Opis:: The first professional inventory books for the Diocesan Museum in Płock were made when the Rev. canon Aleksander Dmochowski was its head. In order to work out the museum stores special books were prepared. Precise information ensuring the identification of the object has been placed in separate rubrics in a defined order. The books under consideration were regularly supplemented in the post-war period, marking the changes with accuracy, thus informing about indispensable interventions. In the 1980s a new manner of cataloguing objects was conceived. This was an attempt to make documentation uniform on the basis of the state regulations binding at the time. Apart from the inventory of the museum objects it was decided to catalogue the more precious objects in the territory of the whole of the diocese. The catalogues of 260 parishes were designed. They all contained the history of a parish, descriptions of local customs, thorough description of the church together with, if there were any, archival descriptions dealing with the object, or descriptions of the church which had earlier existed. The inventory files did not leave out the more interesting lay objects which were not connected with a local cult, if there was any. A photographic documentation and detailed plans of the objects under description were enclosed with the text. In result of such a large-scale inventory the Museum gained many collections. The current cataloguing of the sacral objects is sporadic, though the Instruction of how to work out, say, evidential cards of the Centre of the Documentation of Monuments is fully applied to the monuments of church art. The implementation of such a documentation is a duty resulting from the Code of Canon Law.

Opis:: The history of the Diocesan Museum in Płock presented here shows a long process of forming this institution. The origin of the Diocesan Museum in Płock is closely connected with the restoration of the Holy Virgin Mary Cathedral. After its completion it was decided that the remaining architectonic fragments that cannot be used in the cathedral in a practical way should be secured; it was the same with the objects that were withdrawn from use for cult purposes. In this situation a project was conceived to build a lumber-room. Stefan Szyller, who was also the restorer of the Płock cathedral, was appointed the main architect. The construction was begun in 1903. In its outward appearance the building reminds of the cathedral. It was the first one in the Polish land to be designed as a diocesan museum building from the very beginning. As soon as 1929-1930 it was enlarged and reconstructed due to the growing collection. The recent improvements took place in 1997 when the cellars were adapted to be used as storerooms and preservation studios.

Opis:: In the Archive of the Norbertine Sisters in Imbramowice in the folder entitled The list of things donated to the church of the Norbertine Sisters in Imbramowice there is The register of all church things written on 25 October, 1862. The inventory of 1862 was drawn up when Bronisława Switanowska was the superior of the convent. The period of her reign was the time of changes for the convent in Imbramowice. At first there were no major obstacles in monastic life, and in those times of relative prosperity on 25 October, 1862 a list of things belonging to the convent was made. We learn from it that the convent church was in possession of the following church vestments: chasubles – 43, copes – 10, albs – 23, amises – 29, purificators – 45, corporals – 17, palls – 50, antependia 41. Under the goldsmithery the entry includes: candlesticks: silver – 22, tin – 6, wooden 51, porcelain – 2, tinplated – 2, metal – 6, brass – 1; b) chalices – 6, c) monstrances – 1, reliquaries – 4, a pyx – 1 The register also contains a number of other items, such as carpets, surplices, etc. Paintings and sculptures are not included. This register is particularly valuable because the chronicles relating to that period were written only in 1924, therefore, they are of a retrospective type. Analyzing the inventory of 1862, it can be noticed that some things were given or done by the nuns living in a convent. The register also includes the objects that convent acquired in 1863, 1864, 1866 and 1867. Those are the inventories from the period particularly difficult for the convent. The January Uprising initiated great changes. And the year 1864 was extremely critical for Imbramowice as it was then when, after the collapse of the uprising, the convent was ordered to be close down. As the records show at that time donations also came from the Norbertine Sisters in Imbramowice. In addition, the Norbertine Sisters of Pinczów (Busk) after the liquidation of their convent brought their possession to Imbramowice in 1864. The last two registers come from the years 1866 and 1867.

Opis:: In the Archives of the Norbertine Sisters in Imbramowice, among many important documents, there is the “The register of the things donated to the church after it had burnt down written on 1 August in 1712.” It was probably drawn up at the behest of abbess Zofia Grothówna, who managed the convent for almost forty years. Appointed to this function on 4 August 1703, she held office until her death, which occurred on 31 May 1741. The first notes about the donated things appeared in the registry on 1 August 1712, and it was almost entirely supplemented during the life of Zofia Grothówna. Only one, the last note was entered on 23 April 1742, during the reign of abbess Katarzyna Bąkowska and it concerns a chasuble given to the convent by her. There were a number of donors who supported the convent in Imbramowice in those difficult times. Among the donors there were both clergy and laymen. Abbess Zofia Grothówna was the one who gave the most things. In addition, Rev. Dominik Lochman donated a great number of valuable things. The information on donations are written in a very explicit way in the registry, which includes the information on the items handed over to the convent as well as the identity of individual donors. The registry information is arranged according to the time of its transfer to the convent. The objects listed in the registry are accompanied by a brief description, including the material which they were made of and the names of the donors.

Opis:: Religious museums, owned by different denominations, began to emerge in the first half of the nineteenth century. The museums of the Roman Catholic Church are the most numerous ones in this group. Regulations governing the activities of these institutions were included in the Code of Canon Law of 1918 and in the "Papal Directives concerning Church Art" of 1924. This issue was also regulated by a concordat of 1925 between the Republic of Poland and the Holy See. The latest directive is a circular letter of 2001 on Pastoral function of church museums. Nowadays, a number of religious museums have been created. An important issue is the permanent funding of museums. Another issue is the process of educating future priests in art history, or training church managers in the protection of cultural property. The outlined problems related to church museology indicate various tasks undertaken in this field - at every stage a different one. These tasks are closely connected with the targets set by the organizers and managers of cultural goods.

Opis:: On 31 May 1741 Zofia Grothówna, the abbess of the convent in Imbramowice, died. She was chosen for this function on 4 August 1703, and remained in office for 38 years. Zofia Grothówna contributed- along with the Bishop of Cracow, Kazimierz Łubieński and the Commissioner of the convent, canon Dominik Lochman- to rebuilding the convent after the great fire, which took place in 1710. Thanks to her efforts, the convent and the church were equipped with the necessary movables, including liturgical equipment. The chronicle of the convent, which was begun during her life, contains the information on how to acquire individual paraments and sacred vessels. Shortly after the death of abbess Grothówna, the registry was made. It was entitled The described registry of all the equipment, silver, relics, which are located at the Church in Imbramowice after the death of the late Mother, our Benefactress, Zofia Grothówna, the abbess of Imbramowice, 26 June, 1741. Comparing it to the notes in the chronicles, we have a full picture of movables in the church. Over time, new objects, acquired between 1744 and 1752, were added to it.
