture that despite decades of civilizational influences has not lost its identity. That identity permeates the everyday life of modern Kazakhs, appearing in the system of traditional education, and the ritual practices and religious consciousness of Kazakhs. Traditional ethical culture of the Kazakhs is inextricably linked to the Muslim culture. Purpose. The article attempts to describe the concept of Islam as one of the cognitive awareness of modern Kazakh language through its linguistic representation (based on psycholinguistic experiments). Methods. In this study psycholinguistic and Popova-Sternin’s semantic-cognitive research methods were used. The content and structure of the concept of Islam is presented on the basis of free association experiment data. Results. The concept of Islam is relevant to the linguistic consciousness of the majority of respondents-Kazakhs. According to the study Islamic knowledge of modern Kazakhs, first of all, they are gained from traditional culture, casual everyday life and ritual practices of the people. The religious identity of respondents is reflected in the identification and assessment of the concept of Islam zone and finds the dependence on cultural and linguistic preferences: Kazakh language, Kazakh respondents, in contrast to the Russian-speaking, are more familiar with the traditional ethical culture of the people and increasingly identify themselves as Muslims. In the view of most Kazakh respondents Islam is related to humanistic values.

Opis:
The development of advanced materials those are stronger, more rigid, lighter, hotter and self-renewable than existing materials has been the rising point of many research studies conducted in recent years. Within this scope, the interest to production of nanostructured materials is received considerable attention worldwide due to their potential positive contribution to wide variety of technological areas such as electronics, catalysis, adsorbents, ceramics, magnetic data storage, structural components etc. In these efforts polymer nanocomposites as the form of hydrogels, reinforced with well-dispersed layered silicate, typically montmorillonite can be given as a one of the promising composite material. However, long-standing problems for polymer-clay nanocomposites include actual exfoliation of clay particles in discrete layers, uniform distribution of clay layers throughout the polymer, and randomness of clay sequences. For the exfoliation of clay particles, although the chemical modification of clay minerals in aqueous media is the well-known and more general way applied by researchers, the physical pathway method performed by high-energy ball mills is also gaining increasing attention as an alternative pretreatment way. Grinding of crushed materials is one of the key processes in the mineral and cement industry, but the increased concern on the preparation of fine-grained powders (nano powders) or the manufacture of composites with desirable properties, especially performed with use of high-energy ball mills, has led to significantly widen the usage field of grinding. Undoubtedly, the main reason for these efforts is to improve the performance of existing materials. In this paper the fundamental concepts, classification, physical and chemical characteristics and the production methods of clay/polymer nanocomposites was briefly reviewed base on the composite hydrogel. Particular attention was paid to the pre-treatment (exfoliation) of clays with high-energy ball mills, which is increasingly being accepted as an alternative method to eliminate the negative effects of chemical treatment in some composite forms.

Purpose. The article presents a fragment of complex (linguoculturological and semantic-cognitive) study of the concept Islam in Kazakh linguoculture. As exemplified in the texts of Kazakh oral folk arts, in which the Muslim stories are intertwined with archaic, pre-Islamic views, the thesis about specific character of religious (Muslim) worldview of the Kazakhs is being proven. Methods. In the course of the study the different methods, widely used in the process of linguistic and cultural analysis of the concept, were used, in particular, the elements of contextual analysis, lexicographical and of comparative method. Results. There are a lot of different examples that show us the widespread penetration of Quranic stories, myths, images and figures, biblical-Quranic worldview into the Kazakh folklore. Recoding sacred language and the formation of new religious and mythological syncretism indicate profound changes in the mentality of the Kazakh people, due to the entry into the sphere of the Muslim culture (the transition to a conscious religion) and until the twentieth century, accompanied by mixing elements of pagan (pre-Islamic) and Muslim world views.

