Opis:: The results of previous research on antigenic (allotypic) specificities of immunoglobulins, alpha-globulins, beta-globulins and lipoproteins in cattle are reviewed. The suitability of heteroantibodies and alloantibodies for identification of this type of markers was analysed. New names/symbols of antigenic markers of proteins in cattle, identified at the Department of Immuno- and Cytogenetics of the National Research Institute of Animal Production (Balice/Kraków, Poland), were introduced.

Opis:: The transmission of previously described genes A2MD1 and A2ME2 that determine antigenic markers of alpha₂-macroglobulins A₂mD1 and А₂mЕ2 in cattle was studied. The starting point for the analyses was the lack of individuals negative for both markers in the population of 3551 Black-and-White, Red-and-White, Polish Red and Simmental cattle and interbreed crosses. Controlling of these specificities by allelic genes or genes from closely linked loci was considered. To support or reject this hypothesis, the independence test 2 x 2 and analysis of segregation of A₂mD1 and А₂mЕ2 in the offsprings of all phenotypic matings found and of selected matings in which genotypes of sires were determined, were used. It was found that the observed segregation of antigenic markers in the offsprings rules out the possibility that they are determined by allelic genes. The results obtained show that markers A₂mD1 and А₂mЕ2 are controlled by the genes A2MD1 and A2ME2 from closely linked loci. Moreover it seems that only those haplotypes are transmitted in which both genes - A2MD1 and A2ME2, or one of them - A2MD1 or A2ME2, are present. No haplotypc would then be transmitted (would occur?) in which both genes are in the recessive form. recessive form.

Opis:: Alloantibodies detecting antigenic determinants called BgC1 and AmiF1 were obtained in cattle. The analysis of determinants' inheritance was done on 1754 offsprings after 72 sires and 1740 dams. The molecule-carriers of both traits were characterized using serological and physico-chemical methods. It was found that the identified determinants are markers of beta-globulin and alpha-microglobulin proteins, and of autosomal, dominant genes BgC1 and AmiF1 from independent loci, which control them.

Opis:: The effect of transferrin genotypes and genes and globulin antigens on sheep resistance/susceptibility to mastitis was analysed. The udder health condition was diagnosed on the basis of the somatic cell count in 1 ml of milk and results of bacteriological tests. It was found that sheep with the transferrin genotype AC, AD and CC were characterised by a better health of the mammary gland than the remaining ewes. Among 9 transferrin alleles observed in the examined sheep, only the presence of transferrin I allele in the ewes genotype was connected with the somatic cell count below the mean value of this trait. The presence of transferrin A allele in the sheep's genotype was connected with a small infection of milk with mastitis pathogens. The serum globulin antigens analysed did not significantly affect the somatic cell count in the milk of the examined ewes. However, the antigens A2, NS1 (antigens of ß-globulin) and GB2 (antigen of class IgG immunoglobulins) as well as the globulin antigen A6 and GA1 antigen of class IgG immunoglobulins showed to have a significant effect on the level of sheep milk infection.

Opis:: Osady denne stanowią istotny składnik środowiska wodnego, akumulując składniki mineralne, w tym metale ciężkie. Zbiornik Dobczycki, będąc rezerwuarem wody pitnej dla aglomeracji krakowskiej, spełnia bardzo ważną funkcję gospodarczą. W badaniach osadów dennych Zbiornika Dobczyckiego wykonano analizę wierzchniej ich warstwy w 17 punktach pomiarowych. Pozwoliło to na opisanie dystrybucji metali w czaszy zbiornika oraz ocenę czynników warunkujących tę dystrybucję. Analizę wykonano dwoma metodami: metodą atomowej spektrometrii absorpcyjnej oraz metodą PIXE. Stwierdzono, z wykorzystaniem narzędzi statystycznych, że ze względu na stężenie metali, punkty poboru próbek można podzielić na dwie grupy: leżące poza dawnym nurtem rzeki Raby (niższe stężenia metali ciężkich) oraz usytuowane w dawnym nurcie rzeki (wyższe stężenia). Odpowiada to zmieniającym się właściwościom sorpcyjnym osadów, zależnym m.in. od uziarnienia, składu chemicznego i mineralnego oraz zawartości materii organicznej. Zastosowanie metody PIXE umożliwiło wykonanie wielopierwiastkowej analizy składu bez wstępnej procedury przygotowania próbek, z wystarczającą czułością oznaczeń, lecz mniejszą precyzją niż metoda ASA. Metody te mogą być komplementarne z punktu widzenia potrzeb analiz środowiskowych.
Sediments constitute important part of water systems, accumulating mineral compounds, such as heavy metals. Dobczyce Reservoir, being the main drinking water source for the city of Krakow, is important from the economical point of view. In the present research, analysis of elemental composition of sediment samples (upper 10 cm layer) in 17 sampling points was performed. It enabled us to analyse distribution of analysis of elements in Dobczyce Reservoir and to assess what factors influenced that distribution. The analysis was carried out by means of two instrumental methods, namely PIXE and ASA. Based on the statistical analysis of the results, it was found that all the sampling points could be divided into two groups – one situated out of the Raba river current (characterized by lower concentration of elements) and the other along the river current (higher concentration of elements). Such a division results from the differences in chemical and mineralogical composition of sediments as well as from their organic matter content and physical properties. The use of PIXE method makes it possible to analyze sediments in a multielemental mode without sample pretreatment, obtaining satisfactory sensitivity but less precision than with the use of AAS method. Both methods could be considered as complementary in environmental analysis.
