Opis:
We examined a retrospective assessment of their parenting style and its relation to procrastination. Most studies focus on parents’ reports; therefore, we sought to determine how children see it. The association between parenting style and the behaviour of their offspring seems obvious. Nevertheless, reports on associations between parenting styles and procrastination raise questions. All the more so because procrastination results in academic and work failures, the disruption of family life, and mental and health problems. The target group encompassed 130 Polish high school students (92 girls and 38 boys), all aged 17, and came from middle-class families. We used two tests: the Parental Authority Questionnaire and the Pure Procrastination Scale. The correlation analysis did not confirm the relationship between procrastination and gender or the number of siblings. The study showed that parenting style is essential for children’s well-being, self-regulation, and academic achievements, which are closely linked to procrastination behaviours. The coupled parenting styles of both parents have a greater impact on children’s well-being, self-regulation, and academic achievements than the mother’s and father’s styles considered separately. It shows a need to offer parents support in the raising of their children, which should be taken into consideration by educators and policymakers.

Opis:
A number of studies show that both children and adults exhibit difficulties with problem-solving tasks. In fact, only one-third of adults reach the formal operational stage. Coaching such tasks in everybody’s language proves to be helpful only if the situation described is close to life events. The presented study confirmed the improvement in the thematic version of the Wason Test both in pupils and university students, albeit being far from spectacular. The authors suggest distinguishing a bounded type of thinking characterized by highly schematic, mechanistic, and automated thinking. They argue that it results both in educational and everyday failures.

Opis:
Studies concerning emotional changes following brain damage neglect the emotional responses that might arise in reaction to the stimuli used in their examination of such patients. Yet those reactions may be quite forceful often provoking feeling of anxiety or panic and dismay. A questionnaire designed to reveal associations and emotional attitudes was presented to 96 extramural students. Four categories of products and the products within those categories were selected. The categories included: sweets; alcohol; transport, and consumer electronics. In addition, 174 participants of various ages and professions produced associations linked to emotionally loaded words. A list of associations and their dominance scores were created. It revealed that transport (4.9) and consumer electronics (5) were given the highest mean scores. Also, the terms car (5.3) and mobile phone (5) aroused the highest levels of emotion. The significance of the emotional attitudes of the participants to objects were determined within particular dimensions that measured likableness, interest, goodness, and attractiveness. The terms beer, chocolate, car and mobile phone were reported to be most acceptable in all four dimensions. The above data suggests that the emotional attitude awakened by a particular object finds its expression in all of the dimensions examined. The studies revealed the significance of primary subconscious affects for creating positive or negative attitudes. This should be taken into account by therapists since objects which evoke a negative affect may trigger a patient’s reluctance to take part in the rehabilitation procedure.

Opis:
Introduction. Osteoarthritis is the most common disease of the musculoskeletal system. Osteoarthritis progresses slowly, but with time it results in movement disability and chronic pain. Its progression is also significantly associated with personality functioning and the ability to make rational life choices regarding various aspects of human life, including the economic sphere. Aim. The aim of the research was to determine how personality correlates with a tendency towards indebtedness between patients with and without osteoarthritis. Material and methods. The researched sample consisted of two groups - 50 patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis hospitalized in the Department of General and Neuro Rehabilitation in the Institute of Rural Health in Lublin and 50 healthy people. The KOS-B Questionnaire, the IVE Questionnaire, the SES Scale, the SPP-25 Scale, the Delta Questionnaire and the APSZ questionnaire were used in the research. Results. In the group of patients with osteoarthritis, the leading correlates of indebtedness are: assessment of the stress situation related to the current economic situation seen as a threat, and perceiving it as harm or loss. In the healthy group, the leading correlates of incurring financial liabilities are impulsiveness, self-esteem, assessment of the stress situation related to the current economic situation seen as a threat, openness to new experiences and sense of humor, empathy, and the need for social approval. Conclusion. In the group of patients with osteoarthritis, the factor conducive to incurring financial liabilities is the assessment of the stressful situation related to the current economic situation seen as a threat, while perceiving it as harm or loss leads to abandoning reliance on credit. In the healthy group, the factors that favor this type of activity are impulsiveness, self-esteem, the assessment of the stress situation related to the current economic situation seen as a threat and the need for social approval; the factors protecting against indebtedness in healthy persons are openness to new experiences and sense of humor as well as empathy.