Objective: Extensive use of mobile phones has been accompanied by a common public debate about possible adverse effects on human health. No study has been published so far to establish any association between the fastest growing innovation of mobile phone and fasting blood glucose. The aim was to determine the effects of exposure to electromagnetic field radiation generated by mobile phones on fasting blood glucose in Wistar Albino rats. Materials and Methods: 40 Male Albino rats (Wistar Strain) were divided into 5 equally numerous groups. Group A served as the control one, group B received mobile phone radiation for less than 15 min/day, group C: 15-30 min/day, group D: 31-45 min/day, and group E: 46-60 min/day for a total period of 3 months. Fasting blood glucose was determined by using Spectrophotometer and serum insulin by Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The Homeostatic Model (HOMA-B) was applied for the assessment of β-cell function and (HOMA-IR) for resistance to insulin. Results: Wister Albino rats exposed to mobile phone radiation for longer than 15 min a day for a total period of 3 months had significantly higher fasting blood glucose (p < 0.015) and serum insulin (p < 0.01) compared to the control group. HOMA-IR for insulin resistance was significantly increased (p < 0.003) in the groups that were exposed for 15-30 and 46-60 min/day compared to the control rats. Conclusion: The results of the present study show an association between long-term exposure to activated mobile phones and increase in fasting blood glucose and serum insulin in Albino rats.

For the past few decades, the electronic and electrical waste have been accumulating and piling on our lands and aside from posing some serious threat on our environment and our health. And with the technological advance and the rapid growing electronic demand and production there is the risk of accumulating even more unused valuable usable materials in our waste land-fields. Up to 2030, EU is forecasting about 74 million tons of e-waste, including washing machines, tablet computers, toasters, and cell phones. In 2022, more than 5.3 billion mobile phones were wasted whereas Li, Mn, Cu, Ni, and various rare-earth elements (like Nd, Eu and Tb, etc.) as well as graphite are actually found in the contents of many metal parts from wiring, batteries to their components. The main purpose aside from an environmental aspect is reserving the mineral used in this waste, as many of the crucial materials have a supply risk heavily depending on import. For instance, many of these rare earth elements (REE) are sourced from China; these REEs are used in many electronics that range from consumer products to industrial-use machines. This study is to review one of the desired methods that is via using bio-techniques to dissolve and recover as much as possible from main e-waste sources such as PCBs, spend batteries and LCD/LED panels. Microorganisms that are used for bioleaching process and their metal recovery aspects were compared in the second part. Future perspectives were finally added considering significant techno-economic environmental and social impacts.

This study deals with the selection of optimum parameters for friction stir processing of Al alloy 6061-T6 reinforced with a hybrid nanoparticle (B4C and SiO2) in terms of their effect on the mechanical properties (hardness, tensile strength, and wear resistance) using Taguchi method. This work was carried out under four parameters each one running in three levels; rotational speeds (800, 1000 and 1200) rpm, travel speeds (10, 20, and 30) mm/min, holes depth (2, 2.5, and 3) mm, and mixing ratio of (SiO2/B4C) nanoparticles (1/1, 1/2, and 1/3), using L9 (34) Taguchi orthogonal array. Tensile strength and microhardness tests were conducted to evaluate the mechanical properties, in addition to the wear resistance test which is carried out using a pin-on-disk device. The microstructure was examined by optical microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and x-ray diffraction analysis. It was found that the highest tensile strength (223) MPa at 1200 rpm rotational speed, 30 mm/min traverse speed, 2.5 mm holes depth, and 1/2 (SiO2/B4C) nanoparticles mixing ratio, the highest hardness reached is (155) HV, then decreases in the direction of thermomechanically affected zone (TMAZ), heat affected zone (HAZ), and the base material at (1200) rpm rotational speed, (30) mm/min linear speed, a hole depth of (2) mm and (1/3) mixing ratio of (B4C/SiO2) nanoparticles. The wear behavior was of a mild type or an oxidative type at low loads (5 N), which became severe or metallic wear at higher loads (20 N) at fixed sliding time and speed. The (ANOVA) table has been used to determine which parameter is the most significant using MINITAB software.

