Opis:
Exposure to indoor allergens, especially dust mites has been recognized as a risk factor for sensitization and allergy symptoms that in extreme conditions could develop into asthma. To determine specific antigens responsible for allergy in patients positive for mite allergy skin tests whole protein extracts from the cultured mite species Tyrophagus putrescentiae [TP], and from their excrements were obtained. The proteins were fractionated by SDS PAGE and identified by Western blot. The patient antibodies against particular antigens were identified in serum IgE fraction using anti-human anti-IgE monoclonal antibody. Western blot analysis revealed differences in reactivity of sera from patients positive for standard mite allergy skin tests with fractionated mite antigens. A total of 17 of 30 sera (56.7%) from patients positive to skin tests showed specific cross reactivity with antigens isolated from extracts of TP. The results revealed that 12 out of 30 tested sera (40.0%) reacted specifically with new antigens identified as protein fractions of extracts from excrements of TP. When assessing mite allergen reaction using mixture of mite proteins the results of the test are not satisfactory for determining the antigen causing patient allergy. The results obtained from studies reported here indicate significant discrepancy between the so called standard allergy skin test and what the patient is actually sensitive to. Also, a new class of immunizing protein of about 25 kDa has been identified in excrements from TP reacting with IgE from patients showing allergy to other mite extracts. A total of 4 of 30 sera (approx. 13.3%) from patients positive to skin tests showed specific cross reactivity with antigens isolated from mite excrements rather than from mite whole extracts.

Opis:
Electrospinning is a simple and universal way to produce fibres from a variety of materials having diameters ranging from submicrometers to nanometers. Such fibres can be formed from resorbable and non-resorbable polymers, ceramics and their different combinations containing nanoparticles. Such a method has gained a great interest in medicine due to its ability to form a fibrous space architecture, similar to the natural extracellular matrix [1,2]. On the other hand, due to a wide range of technical facilities of electrospun fibers the method allows to create directionally-dependent space architecture of nanofibres which mimic natural tissues [3]. Considering the similarities between the microstructure created by nanofibres and the extracellular matrix, nanofibrous materials made by ES technique seem to be promising scaffolds to regenerate cartilage [4] and neural tissue [5]. A material which is used for cartilage scaffolds should mimic native cartilage, which is known to have an oriented structure associated with its mechanical and physiological functions [5]. Scaffold with a biomimetic-oriented architecture is an important requirement for tissue-engineered cartilage. In this study, PLA oriented and non-oriented fibrous scaffolds were manufactured. Selected properties of the materials were analysed and dissussed in view of the manufacture of optimal structure for cartilage tissue engineering.

Opis:
The aim of the studies was to determine and compare the temperature parameters as well as the organisms radiation power calculated with use of the Stefan-Boltzman law with the standard parameters calculated by apparatus normally used during efficiency tests. All the studies were made by a thermovision camera Flir Systems A40 (temperature sensitivity was 0,07K). The group of subjects was tested in the Sports Diagnostic Center, Diagnostics, in Wisła. The results of the studies showed almost full correlation between the mean radiation power loss of organism calculated with the Stefan-Boltzman law and the mean power set on the controller of ergometer. Moreover, other very important parameter called the coefficient of respiratory exchange was described by almost full correlation coefficient with the mean power loss from organism during training. Other temperature parameters were also highly correlated with the parameters obtained from the ergometer controller. It seems that thermovision may be a useful tool in sportsmen efficiency evaluation. Maybe, it could be possible to use this technique as a complementary or even as a substitution of some standard methods used in planning of training cycle. However, the conclusion must be drawn very carefully due to the small statistic group of volunteers.
