Opis:
Simple flooding algorithms are widely used in ad hoc sensor networks either for information dissemination or as building blocks of more sophisticated routing protocols. In this paper a percolation driven probabilistic flooding algorithm is proposed, which provides large message delivery ratio with small number of sent messages, compared to traditional flooding. To control the number of sent messages the proposed algorithm uses locally available information only, thus induces negligible overhead on network traffic. The performance of the algorithm is analyzed and the theoretical results are verified through simulation examples.

Surveys of oats in the UK and Nordic countries have identified high concentrations of HT-2 and T-2 can occur in unprocessed oats. HT-2 and T-2 are two closely related type A trichothecenes and two of the most toxic fusarium mycotoxins. There is currently no legislation on HT-2 and T-2, however, there is a discussion limit of 500 µg kg-1 in unprocessed oats. A previous survey identified that variety, previous crop, cultivation, fungicide use and some other factor(s) within organic oat production, which was not within the model, were all significant agronomic factors in the determination of HT-2 and T-2 concentrations of UK oats. Possible agronomy within conventional compared to organic agriculture would include the use of inorganic fertilisers and plant growth regulators (PGR). Oats harvested from two series of agronomic field experiments were analysed for the combined concentration of HT-2 and T-2 (HT2+T2) using ELISA. Experiments were repeated for both winter and spring varieties over two years. The first experiments were of a factorial design with three varieties, three nitrogen rates and plus/minus a PGR (chlormequat). The second series had twelve fungicide regimes. The results identified that there were no significant differences in HT-2+T-2 between samples from oat plots that received different rates of inorganic nitrogen, a PGR, or a range of different fungicide regimes. Fusarium langsethiae has been identified as the primary producer of HT-2 and T-2 in European cereals. HT-2 and T-2 are considered as two of the most potent trichothecenes mycotoxins and a public health concern in Europe. There is currently no legislation on HT-2 and T-2, however, there is a discussion limit of 500 µg kg -1  in unprocessed oats, 200 µg kg-1 for oat products and 50 µg kg-1 for infant food. There are limited data regarding F. langsethiae’s pathogenicity and mycotoxin production, but it is evident that its behaviour deviates from traditional trichothecene-producing Fusarium species. This experiment was aimed at assessing the aggressiveness (measured by lesion length) of 20 different F. langsethiae isolates on wheat, barley and oats using an in vitro detached leaf assay. There was a significant (P<0.001) difference between lesion lengths formed by different F. langsethiae isolates used. Isolate Fl/2004/17(a) caused the shortest lesion on all cereals and this was significantly (P<0.001) different from that caused by isolate Fl/0/08/009/1 which caused the longest lesion on all cereals used. A highly significant difference (P<0.001) was also observed between lesions on the different cereals (wheat, barley and oats). Lesions on oats were the longest, followed by barley with wheat showing the shortest lesions.

The aim of this study is to investigate the adherence properties of acrylic cement based on PMMA to alumina ceramics. These ceramics are suitable for orthopedic and dental applications, as bioinert components in prosthetic surgery. The surface of alumina specimens were subjected to a special treatment based on acid etched followed by two different fluoride treatments: $SnF_2$ and $NaBF_4$, respectively. The structural properties of $Al_2O_3$ specimens were investigated before any treatments by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The modification occurred after the chemical treatment was investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The adherence of commercial acrylic cement to both treated alumina specimens was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy upon transversal cutting of the specimens. The results demonstrated that $SnF_2$ is more favorable with respect to adhesion of PMMA based orthopedic cements.

The scope of the research work is the production and characterization of Al matrix composites reinforced with WC ceramic nanoparticles. The synthesis process was powder metallurgy. The produced composites were examined as far as their microstructure and mechanical properties (resistance to wear, micro/macrohardness). Intermetallic phases (Al12W and Al2Cu) were identified in the microstrucutre. Al4C3 was not detected in the composites. Adding more than 5 wt% WC to the aluminum, microhardness and wear resistance exceed the values of Al alloy. Composites having weak interface bond performed the highest wear rate.

Aluminum matrix composites were prepared by adding submicron sized WC particles into a melt of Al 1050 under mechanical stirring, with the scope to determine: (a) the most appropriate salt flux amongst KBF4 , K2 TiF6 , K3 AlF6 and Na3 AlF6 for optimum particle wetting and distribution and (b) the maximum carbide volume fraction (CVF) for optimum response to sliding wear. The nature of the wetting agent notably affected particle incorporation, with K2 TiF6 providing the greatest particle insertion. A uniform aluminide (in-situ) and WC (ex-situ) particle distribution was attained. Two different sliding wear mechanisms were identified for low CVFs (≤1.5%), and high CVFs (2.0%), depending on the extent of particle agglomeration.