Minimizing dilution is essential in open stope mine design as excessive unplanned dilution can compromise the operation's profitability. One of the main challenges associated with the empirical dilution graph method used to design open stopes is how to determine the boundary of the dilution zones objectively. Hence, this paper explores the implementation of machine learning classifiers to bridge this gap in the conventional dilution graph method. Stope performance data consisting of the stope dilution (unplanned dilution), the modified stability number, and the hydraulic radius were compiled from a mine located in Kazakhstan. First, the conventional dilution graph methods were used to assess the dilution. Next, a Feed-Forward Neural Network (FFNN) classifier was implemented to predict each level of dilution. Overall, the FFNN results indicated that 97% of the stope surfaces were correctly classified, indicating an excellent classification performance, while the conventional dilution graph method did not show a good performance. In addition, the outputs of the FFNN were used to plot new dilution graphs with a probabilistic interpretation illustrating its practicability. It was concluded that the FFNN-based classifier could be a useful tool for open stope design in underground mines.

Optical transmission is getting more popular in the access network due to the increasing demand for bandwidth. New services like IP television (IPTV) transmission, video on demand (VoD) etc. over Internet together along high speed Internet access are confronting the demand of higher bandwidth at the customer end in today's Ethernet network backbone. Even though today's well deployed XDSL (i.e., VDSL/VDSL2+, SHDSL) solutions can satisfy bandwidth demand but are limited to the restriction regarding distance. Hereby, the suitable solution for high bandwidth demand with a long reach can be met by reaching optical cable to cus- tomer end directly. One of the possible ways would be to install passive optical network (PON). Gigabit PON (GPON) is the far-most advanced PON solution used by European and US providers while providers in Asia predominantly use EPON/GePON. This GPON is the basic technology to support the structure of the next-generation fiber to the home (FTTH) system. This paper provides an overview of such GPON solution associating its network architecture, transmission mechanisms and some key services.

In the paper, satellite data such as radar data and machine learning algorithms, were used to classify soil salinity. Numerical results were presented for the Turkestan region, which contains more than 102 points. The machine learning algorithms, including Gaussian Process, Decision Tree, and Random Forest, were compared. The evaluation of the model score was realized by using metrics, such as accuracy, Recall, and f1. In addition, the influence of the dataset features on the classification was investigated using machine learning algorithms. The research results showed that the Gaussian Process model has the best score among considered algorithms. In addition, the results are consistent with the outcome of the Shapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) framework.

Background. The Kocher-Langenbeck approach is recommended in the majority of common posterior acetabular injuries. Trochanteric osteotomy can be used to extend the exposure of the Kocher-Langenbeck approach superiorly and anteriorly. We evaluated the functional outcome of common acetabular fractures operated on through the Kocher-Langenbeck approach with or without trochanteric flip osteotomy. Material and methods. This prospective study enrolled 42 patients with posterior wall, posterior column, transverse, posterior wall with posterior column, transverse with posterior wall and both column acetabular fractures. The Kocher-Langenbeck approach was used in 35 patients and trochanteric flip osteotomy was done in 7 patients. The radiological outcome was evaluated by Matta’s criteria and the functional outcome was evaluated using modified Merle d'Aubigné and Postel criteria. Results. D’Aubigne Postel scores at the final follow-up were excellent in 12 patients, good in 18, fair in 8 and poor in 4. Thirty-seven patients had congruent reduction (anatomical in 29, imperfect in 8) and 5 patients had non-congruent reduction on radiographs as per Matta’s criteria. Radiographic congruity (88.09%, 37 out of 42 cases) correlated fairly well with the functional outcome (excellent or good functional outcome in 71.4%, 30 out of 42 cases). The complications included traumatic nerve palsy (3 cases), iatrogenic nerve palsy (2 cases), deep venous thrombosis (2 cases), wound infection (3 cases), non-congruent reduction (5 cases), 8 cases of osteoarthritis of hip, 2 cases of avascular necrosis of femoral head and 3 cases of heterotrophic ossification. Conclusions. 1.
