Opis:
Wolfgang Schweickard, a well-known expert in historical Romance linguistics, launched a series Orientalia in 2023. Three fascicles were published between March and August 2023. This author has tried to examine incorrect izafet constructions (such as At Meydan ‘a historical square in Constantinople’, lit. ‘horse square, hippodrome’ instead of the original At Meydanı) excerpted from Italian sources and published in the Orientalia in order to find out how old the phenomenon is and how it came into being. Answers to the two questions are given in the final section.

Thus far, four – structurally very different – etymologies have been suggested for the Turkic word for ‘garlic’. This author adduces derivatives found in Altai, one of the Siberian Turkic languages, that provide crucial support for one of them.
Jak dotąd zaproponowano cztery – strukturalnie bardzo odmienne – etymologie tureckiego słowa oznaczającego ‘czosnek’. Autor przytacza derywaty występujące w języku ałtajskim, jednym z języków turkijskich Syberii, które stanowią istotny argument na rzecz jednej z hipotez.

Slavic‑Turkish linguistic relations are generally only discussed unilaterally, focusing on the Turkish influence on Slavic and neglecting the opposite direction. Thus far, no more than two relatively extensive essays (the larger one counting 44 pages) have been devoted to Slavic loanwords in Turkish. The present paper aims to outline the state of research on this topic. It begins with a comparison of the two essays, then it examines several of somewhat atypical words, as well as a handful of suffixes, and it closes with a very brief presentation of the Slavic influence on case government of Gagauz verbs.

Opis:
The origin of Proto-Slavic palatal(ized) consonants has interested many linguists. Some of them have tried to connect palatality and velarity of Slavic consonants with the influence of Turkic consonant palatalization or velarization dependent on vowel harmony. This paper is a first study allowing for Turkological point of view and striving to show that there still are many doubts about the Proto- -Turkic influence on Proto-Slavic.

The paper discusses some changes of a and e, as observed in Turkish loanwords in Macedonian, which enables us to see how important these words are also for Turkish historical dialectology. In the final part of the study, a lexicographical suggestion is made: What we really need is a comparative (and, if possible, a historical) dictionary of Turkish loanwords in the Macedonian language area. Without it, we will never be in a position to establish their precise etyma.

Rozważamy model wzrostu gospodarczego w postaci autonomicznego układu dynamicznego. Pokazujemy metodę wyznaczania trajektorii w otoczeniu długookresowej równowagi w wybranych neoklasycznych modelach egzogenicznego wzrostu gospodarczego. W ogólności ta metoda ma przede wszystkim zastosowanie do modeli, które nie posiadają jawnych rozwiązań. Proponujemy ogólną metodę znajdowania rozwiązań dowolnie wymiarowego układu dynamicznego reprezentującego model wzrostu gospodarczego w postaci szeregu potęgowego. W tym celu rozwijamy funkcję stanu w szereg potęgowy Taylora w otoczeniu stanu początkowego. Współczynniki tego rozwinięcia reprezentują parametry zmienności wielkości stanu układu takie jak tempo wzrostu, przyśpieszenie, zryw, itd. Są one liczone algebraicznie (Mathematica) z postaci wyjściowego układu dynamicznego. W pracy podajemy metodę znajdowania rozwiązań dla układów jednowymiarowych i dwuwymiarowych. Jako przykłady rozważamy modele Solowa-Swana i Mankiwa-Romera-Weila. W pracy stosujemy metodę aproksymant Padégo dla uzyskania lepszej zbieżności szeregu potęgowego. Dzięki przedstawionej metodzie uzyskano rozwiązania w postaci szeregu dla trajektorii w otoczeniu długookresowej równowagi dwóch modeli egzogenicznego wzrostu gospodarczego. Pokazano, że uzyskane rozwiązania dobrze aproksymują ścieżki czasowe, po których osiągana jest długookresowa równowaga. Wskazano również możliwość estymacji parametrów modelu wzrostu gospodarczego, dla którego uzyskano rozwiązania w postaci szeregu.
We consider economic growth models in the form of dynamical systems. We show a method of determining trajectories in a neighbourhood of a long-run equilibrium in some neoclassical models of exogenous economic growth. This method is applied primarily to these models which in general have no analytical solution. We propose the general method of finding solutions of arbitrarily dimensional dynamical system in the form of power series. We expand the state function in Taylor's series in the neighbourhood of the initial state. The coefficients of expansion represent the parameters of the variation of the state of the system and are calculated algebraically in Mathematica. We present the method of finding solutions for the Solow-Swan model and the Mankiw-Romer-Weil model. We use also the Padé aproximant method to obtain a better convergence of the power series. This method allows to obtain a solution in the form of a series for trajectories in a neighbourhood of a long-run equilibrium in two models of exogenous economic growth. We show that obtained solutions are a good approximation of time paths, along which the long-run equilibrium is reached. We show a possibility of estimation of model parameters for which solutions in the form of series are known.

