Opis:
Residential architecture creates a framework for meeting housing needs. It offers users aesthetic satisfaction, the expression of values associated with lifestyle, prestige and social status. Contemporary architecture has made spectacular advances achieving “celebrity” status in media reports with respect to the latest architectural work and its creators. Architecture has also become a kind of ‘hobby of interest’ not only for professionals but also the general public. These conditions along with cultural codes have contributed to a rapid growth in the aspirations of Poles about their residence. Economic and legal considerations, however, bring the dream “house of tomorrow” back to reality. Housing preferences are a conglomerate of needs, dreams, aspirations, perceptions and household purchasing power. Knowledge of these preferences, especially in the context of sustainable design, calls for creative, high quality housing environments. The principal aim of the paper is to present the results of nationwide survey of city dwellers on housing preferences in Poland and to highlight the barriers that could limit the development of future sustainable housing environments. Survey respondents were asked, among other things, about their expectations in relation to pro-environmental characteristics of residential architecture. The findings show the main problem with respect to sustainable housing in Poland is social rather than physical. Hence this knowledge of the residents’ expectations in relation to the residential environment reinforces the need for educational and the promotion of activities about urban design and architecture and how it can lead to better quality and more sustainable environments.

Opis:
The Linear City concept in spatial planning has been present since Soria y Mata’s proposal in 1882 (Collins, 1959). Yet, naturally conditioned elongated urban developments have not been a frequent subject of research. However, dynamic urbanization under ongoing processes of globalization have brought new conditions and challenges for cities, among them a strong impact of international financial markets on a city space. Cultural and recreational areas are being systematically replaced by commercial and office buildings what disrupts correct city structure. The set of conditions mentioned above relate to linear cities as well. Apart from analyzing possible causes of developing existing linear cities, this paper aims to examine their contemporary development possibilities determined by mentioned above factors. Sarajevo, BiH serves as case example. On the basic of extensive literature review the development possibilities have been recognized. In case of Sarajevo possible interventions appear as strengthening main transportation axes and establishing new centers along the city spine1.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to determine whether SNP at position -824 (promoter region) of the TNFα gene significantly differentiates the size of IgM+, CD5+ and CD11b+ cell subpopulations and affects the expression of membrane-bound TNFα protein (mTNFα) on these cells and their susceptibility to BLV infections. In this study, significant differences were determined for the first time between TNFα genotypes and the percentage of cells with the CD11b+TNFα+p24+ immunophenotype. Furthermore, greater expansion of lymphocytes with the IgM+TNFα+p24+ immunophenotype was reported in cows with the G/G genotype than in A/A homozygotes. Cells with the above immunophenotype were more frequently observed in cows with persistent leukocytosis than in aleukemic cattle. Our results suggest that polymorphism of the TNFα -824 A>G gene and mTNFα protein expression play an important role in the pathogenesis of enzootic bovine leukosis.

The objective of this study was to describe and compare the genetic structure (TNF-α-position 824) of dairy cattle herds infected and not infected with the bovine leukemia virus (BLV). The results of the present study indicate that BLV-positive herds were characterized by similar genetic structure (TNF-α-824A/G). The genetic equilibrium in these herds was preserved, but a tendency to increased frequency of G/G homozygotes was found. The genetic structure of the healthy herd differed considerably from that of leukemic herds.

Opis:
A single T>C nucleotide polymorphism (rs42686850) of bovine tumor necrosis factor receptor type II gene (TNF-RII) is located within a sequence with allele-specific affinity to bind E2F transcription factors, considered pivotal in the regulation of cell cycle and cell proliferation. The objective of the study was to determine the effect of this SNP and BLV infection on the TNF-RII gene expression at the mRNA and protein levels in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). We noted that analyzed TNF-RII gene polymorphism influenced the expression of the TNF-RII gene at the mRNA level but only in BLV-positive cows. Concurrently, no statistically significant association was found between gene polymorphism and TNF-RII expression at the protein level. However, we found a significant effect of BLV infection status on the amount of TNF-RII mRNA and the percentage of PBMC expressing TNF-RII. These results show an unclear effect of considered T>C polymorphism on TNF-RII gene expression in bovine leukocytes and they suggest the involvement of BLV in modifying the TNF-RII expression in BLV-infected cows potentially implying the EBL (Enzootic Bovine Leukosis) associated pathogenesis.

Introduction. E-Health tools allow a medical facility to set a given patient’s data in order using ICT techniques, and the patient to use those techniques when contacting a given organisation. Materials and method. Secondary statistical data was used in the research. The study was carried out among primary health care patients. Mining for affinity rules was done in the R programme. The apriori and inspect functions from the arules package were used. Moreover, any redundant rules were removed from thoseobtained using the afero-mentioned method. Applying the general description of the affinity analysis method onto the survey described herein, it should be stressed that the aim of using affinity analysis was to discover the rules which contain the sub-transaction B={V_6=1} as a consequent. This was determined by the intention to discover associations regarding the knowledge about a uniform information system that the patients under study might have. Results. In the discovered rules, the antecedent most often contained an indication of the need for introducing a uniform solution as regards telemedicine. Moreover, according to the opinions of ‚conscious‘patients, a uniform IT system should improve the work at primary health care institutions, introducing an on-line booking system for visits should improve the productivity and comfort of doctors, and an IT system should provide unambiguous identification of a patient. Conclusions. There is potential in using affinity analysis within e-Health. The example of affinity analysis described in his study led to the discovery of interesting and important (from the point of view of a medical facility) regularities regarding the knowledge and expectations of patients as regards e-Health.

Opis:
Determination of physical properties of porous geological materials is of great importance for oil industry. The knowledge of rocks properties is usually obtained from porosity studies such as pore size distribution, specific surface area determination, and hydrodynamic permeability calculations. This study describes determination of elemental composition and measurements of the particular physical properties of geological samples (porous sandstone rocks) by means of the nuclear and X-ray microprobes at the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences in Kraków, Poland. The special emphasis has been put on the computed microtomography method. Measurements have been carried out in close cooperation with Department of Geophysics, FGGEP AGH in Kraków, Poland. Chemical composition of the Rotliegend sandstone rock samples (few millimeters diameter), extracted from a borehole at 2679.6 m, 2741.4 m and 2742.4 m depth have been investigated using the 2.2 MeV proton beam (proton induced X-ray emission technique). Next, measurements of the porosity and the specific surface area of the pore space have been carried out using the X-ray microtomography technique. Basing on microtomographic data obtained with the high spatial resolution, simulations of the fluid dynamic in the void space of porous media have been carried out. Lattice Boltzmann method in the 3DQ19 geometrical model has been used in order to predict the hydraulic permeability of the media. In order to avoid viscosity-permeability dependence the multiple-relaxation-time model with half-way bounce back boundary conditions has been used. Computing power-consuming processing has been performed with the use of modern grid infrastructure.