Great economic losses to the dairy industry are associated with bovine mastitis, which results in poor milk quality and high treatment costs. Anti-inflammatory proteins play an important role in the suppression of the immune response against invading pathogenic microorganisms and are therefore being studied for possible use in the early diagnosis of mastitis. In our study, we used milk samples from 15 cows of Holstein Friesian breed with different health status (5 healthy, 5 subclinical, and 5 clinical animals), and tested them using immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis to evaluate the presence of IL-2, IL-10, TGF-β1, βDEF-2, DEF-3, and Cathelicidin LL37 proteins. The calculation of positively and negatively stained cells for each biomarker was performed using the semiquantitative counting method. We found the presence of all factors with the exception of Cathelicidin LL37, which was almost absent in milk samples of all animal groups. The significant decrease of IL-10, β-def2, and β-def3 expression levels within the 3 days of sampling, found in the milk of animals with sub- and clinical mastitis, indicates the loss of antiinflammatory protection of the affected cow’s udder. In contrast, the stable increase of IL-2 and TGF-β1 positive cells observed in the milk of mastitis-affected cows, and the similar expression of these factors in the milk of healthy animals, indicate the possible lack of involvement of these cytokines at an early stage of udder inflammation.

The influence of Au nanoparticles dimension on the photocatalytic performances of the $TiO_2$ aerogels-Au composites was evaluated. Structural and morphological peculiarities of the $TiO_2$ aerogel, unloaded and loaded with 5 and 22 nm Au nanoparticles, were studied by transmission electron microscopy technique, X-ray diffraction and $N_2$-sorption measurements. UV-Vis diffuse reflectance measurements were performed to determine the band gap energies. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by monitoring the salicylic acid photodegradation. It was found that the Au nanoparticles promote the anatase phase crystallization and produce the decrease of the specific surface area and band gap energy values. The porous composite with the smallest Au nanoparticles dimension exhibits the best photocatalytic performances.

Introduction. The fifth edition of the Transatlantic Orthopedic Surgery Webinar 2023 occurred on December 4, 2023. The webinar’s main topic was treating equino-plano-valgus foot in children with cerebral palsy (CP). The event included speakers from Austria, Australia, China, India, Canada, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Turkey, the USA and the UK. Results. The first general session presented epidemiology, biomechanics, muscle function, equino-plano-valgus foot prevention options, and the Silverskiöld test in clinical assessment. It also discussed the principles of deformation treatment, options for orthotic treatment, and pathology treatment in adults suffering from CP. The surgical sessions presented comprehensive surgical techniques for the treatment of clubfoot equinus: sliding calcaneal osteotomy, lateral column lengthening with talonavicular arthrodesis, use of an expandable cage for the lateral column lengthening, double arthrodesis with the transfer of the peroneal muscles, percutaneous soft tissue release with/without arthroereisis, lateral column lengthening with arthroereisis, Grice procedure with talonavicular arthrodesis, lateral column lengthening with medial cuneiform bone plantarflexion osteotomy, lateral column lengthening with duplication of the talonavicular capsule, talonavicular and calcaneocuboid arthrodesis, transfer of the tibialis anterior muscle to the peroneal tertius muscle. The second general session presented methods of assessing the results of clubfoot treatment and postoperative rehabilitation protocols involving upright positioning and walking. Conclusion. The most important conclusions from the event are: clinical assessment and understanding the pathophysiology of the defect is crucial for its proper treatment; non-surgical treatment is recommended under the age of 6; between the ages of 6 and 14, surgical methods that preserve joint function predominate; after the age of 14 a large percentage of patients require performing joint arthrodesis. Nevertheless, arthrodesis should be avoided to correct flexible deformities and to treat patients with high functional requirements. The webinar audience included 583 people from 50 countries. Most participants came from Poland, Spain, Turkey, and Great Britain.
Wstęp. Piąta edycja Transatlantic Orthopedic Surgery Webinar 2023 miała miejsce 4 grudnia 2023 roku. Tematem przewodnim webinarium było leczenie stóp końsko-płasko-koślawych u dzieci z mózgowym porażeniem dziecięcym (mpd). W wydarzeniu brali udział prelegenci z Austrii, Australii, Chin, Indii, Kanady, Niemiec, Polski, Szwecji, Turcji, USA i Wielkiej Brytanii. Wyniki. W pierwszej sesji ogólnej przedstawiono epidemiologię, biomechanikę, funkcję mięśni oraz zasady zapobiegania stopie końsko-płasko-koślawej, zastosowanie testu Silverskiöld w ocenie klinicznej. Omówiono również zasady leczenia deformacji, opcje zaopatrzenia ortotycznego oraz zasady leczenia patologii u osób dorosłych chorujących na mpd. W sesjach chirurgicznych przedstawiono kompleksowo techniki operacyjne leczenia stopy końsko-płasko-koślawej: osteotomię medializującą guz piętowy, osteotomię wydłużającą boczny brzeg stopy z artrodezą skokowo-łódkowatą, wykorzystanie rozszerzalnych implantów (cage) do wydłużenie bocznego brzegu stopy, podwójną artrodezę z przeniesieniem mięśni strzałkowych, przezskórną miofasciotomię z/bez artroerezy, wydłużenie bocznego brzegu stopy z artroerezą, procedurę wg Grice’a z artrodezą skokowo-łódkową, wydłużenie bocznego brzegu stopy z osteotomią kości klinowatej przyśrodkowej wg Cottona, wydłużenie bocznego brzegu stopy z duplikaturą stawu skokowo-łódkowego, artrodezę skokowo-łódkowatą oraz piętowo-sześcienną, transfer mięśnia piszczelowego przedniego na mięsień strzałkowy trzeci. W drugiej sesji ogólnej przedstawiono sposoby oceny wyników leczenia stopy końsko-płasko-koślawej oraz protokoły rehabilitacji pooperacyjnej zakładające pionizację i chodzenie. Wnioski. Najważniejsze wnioski płynące z wydarzenia to: ocena kliniczna oraz zrozumienie patofizjologii wady jest kluczowe dla jej prawidłowego leczenia, poniżej 6. roku życia rekomenduje się leczenie nieoperacyjne, pomiędzy 6. a 14. rokiem życia przeważają metody chirurgiczne oszczędzające funkcję stawów, po 14. roku życia duża grupa pacjentów wymaga wykonania artrodez stawów, jednak powinno się ich unikać w korektywnych deformacjach oraz u pacjentów z wysokimi wymaganiami funkcjonalnymi. Audytorium webinarium liczyło 583 osoby z 50 krajów. Największa liczba uczestników pochodziła z Polski, Hiszpanii, Turcji i Wielkiej Brytanii.

