Opis:: The article is an analysis of a collection of a dozen or so studies focused on the cult of saints in Central Europe between the eleventhand the early sixteenth centuries. The author points both to the merits of the publication in question (its emphasis on the intensity of the cult of saints and presentation of the subject matter in international conference languages) as well as its shortcomings: leaving out the question of saintly duchesses and saintly Christianizing dukes, and the shortage of articles discussing the analysed phenomena in a broad Central European context.

Opis:: “Mister Automobile” and failures of interdisciplinary approach. Some remarks on interdisciplinary studies and criteria followed in evaluating scholarly journals. Regarding Łukasz Żurek’s paper on knightly orders (Summary)This review article offers the analysis of Łukasz Żurek’s three articles on the Teutonic state’s political system and the monetary policy it conducted, as well as on the Templars’ economic activity. Although published in journals registered on the ministerial list of scored journals, the articles fail to meet basic scholarly standards. The analysis of these articles has led the author to indicate two problems faced by Polish science today. First, in addition to relying on purely formal criteria, the ministerial evaluation of scholarly journals must take into account the scholarly level of the papers that have recently been published in the pages of the journals evaluated. Second, the author points to some dangers that lie in the adoption of an interdisciplinary approach by scholars who are not well-trained in the use of various research techniques typifying different disciplines.

Opis:: The author presents the Polish, understood here as Piast, cult of St. Peter against the backdrop of the cult of this saint in medieval Europe. She underscores that the importance of the most zealous of the Apostles was immensely reinforced by the fact that he was venerated in the capital of Christianity, a city headed by the Pope, the earthly successor of the saint. The article describes the circumstances of the rise of the cult of St. Peter on Piast lands paying special attention to the presence of the saint’s relics and their veneration according to the local manner.

Opis:: Tematem artykułu jest udział Polaków w krucjatach do Ziemi Świetej. Według zapisków w kronikach bizantyjskich w drugiej krucjacie uczestniczył jakiś piastowski książę, mogli to być: Henryk Sandomierski albo Władysław II Wygnaniec. Zdaniem prof. Starnawskiej był to Władysław II Wygnaniec, gdyż w tym czasie po wygnaniu go przez braci z Polski przebywał na dworze swego cesarskiego szwagra Konrada III. A cesarz uczestniczył w tej wyprawie. Kroniki wymieniają też rycerzy Jaksę z Miechowa i w 1189 roku Wielisława Jerosolimitanusa, oraz Dżierżka z Buska i byłego wojewodę mazowieckiego Krystyna, wsławionego obroną Mazowsza przed Prusami.
