Opis:
The temperature dependence of o-Ps lifetime in the pores calculated from extended Tao-Eldrup model was compared to the experimental data, collected for a set of silica gels synthesized using the polymer template technique. For the sample with average pore radii 2.0 nm rather good agreement between the model and experiment was found. For the sample with narrow pores (near 1.0 nm) the lifetime spectrum was complex. Except the range of highest temperatures the lifetimes are far from model calculations.

Using four Polish Vicia faba L. minor cultivars (Bronto, Dino, Tibo, Nadwiślański) we obtained callus from epicotyl fragments collected from 7- and 14-day-old seedlings and from cotyledonary nodes of immature seeds. Callus induction efficiency varied from 81% to 97% depending on the origin of the explant. Shoots regenerated only from the cotyledonary nodes of all tested cultivars. On average, 50% of the explants grown on MS medium containing 1.0 mg dm-3 NAA, 0.5 mg dm-3 BAP, 0.25 mg dm-3 GA3, 1.0 g dm-3 casein hydrolysate, 750 mg dm-3 inositol, 3% sucrose and 0.4% agar were able to regenerate shoots. The number of calluses regenerating shoots was highest from explants collected from fruiting nodes 6 to 9. Decapitation of donor plants increased the percentage of calluses regenerating shoots. On half-strength MS medium with 2 mg dm-3 NAA and on 1/2 MS alone, 11% of the shoots rooted; on 1/2 MS with 1 g dm-3 AC, 8.0% rooted. The regenerants were transferred to Perlite with Hoagland medium and acclimated. Ten percent of the regenerated plants survived the acclimation process, flowered and produced seeds.

The aim of this study was to determine effects of genotype and selected environmental factors on colostrum production, intake, and efficiency in the cattle. The investigations were conducted on 67 dam-calf pairs. All cows were of Polish Holstein-Friesian breed, the Black-and-White variety (PHF-HO), whereas calves were sired by bulls of the following breeds: PHF-HO, Polish Holstein-Friesian of the Red-and-White variety (PHF-RW), Jersey (JE), Montbéliarde (MB) and Limousine (LI). The colostrum was collected from cows and offered to calves "from bucket" thrice a day. The amount of produced colostrum considerably exceeded the ability of its consumption by calves. Low share of HF genes in the cow, older cow's age and calving in the period from January to April appeared to be favorable factors for colostrum production. Calves born to cows with low HF gene share drank more colostrum than calves originating from cows with higher gene share of this breed. Crosses with JE drank the highest amount of the colostrum in relation to body weight, while MB-sired calves drank the highest amount in absolute terms. Colostrum intake was positively correlated with the dam's age. Furthermore, it was shown that in case of the first colostrum intake the most favorable period was from May to September, while in cases of total intake in the first day of life and mean intake in the first 5 days of life it was the period from January to April. Crosses with JE were characterized by extremely high use of colostrum per unit of body weight gain.

Introduction. Schizencephaly is one of the rare congenital defects of the central nervous system (CNS), known as neuronal migration disorders. The etiology of schizencecephaly is unequivocal. Established etiologies include in-utero infections (cytomegalovirus and herpes simplex virus, HSV type I), toxic abuse (cocaine, alcohol), as well as drug use (warfarin). Objectives. The aim of the study was to analyze the clinical presentation of schizencephaly with particular consideration of the course of epilepsy in paediatric patients. Materials and method. The study group consisted of 38 children with schizencephaly (20 of them had seizure) and was retrospectively assessed. Data were analyzed using SAS version 9.4. U Mann-Whitney and χ2 tests and logistic regression analysis were used in statistical analyses. Results. Epilepsy was the most frequent in bilateral type II schizencephaly (p=0.033). In logistic regression analysis, the presence of bilateral open schizencephaly significantly increased the risk of seizures (OR=11.67; 95%CI 2.44–55.83; p=0.002). Drug-resistant epilepsy was observed in 9 children (45% of the children with epilepsy). Prevalence of both epilepsy and drug-resistant epilepsy in schizencephaly did not significantly depend on gender, stage of development, type or localization of schizencephaly, and other coexisting CNS defects or clinical presentation of schizencephaly at follow-up in the study group of patients. Conclusions. The bilateral type of schizencephaly was identified as an independent risk factor for epilepsy in the analyzed children.
