    The article attempts to decide whether the sports report is more about the information or the commentary. On the basis of an analysis of press material, the author examines different characteristics of the genre and tries to determine their compatibility with the news canon. As the analysis shows, the contemporary sports report is less about news and more about commentary, interpretation and evaluation. Journalists tend to summarize the competition and briefly describe the course of events. It makes the sports report similar to press comment and review.

    Opis:
    Online live commentary, in many ways, is similar to live TV coverage and radio broadcasts. But, as Jan Chovanec noticed, it also differentiates itself from traditional transmissions. One of the differences is the sender-reader relation. The aim of the article is to characterise this relation. As the analysis reveals, the distance between the aforementioned participants of communication is relatively smaller than in traditional media (TV and radio). This is most noticeable in the use of the first person pluralis, in the form of the inclusive WE and of direct address to the reader. The initial and final components of the text show signs of the desire to establish a kind of bond with recipients and, in the longer perspective, a lasting relationship. Another distinctive attribute of live online commentary is its interactivity. Readers can comment on the competition, cite other fans from social media, take part in contests and quizzes, rate the commentary and events on the sports field. The commentary thus becomes a polyphonous message, in which the distinctions between media sender nad recipients becomes blurred.
    Internetowa relacja sportowa „na żywo” pod wieloma względami przypomina transmisje telewizyjne i radiowe. Nieco inaczej jednak rysuje się w jej przypadku sytuacja nadawczo-odbiorcza. Jak zauważył Jan Chovanec, warstwa ideacyjna relacji sportowej stopniowo usuwana jest na dalszy plan, dominantą funkcjonalną staje się zaś interakcja między nadawcą a odbiorcami. Celem niniejszego badania było scharakteryzowanie sytuacji nadawczo-odbiorczej w internetowych relacjach sportowych „na żywo”. Jak wykazała analiza materiału badawczego, dystans między autorem a czytelnikami jest znacznie mniejszy niż w tradycyjnych mediach. Przejawia się to m.in. w dużej frekwencji form pierwszej osoby liczby mnogiej w funkcji „MY” inkluzywnego oraz bezpośrednich zwrotach do odbiorców. Komponenty inicjalne i finalne zarysowują wyraźnie dążenie do zbudowania więzi – funkcję taką spełniają zwłaszcza liczne podziękowania za wspólnie spędzony czas oraz zachęty do śledzenia kolejnych relacji. Cechą odróżniającą relacje internetowe od transmisji telewizyjnych i radiowych jest większa interaktywność. Przejawia się ona w możliwości komentowania zawodów przez czytelników, cytowaniu wpisów kibiców z mediów społecznościowych, konkursach, quizach, przyciskach pozwalających ocenić dany fragment wydarzenia lub samej relacji. Staje się ona zatem wypowiedzią wielogłosową, w której momentami zaciera się granica między nadawcą medialnym a odbiorcami (sami mogą stać się nadawcami).

    The article describes main forms of socialist propaganda in polish sports press of the 1950’s decade. As the analysis shows, sports magazines, despite their apparent thematic distance from political issues, had become tools of social impact. The main force of influence was concentrated in texts created typically for propaganda purposes, but also texts devoted to sports competitions (i.e. reports) contained political components. The most important manifestations of propaganda in the sports press were the mixing of sport with politics, promoting Soviet training and tactical patterns, over-emphasizing successes, informing about the socialist commitments made by athletes on public holidays, as well as criticizing social and political conditions in capitalist countries.
    Artykuł opisuje najważniejsze postaci propagandy socjalistycznej występujące w polskiej prasie sportowej lat 1950–1959. Jak wynika z analizy materiału badawczego, pisma sportowe, mimo pozornej odległości tematycznej od kwestii politycznych, stały się narzędziami wpływu na społeczeństwo. Główna siła oddziaływania skupiała się w tekstach powstających typowo w celach propagandowych, jednak również wypowiedzi poświęcone samym zawodom sportowym (np. sprawozdania) zawierały elementy polityczne. Najważniejszymi przejawami propagandy w prasie sportowej były mieszanie sportu z polityką, promowanie radzieckich wzorów szkoleniowych i taktycznych, nadmierne podkreślanie sukcesów, informowanie o zobowiązaniach podejmowanych przez sportowców z okazji świąt państwowych oraz krytykowanie warunków społeczno-politycznych w krajach kapitalistycznych.

    The article aims to prove the thesis about the unidirectional nature of metaphor and to indicate a possible explanation for this principle. The main argument in favour of the considered claim is the irreversibility of metaphor. There is only one direction in which a metaphor can function and in reverse it becomes difficult or even impossible for the receiver to interpret. The thesis is validated based on examples from Polish sports press. The article also brings up the relation between metaphor and similarity. As was proven, metaphors are based on a previously perceived (but not necessarily objective) similarity between objects. Thus they inherit the direction of this similarity. (As Amos Tversky claimed in his works, perceiving of similarity between objects is not symmetrical, it is always directed in some way). The asymmetry of similarity relation, as borne out in the article, can be recognised as the main reason of the unidirectional nature of metaphor.

    The article aims to demonstrate the way in which juxtaposition-comparison (as defined by Andrzej Kudra as a basic mental figure) is used by journalists for persuasive purposes. An analysis of selected examples reveals that various forms of juxtapositions are used by serial writers (comparisons of Poland with other countries, gradual confrontations, ridiculing and revealing absurdities through juxtapositions, comparisons of a current situation with the past, juxtapositions emphasizing people’s defects or advantages). In each case, the authors make use of the imagery qualities of juxtapositions, their ability to transfer axiological valuation from comparans to comparandum, as well as their ability to profile features through comparison.

    The article characterizes the football match reports published in Sports Review in 1921. An analysis of the material collected reveals a number of characteristics in the interwar text, i.e., limited imagery, concreteness/discursive juxtaposition, the use of the present tense in describing the game, open (sometimes expressive) evaluation of the individual players’ performance and the teams’ abilities, as well as a missionary style of reporting, in which the journalist takes up universal issues regarding football, sports and physical culture. The analysis outlines the differences between old-time and contemporary realizations of the genre.

    The article describes juxtaposition as a tool of argumentatio, used by sports journalists. As a powerful means of persuasion, juxtaposition can play different roles in a text. Sports journalists use juxtaposition to strengthen their arguments. As the research shows, it can form a part of various types of argument: ethical, pathetic (referring to the reader’s emotions), logical and referring to modality and value judgments. Juxtaposition can also be a part of the elocutio, thus improving the effectiveness of arguments. In some examples it also plays the role of the connector between the argumentatio and refutatio.

Książka ujawnia walory języka radiowo-telewizyjnych komentatorów sportowych, takie jak barwność, oryginalność sformułowań, silną indywidualizację, kreatywność, emocjonalność.