The three colloquial words for ‘head’ adduced in the title of this paper are of Turkic origin, cf. Tkc. baš ’head’. However, this author contests Max Vasmer’s opinion that the Russian word was borrowed from the Turkic dative form (baš.ka) with the meaning ‘per unit, each; pro Stück’. Moreover, it is suggested that the Ukrainian reflex continues, as a matter of fact, two words.

Od nieomal stu lat znane są trzy podstawowe wymogi metodologiczne, których spełnienie jest konieczne dla poprawnego ustalenia etymonu wyrazu zapożyczonego z języków orientalnych (zwykle chodzi tu o języki turkijskie). W niniejszym artykule do tamtych trzech wymogów dodany jest czwarty, dotyczący nie tyle samego etymonu, ile raczej dróg jego przenikania do języków słowiańskich, a po części i zachodnioeuropejskich. Sytuację badawczą okoliczność ta oczywiście dodatkowo komplikuje. Dla ukazania problemów metodologicznych przykłady leksykalne zostały podzielone na pięć grup: 1) rzeczywiste orientalizmy; 2) turkizmy i turcyzmy; 3) orientalizmy z Europy Zachodniej; 4) rzekome orientalizmy; 5) niespodziewane orientalizmy. W konkluzji podkreśla się fakt, że przyszłość badań nad zapożyczeniami ‒ nie tylko orientalnymi zresztą, i nie tylko w polszczyźnie ‒ będzie się nieuchronnie wiązać ze współpracą etymologów reprezentujących różne filologie.
There are three basic methodological requirements – known for almost a hundred years – which must be fulfilled to properly determine the etymon (Greek: ἔτυμον) of a word borrowed from an oriental language (in most cases a Turkic language). The article presents a fourth requirement concerning not the etymon itself, but rather the ways it has been permeating the Slavonic languages, and partly also the West-European ones, which adds to the complexity of the research situation. In order to show the methodological problems the lexical examples have been divided into five groups: (1) real orientalisms; (2) borrowings from Turkish and other Turkic languages; (3) orientalisms from Western Europe; (4) alleged orientalisms; (5) unexpected orientalisms. The conclusion is that the future of the research into borrowings – not only orientalisms, and not only in the Polish language – will be based on cooperation of etymologists who at the same time are philologists of various languages.

Two types of names for ‘Turkish delight’ are known in the Slavic languages: rahat-lokum ~ ratluk, and lokum. Even though most etymological dictionaries derive them from the same Arabo-Turkish etymon, their different structures are not discussed and the phonetic differences not explained. The aim of this paper is to establish the relative chronology of changes made to the original phrase, as well as to point out some problems which still remain more or less obscure.

In this study an analysis of the phonetic adaptation of Arabic and Persian loan-words in Ottoman Turkish is continued (for the vocalic part of the analysis see Stachowski M. [forthcoming]). Five phenomena are presented in the context of the general Turkic phonetic evolution. These are: [a] palatalization of (-)kE- > (-)čE-; [b] varying anlaut nasality: m- > b- and b- > m-; [c] despirantization of f > p; [d] epenthetic n; [e] shortening of geminates.

Franciscus Meninski generally used the letter ‹y› as a symbol for today’s Turkish ı. However, this letter also appears in front vocalic words which contradicts the palato-velar aspect of Turkish vowel harmony. Mertol Tulum has recently attempted to show that the phonetic value of ‹y› in front vocalic words was a central, high vowel placed between the Turkish i and ı (one that would probably be rendered [ɨ] in the IPA; however, since this letter is barely visible in print, especially in the footnotes, I have decided to replace it with its Fenno-Ugristic equivalent [i] here). The present author, thus, examines Tulum’s line of reasoning and dicusses the possibility of reinterpreting the functions fulfilled by ‹y› and ‹ü› in Meninski’s work.