In part 1 of this work we discussed the possibilities for the selection of a GSSP for the Berriasian Stage of the Cretaceous System, based on prevailing practical methods for correlation in that J/K interval, traditional usage and the consensus over the best boundary markers that had developed in the last forty years. This consensus has developed further, based on the results of multidisciplinary studies on numerous sites over the last decade. Here in Part 2 we give an account of the application of those results by the Berriasian Working Group (ISCS), and present the stratigraphic evidence that justifies the selection of the locality of Tré Maroua (Hautes-Alpes, SE France) as the proposed GSSP. We describe a 45 m-thick section in the Calcaires Blancs vocontiens – that part of the formation covering the calpionellid Chitinoidella, Remanei. Intermedia, Colomi, Alpina, Ferasini, Elliptica and Simplex biozones. The stratigraphic data collected here has been compiled as part of a wider comparative study of complementary Vocontian Basin sites (with localities at Charens, St Bertrand, Belvedere and Le Chouet). Evidence from Tré Maroua thus sits in this substantial regional biostratigraphic and magnetostratigraphic context. For the purposes of the GSSP definition, here we particularly concentrate on the unbroken sequence and biotic markers in the interval immediately below the boundary, the Colomi Subzone (covering circa 675,000 years), and immediately above, the Alpina Subzone (covering circa 725,000 years). Particularly significant fossil datums identified in the Tré Maroua profile are the primary basal Berriasian marker, the base of the Alpina Subzone (a widespread event marked by dominance of small Calpionella alpina, with rare Crassicollaria parvula and Tintinopsella carpathica): the base of the Berriasian Stage is placed at the base of bed 14, which coincides with the base of the Alpina Subzone. Secondary markers bracketing the base of the Calpionella Zone are the FOs of the calcareous nannofossil species Nannoconus wintereri, close below the boundary, and the FO of Nannoconus steinmannii minor, close above. The Tithonian/Berriasian boundary level occurs within M19n.2n, in common with many documented sites, and is just below the distinctive reversed magnetic subzone M19n.1r (the so-called Brodno reversal). We present data which is congruent with magnetostratigraphic and biostratigraphic data from other key localities in France and in wider regions (Le Chouet, Saint Bertrand, Puerto Escaño, Rio Argos, Bosso, Brodno, Kurovice, Theodosia…), and thus the characteristics and datums identified at Tré Maroua are key for correlation and, in general, they typify the J/K boundary interval in Tethys and connected seas
